HT3275 Can't restore from the most recent TM backup

I mistakenly permanently deleted a file from my Mac OSX disk. I then tried to retrieve it from the most recent backup on Time Machine. However, while it showed the backup from a few hours ago on the time scale on the right of the screen, I could not select it. When I click the restore button it takes me to a backup of a week ago.

15A How do I use the (not so intuitive) Time Machine display?
15.  How do I view or restore selected items?

You CAN run 10.7, but I don't advise it, buy the 10.6.3 upgrade disk from the Apple Store online and then backup files off the machine and upgrade to 10.6.3., then Software Update to 10.6.8 would be the BEST option for your older hardware and it will run most all of your 10.5 software and be faster than 10.5 or 10.7.
If you go to 10.7 it won't run nearly any of your 10.5 software and you will have to buy all new ones for a machine that's getting a little bit dated, near it's end of life stage. 10.7 will slow your machine down, especially with low RAM.

At your machines stage, the hard drive is getting old, the vents are clogged up with dust and it's going to cost a bit to get the drive etc upgraded. You can if you wish, but 10.7 really needs more RAM (4GB) and a faster hard drive.
But your still subjected to the video card going out etc.
IMO upgrade to 10.6.8 and stay there until the wheels fall off, then buy a new 10.8 machine being released after this summer or 10.9 machine.

  • How many times can you restore from the same backup?

how many times can you restore from the same backup?

As many times as you want till you delete or modify it.
It's YOUR backup, a copy of all your stuff.
Not some copyrighted, access controlled bunch of bytes representing a picture, a song or a movie, with a bunch of lawyers from the entertainment maff1a hellbent on restricting what you can do with it.

Apple TV sorts my photos only in ascending order, how can I change so the most recent EVENTS appear first?

I'm looking for an answer to this, too, since I have thousands of Events, and so scrolling down to the bottom every time I want to show my newest photos makes it almost unusable.

  • HT201269 i backed up my iphone to iTunes and then when i restored the back up info was not from the most recent backup, but from May!!! what can I do to get yesterdays data?1

i backed up my iphone to itunes and tried restoring the info on to a new iphone and for some reason it used an old back up from last may.  I know that the recent back up worked as I used it to set up another phone a week ago (a phone whihc also had problems and hence I needed to use that same back up again on my second new phone.  Is there anyway I can get the most recent back up information back?

    1. Create a backup of your iPad to iTunes on your computer or to iCloud
    2. Transfer any and all photos & videos on your iPad to your computer.
    3. Erase the iPad and restore the iPhone's iCloud backup to the device.
    4. Transfer any and all photos & videos on your iPad to your computer.
    5. Restore the iPad backup you reated in step #1 back to the iPad.

  • Can I import just the most recent photos from iPhoto

I want to import into the organizer just the most recent iPhoto ppictures. The problem is every time I want to import from iPhoto the system wants to import thousands of photos which I do not need. All I want are the last half-dozen or so shots that I took that's all.

There is the option to use iPhoto rather than Organizer with the PSE Editor application set up for external editing in the iPhoto preferences.
See the link below for further information and if using this option make sure you choose the application in Support Files (see image) and not an alias:

  • In transferring purchases most of my music got transferred apart from the most recent three albums. Now I don't have them on my ipod or on my itunes

I have transferred purchases before and have had no problems but this time when i tranfsferred to another computer the most recent albums didi not transfer. I only realised this once I had gone through the erase and sync. I did not have a backup for these three albums yet. My purchases clearly state that I have bought all those albums. I don't even understand why this happened!

On the newer computer launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.
For your albums, try here.   Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • After installinf ios6 I lost all contacts, I could not get them back so I hit restore. This restored the phone to 4 months back. The phone did not give me the option to restore from the cloud. is there anyway I can now restore from the cloud?

How many backups are in the cloud? When I installed ios6 it backed up to the cloud, since then I restored the phone trying to regain my contacts. At this point the used the last backup I performed on the computer 5 months ago. I never had the oppertunity to restore from the cloud. Is there anyway I can now restoe from the cloud and would it have the backup that was performed when I installed ios6?

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your phone.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your phone is new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • After resetting my IPad to factory settings, how can I reset to my most recent ICloud backup?

I have reset to factory setting on my IPad and would like to restore to my most recent backup setting on ICloud. How can I do this?  Do i need to delete everything before I see the Setup Assistant option?

Yes. You have to erase the device in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings.

  • I backed up my phone because I was upgrading hardware but when I went to "restore from backup" it wasn't listed in iTunes. I can see the files in a folder but not in iTunes.  Is there any way of backing up my phone from the most recent backup?

    Please help

The following says how to restore from backup.
    iOS: How to back up
If you go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices you can see if you have an iTunes backup. You need one dated before or the exact time you started the restore.

  • How can I use only the most recent data in an average?

