HT3275 Backup error w/ Time Capsule -- .sparsebundle could not be accessed (error -1)
I have been using Time Machine on a Time Capsule to back up my 2 MacBook Pros. Recently, the one running Lion started giving me this error: The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/<computername>.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).
Suggest that you see # C17 in Pondini's excellent support document.....Time Machine -- Troubleshooting.....for all the steps.

Time Machine, sparsebundle could not be accessed (error -1)
Hi there,
I keep getting the following message:
Time Machine could not complete the backup.
The backup disk image "/Volumes/ Time Cap Backup/iMac.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1)
Could anyone...PLEASE....tell me how to fix this. And what's the difference between error 119 and error -1
Thanks a million
Best regards,
Tonny (from The Netherlands)Hi
I had the same problem.
Then, because the problem happened each time I restarted my Imac, I tried to check the apps starting at login.
I went to system preferences - users - login items and I looked at some "apps starting automatically at login",
In my case I deleted "WD Macintosh + Turbo drivers" (an old version incompatible with 10.7.2) and I resolved the problem.
I hope I've been helpuf -
I am unable to complete a backup and I get this message The backup disk image “/Volumes/Ana M. Hernandez, DO's Time/Ana M. Hernandez, DO.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). I have tried to find help but I can't find it in the apple site. I'm not very techy at troubleshooting and don;t want to dlo anything that will worsen the problem without advice. Thank you.
Reboot the Time Capsule.. Lion has terrible networking issues with the TC and has simply forgotten where it is.
Check C17 for some other issues.. there is some other things that cause it. And you can do a disconnect all users if you have the right utility.

When trying to use my time machine got an error message "Time Machine could not complete the backup.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/ Time Capsul/ MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).
Any ideas?I have not found a long-term solution (fix), but in my case the volume where the Time Machine backup should occur usually is mounted on the desktop but not as a shared volume (incidated as a drive with the people holding hands superimposed over the drive icon). If I drag the drive to the trash (unmount it), the next time Time Machine is scheduled to run, it completes successfully.

I keep getting the message "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Donald Baker's Time Capsul/Donald Baker’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). does anyone know what this means? My time capsule refuses to back up.

My time capsule hasn't been working for months now. Finally got around to looking into the problem. Have tried looking on forums -- most solutions point to Pondini.org. I've tried #17, which is related to my specific error with no avail (including using Airport Utility 5.6 to disconnect all users).
I have also tried moving (instead of deleting) my old sparsebundle into a temporary folder on the Time Capsule to "hide it" to attempt to create a new sparsebundle: while I have managed to get Time Machine to create a new one (albeit after many, many attempts), once it creates a new one, it doesn't seem to say that anything has been backed-up AND it cannot seem to access the "new" sparsebundle, giving me the error: "The backup disk image “XYZ.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)."

For the past several days, I have been getting this message during backups:
Time Machine could not complete the back up. The backup disk image "Volumes/Data/bhoppy2's iMac.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error-1). When I click on the 'help' icon on the message, it reverts to a blank page, and I cannot find anything online regarding the term 'sparsebundle.' In addition, I cannot access previous backups any longer.

I got the error message that my Time Capsule "iMac.sparsebundle could not be accessed (error - 1). It backed up fine yesterday. Anyone else have this problem?
If it helps I am getting the same message, I have reported it to Apple and they have someone working on it. Mine stopped backing up after having a new hard drive installed. I can however back up to the same time capsule from my laptop.

While backing up to Time Machine, I receive this message: time machine error says: The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Apple ’s iMac G5.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That message is caused by several reasons. Read the Pondini's site to fix the problem > http://pondini.org/TM/C17.html -
Since upgrading my Macbook to Lion, the time machine backups are failing - error message: "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Jackie Scanlon's Time Caps/Jacqueline Drabczynska’s MacBook.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)." I have rebooted the TIme Capsule and it worked OK, but don't want to do that every time. Any suggestions? Thanks
Any new info on this?
I had the exact same problem and went crazy and spent a hecka lot of time trying to deal with my brand new 2TB Time Capsule and almost brand new MacBook Pro. Then I thought I fixed it...and I tried SO MANY things, I don't really know what did it...except taking out any apostrophe's in names of stuff that Apple puts in there...BUT...now it's back.

I recently obtained the 3 TB time capsule and after setting it up I have backed up using time machine and after a few days it gives this error. I erased the drive and started over but the same thing happened. I do not see the error message that I get listed in the articles. Any ideas?
Error message - The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Ence’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).The best "articles" by far are those provided by Time Capsule and Time Machine guru Pondini.
He's the guy that Apple calls when they can't figure things out.

I am getting a Time Machine backup error "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Extreme.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1)."
Then a Finder window pops up with the backup directory in it. When I open it I see all the backups that were completed successfully and then the one there is simply always shows the data and .inProgress. I thought that maybe if I could delete the one that is perpetually in progress it would start a new one and run fine, but I won't let me delete it.Reboot the TC.. or go to the 5.6 utility.. and disconnect all users.. to force it to reconnect.

Hi, I have backed up 2 IMACs and one Mac Book Pro but for some reason, the 3rd IMAC come up with this problem: The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Anthony’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1). Why? The computer system is up to date and I have had no issue with the other computers, just this one.
Many thanks
