HT3258 migration problem mac to mac

i'm having a very strange problem migrating data from my macbook pro (10.6.8) to my new macbook air (10.7.5). i've been in touch with a supervisor level guy at apple support and he doesn't know what the problem could be.
i keep some folders on the grey side bar of the finder for easy access. when i do the migration (i've tried both wireless and with an external hard drive) some of those folders show up with no content and no ability to even click on them.
when i checked back with the pro i saw that some of those folders had had their contents moved to the trash (i didn't do that!). so i moved the content back, created new folders and trashed some of the non-functioning folders.
then i did another migrate and some of the new folders from the pro didn't show up at all and i still had the problem folders that i couldn't click on.
i can't even get rid of these zombie folders on the air because they can't be found in any of my regular data and they can't be dragged from the sidebar.
any thoughts?

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know about being in SetUp Assistant on the first boot and I don't know how to do that. It's interesting that the Apple support staff never mentioned this as I was working with them.
And yes, the Air does now have multiple users....sigh...the apple support guy told me that was an inevitable result of migrating.
I've been trying just now to access the newest user account but i'm having trouble doing so. i unlocked the users and groups and click on the account i want to open (the password is there and adminstration box checked) but nothing happens. I've checked Can you advise?

I've Just migrated my mac to a new iMac and CS5 is dead, I can't uninstall it or do anything with it. When I try to load an application it just crashes (I'm guessing because it needs registering on my new machine) and I can't uninstall it.
I've been using CS5 for the past three years, and contemplating getting Creative Cloud. The problem is, it looks like I didn't every properly register CS5 with my Adobe ID, the software package was a download from a thrid party seller, and the email account the sent all the registration info to is no longer in use. . .
When I try to use Application Manager to uninstall it just tells me I need application manager and gives me a link to Adobe's website to download it. I download it, install it, try again, same result, tells me I need to download it. . .
Frustrating.
Any help greatly appreciated, I'm currently completely stuck!

You can also install Windows (new activation copy) on your Mac and use Windows natively, or for 99.9% of running Office apps, run Windows as a guest VM is fine. The data can be opened and edited and exported back to native Office format and opened in OpenOffice and others, or in Pages and Numbers, though whether those are satisfactory solutions or not you'll have to decide.

How do I migrate one mac to another and have it look just like it did on the other machine on the one I migrated it to?

I need to migrate a mac to another and have kept my backups current with timemachine. I connected the HD with the time machine back ups to the machine I'm migrateing to and used the migratiation assastiant but now i have 2 accounts and no permissions to access the account I migrated. I just imagined I would use the migration assastiant and afterwards I'd be looking at the mac I transfered/migrated. What did I do wrong or how can I achieve the desired effect?

What do you mean by this? Have you tried to login to these accounts?
If you come up automatically to an account, you can log off this account then login to a new account.

Here are some options:
• You could copy the data file to your laptop, work on it, and update the file on the iMac when you are back.
• You can use an application like Log Me In to access your home computer from your laptop.
• You can use DropBox. Install it on both computers, place your data file in a folder on the iMac, access it and work on it on your laptop and it will be automatically updated on your computer at home, even if it is not turned on, as soon as it is connected to the internet.

Migrating a Mac license of CS5 Master Collection to a PC

Hi all. I've got a box copy of the CS5 master collection and a Mac that is old and failing quickly. I was required to purchase this computer for college and it has seen much use. Macs are expensive and a new one is not something I have the funds to allocate to. I'm going to be building a PC tower (boo, I know ) because I can get the most bang for my buck that way, and as I am one of those "starving artists" I don't have multiple hundreds of dollars to spend on a new license on top of the money it will cost to build a new work computer for myself. The cloud stuff isn't really an option either.
But I digress, my question is whether it's possible to migrate a Mac license of the suite to a PC (removing the programs from the Mac in the process)?
Apologies if this has been asked already. I was not able to find an answer in my Googling or searching of the Adobe forum (just ones pertainting to PC to Mac migrations). Thanks.

Boxed versions of Adobe products usually comes with cross platform applications and serial numbers. This being the case, have you got the disks for windows in the box you bought? If so then yes it is possible to install it on your new machine with those disks and serial number.
You can deactivate the product from Apple Mac and install and activate on your new Pc. Please also note that you are allowed to install the product on two machines - laptop and a desktop but most people install it on two laptops or two desktops or laptop and a desktop.