I have a class which has regular listening quizzes.  If a student's average from the last three tests falls below 10 points (out of 20), then that student has to come in for extra practice.
My Sheets are set up with the students' names running down column A.  Test 1 is column B.  A a check box for whether students handed in the pre-listening homework is in column C.  The test and homework column pattern is continued for tests 1 through 20.
I then have an average for all the tests for that student further over to the right.
Next to the overall average, I would like to make a column with an average showing only the latest three test scores.  So, for example, the students have just finished test 10, the average of test 10, 9 and 8 would appear, but everything prior to that would be ignored.
I appreciate any suggestions on a formula for how I could make that happen.
    Thank you!

    CB,
Here's one approach. Note that I used Header Columns to make the programming easier. If you choose not to use Header Columns, you can adjust the formulas to account for the difference.
The formula in Overall Average is: =IFERROR(AVERAGE(2:2), 0) for Alice. Fill Down.
The formula in Last Three Scores average is: =IF(COUNT(2:2)<3, B, AVERAGE(OFFSET(D2, 0, (COUNT(2:2)-3)*2, 1, 6))) for Alice. Fill Down.
    Regards,

  • Partitioning the database from the most recent to the last partitioned

    Hi everyone
We have a huge database which is partitioned based on datetime column and for each month. The last partition that we have on it was for 12/1/2013. And since then we have accumulated data with millions of rows already till 3/1/2015.
We want to continue to add partitions for the next two years to it now.
Since splitting the last partition from 12/1/2013 to 1/1/2014 is pretty painful and then to split 1/1/2014 to 2/1/2014, We were thinking if there is a way to split from the back. Like add a partition for 2/1/2015 so that data for Feb only
goes there and the 1/1/2015 and then making our way back to 1/1/2014.
So far I have a script for going from 12/1/2013 to 1/1/2014 and the 1/1/2014 to 2/1/2014. Something like this
    ALTER
    PARTITION SCHEME MonthlyPartitionScheme
    NEXT
    USED [PRIMARY]
    GO
    ALTER
    PARTITION
    FUNCTION PartitionByMonth()
    SPLIT
    RANGE
    ('1/1/2014')
    Go
    ALTER
    PARTITION SCHEME MonthlyPartitionScheme
    NEXT
    USED [PRIMARY]
    GO
    ALTER
    PARTITION
    FUNCTION PartitionByMonth()
    SPLIT
    RANGE
    ('2/1/2014')
    Go
How can I change to make it work backwards from 2/1/2015 to 1/1/2015 and then 1/1/2015 to 12/1/2014 and so on. I am looking at more resources online, any help with this would be appreciated.
    Thanks much
    -Sarah

yes, i also think merge partition maybe can help you solve problem, you want to move some data to a new partition, so i also suggest you to use this one way, because splitting partition is time-consuming. Once i read one article, which can do this task,
    more information click here:
how to merge partitions. It seems some partition software can do this, some reviews like:  http://dottech.org/95676/windows-best-free-partition-and-disk-manager-review  among them, i used aomei partition assistant, its server version is supported
in server OS, maybe it is useful for you.You also can use another partition manager, merge partitions instead of splitting partition.

  • Can you restore from the hidden drive if Windows was written over?

    Hello all,
Looking for some help here... I friend brought  me his Lenovo 300 (N100) notebook that he said had a virus on it.  Instead of bringing it to me to fix the virus, he first tried reloading windows (xp) from a standard windows XP disk he had from his desktop machine.  The notebook now has Windows working, but of course it's a fresh install, and he lost all his other stuff.   He "said" he didn't allow the install to reformat the drive, just installed over the old one, so the factory hidden partition, so the old programs, etc are still there.
Is there a way to get into the hidden partition and re-install (restore) the original Windows factory setup from it?  I tried hitting F11 to bring up the recovery console, but I just get a similar window as you get from F8, and then it boots into the new windows.  Any other way to get a restored system?
He said he called Lenovo to try and get a recovery CD, but they said they don't sell recovery CD's to out of warranty products anymore - which is why he tried a standard Windows CD.  I looked up the Driver Downloads on the Lenovo website, and it looks like everything might be there for me to rebuild, if he's past getting a recovery from the partition.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello All,
Well, I guess I jumped the gun!  After I posted my question, I did some more searching and found the info for creating the Rescue & recovery diskette that allows you to re-enable the F11 option in order to access the rescue & recovery partition.
I was able to re-enable the F11, and am restoring the system as we speak.
    Thanks for being here!

  • Can SL restore from a Lion Time Machine backup?

I want to downgrade from Lion to SL.  If I do a fresh install of SL will it be able to read my Lion Time Machine backup to restore my applications and data?

To clarify any perceived inconsistency between my advice and that of sig's, my presumption was that you were going to do a complete restore from Time Machine.  If that's not the case, sig's advice is important.