Trying to migrate from Mac-mini Tiger to Mac-mini Lion and Migration Assistant cannot find my Firewire, 400 to 800, "T" disk although it shows up in the new Mac's computer folder. It seems that Mac-mini Tiger is as it should be and the firewire cable is OK. Something about the Migration Assistant is being missed, but I have no idea what it is.

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
IOFireWireAVC.kext
IOFireWireFamily.kext
IOFireWireIP.kext
IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

Ran Migrate to Mac and can't find my files

I just got a MacBook Pro and am coming over from the PC world. I ran the Migrate to Mac app and copied about 180GB of data from my PC to the MacBook (my Data Directory not in standard Microsoft folders). iTunes found the music files and Finder shows random other files, but the bulk of the data is "missing". I know it was copied because in the About This Mac storage graphic it shows 52 GB in photos and 89 GB in Other and only 50 GB free.
Without a File Manager, this old PC user is lost. :-(
How do I find the files and pics?

After trying the suggestions above with no luck I decided to call Apple Support. After 50 minutes on the phone with them the solution was to wipe the hard drive and start over from the factory settings, then redo the migration. Even though we could search for and find specific files, he couldn’t actually locate them on the hard drive to find the other files that were likely saved in the same place.
His explanation was that the Migration to Mac routine doesn’t always understand layered directory structures found on PCs. What the Migration Assistant is good at is taking files/docs from standard Windows folders (My Documents, Pictures, Music) and putting them in the same folders on the MacBook. If you have data elsewhere, like in a c:\data directory with a bunch of subfolders like in my case, the Migration wizard can get confused and not know where to put them.
So the advice for those that have data outside the Windows standard folders, assuming you have to start over like me, is take all the docs/pics/files you want to migrate over and put them in the Windows folders, then run the migration.

Migrate from mac mini mountain lion to mbp lion

Any suggestions on how to migrate a mac mini on mountain lion to a macbook pro on lion. Booting from time machine doesn't work because it only wants to restore to the original computer. Migration assistant doesn't show the backup drive as a source for the restore. Not sure how to proceed.

Let's backup, because when I said that earlier I thought you were leaving Lion on the MBP. So, you should be able to erase the drive in the MBP, then boot from the Time Machine backup. If you have 10.8.2 backed up, then there is an invisible copy of the Recovery HD. Connect the Time Machine backup drive to the MBP.
Boot Using OPTION key:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
4. Select the Recovery HD on the Time Machine backup drive.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Once it boots up you can use the main menu to first repartition and reformat the MBP's drive, then restore the Time Machine backup to the MBP.
Sort of sorry to go in such circle to get to this point, but I just did not understand the goal. Forgive my being so thick-headed today.

Photoshop/Elements to Revel Photo Migration Problem!

What happened to my Photoshop/element photos? They were supposedly migrated, but I don't see them! I have no albums in my Revel account.I had a paid subscriiption and it was cancelled back in or around February, and told that the photos would be moved over to REVEL...Can anyone help me to get them back?

First, thanks Pattie for following up with me. I am going to check my backed up hard drives to see if my photoshop materials are on them. It will take me a few days, as I have only small amounts of time to research it at this time. maybe a break will come in a day or two for a determination.

Is it possible you logged into Photoshop.com with a different email, or is it possible that you did not set up your Elements to sync with Photosho.com? These are the two main reasons users can not find their files.
The Photoshop.com account created in 2009 with the email you use to log in to this forum has no files in it, and therefore, nothing migrated to the Revel account with the same login. You do have a Revel account with the same login, but it is also empty since nothing migrated.

If u r getting this message for field FISCPER of ur data source,then map Fiscper to 0Fiscyear ,the system wil automatically convert it and the problem will be resolved. hope it will help u.

Mac Migration Problem

I bought a new macbook and migrated from my old one. I get a message that creative cloud is missing or damaged and I need to install a new creative cloud. When i launch the new download it tells me a problem exists and a new version is needed and sends me back to download another copy. Stuck in this loop.

Is this the message you are getting? "Adobe creative cloud is needed to resolve this problem. However, it is missing or damaged. Please download and install a new copy of the Creative Cloud from 'http://www.adobe.com/go/adobecreativecloudapp'."
The error message above means that the installation of the Creative Cloud Application was not successful. I would recommend uninstalling the application, manually removing the folders mentioned below and trying the installation procedure again.
WINDOWS :: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE & C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobeApplicationManager .
MAC : /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/OOBE & /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/AdobeApplicationManager.
