just brought a new macbook air and time capsule. time machine keep returning the above msg.
    can somebody help?

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back.

  • Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Time Capsule. The backup disk image /Volumes/Data/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle could not be created (error 60)"

We are Mountain Lion using Time Machine to backup to Time Capsule. When the backup tries to run, an error appears after a couple of minutes saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Then an error shows up saying "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "Time Capsule. The backup disk image /Volumes/Data/MacBook Pro.sparsebundle could not be created (error 60)"
I low level reformatted the Time Capsule and that didn't fix it. I then tried using Time Machine on another computer to back up to that same Time Capsule and it worked- so I'm doubting it's the Time Capsule.
I've noticed that when Time Machine runs, that a  folder called Data  at /Volumes/ appears while Time Machine is trying to back up. I think it's making the sparsebundle to transfer to the Time Capsule.
However, after a couple of minutes- it comes back saying that the disk is unreadable.
I think it's something wrong with either creating the sparsebundle or opening the disk image that seems to be a part of the Time Machine backup process on the local drive.
I am able to create a disk image with Disk Utilitiy without any problem on that system. I've repaired the disk and disk permissions with Disk Utility and replaced the directory with Disk Warrior. I've trashed what preference files I could find and restarted. I've completely removed the backup destination from the computer and added it back again.
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Neil

Yes, exactly.  It makes one sparse bundle per Mac.
It's possible the TC's disk is too full for a new sparse bundle, or there may be some other problem.
Via the Finder, locate the existing sparse bundle (see the pink box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #17 if you're not sure how to do that).  See how large it is (plus how large anything else that may be there).  If the total is very near the size of the TC, that may be the problem.
If not, a clue may be lurking in your logs.  Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs.  Locate the backup in question (probably the first one displayed), then copy and post all the messages here.

  • /Volumes/Data/my computer.sparsebundle could not be accessed (error-1)

Since upgrading to Lion I keep getting "Volumes/Data/my computer name.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1) message.  I will go into the airport utility, delete the backup and start over. It will work ok for a couple weeks and the message comes back.  I have the most recent firmware update in the timecapsule.  Is there an issue with my timecapsule itself, or do I need to upgrade to a larger one.  My current 1 is 1T, my mac's hard drive is roughly 75% full.

I checked the pondini fixes and ended up doing the following - in case this could help someone else with OSX Lion and Time Capsule... http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
First, I downloaded and used Airport Utility 5.6 instead of 6.1 - BTW, I had to attempt download and installation THREE times before the program actually installed.  Be persistant.
Pondini #5: It's possible some names (of all things!) may be a problem.    See item C9.  I had to re-name my Mac, Time Capsule, network, etc... to remove all apostrophes and spaces.
Pondini #7:  If you have WD SmartWare installed on Lion, it's not compatible, per RoaringApps, and there are reports it can cause this problem as well.   Use Western Digital's uninstaller, or delete the app from /Applications and the files com.wdc.WDDMservice.plist and com.wdc.WDSmartWareServer.plist from /Library/LaunchDaemons.   There may also be a file in Library/Application Support.
I then had to shut down computer, unplug Time Capsule, unplug modem; plug everything in again, then reboot computer; then had to go to Apple- System Preferences- Network- and reselect my Time Capsule to connect to WiFi again.
Then opened Time Machine preferences again and attempted back up - it worked!

i don't see a sparse bundle file by name per se anywhere.
Also what is new: as soon as time machine auto kicks off or I manual kick it of, it opens a new window which contains one folder (my backup fies from other days)  the files are "there", but I cannot successfully back up now?

  • I get an error mess when trying to complete backup "The backup disk image "/Volumes Time Capsul MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1).

When trying to use my time machine got an error message "Time Machine could not complete the backup.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/ Time Capsul/ MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).
    Any ideas?

I have not found a long-term solution (fix), but in my case the volume where the Time Machine backup should occur usually is mounted on the desktop but not as a shared volume (incidated as a drive with the people holding hands superimposed over the drive icon). If I drag the drive to the trash (unmount it), the next time Time Machine is scheduled to run, it completes successfully.

  • HT3546 MacBook Pro.sparsebundle"  could not be accessed (error -1).

When i try to backup my Time Capsul I get the error (MacBook Pro.sparsebundle”  could not be accessed (error -1).)
please help my how I solv this problame?
    Mrityunjoy Biswas

I had this problem, and found that changing the name of my Time Capsule's hard drive fixed it.
You'll need to use Airport Utility to connect to your Time Capsule.  My Time Capsule drive was named "Time Capsule HD." I renamed it to "Data," and that fixed the problem.

  • HT3275 I keep getting a message that says, The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data-1/iMac.sparsebundle" could not be created (error 60).

I keep getting a message when trying to back up my main computer = 'The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/CMN iMac.sparsebundle” could not be created (error 60).'
The error message changes sometimes to other numbers but it is not able to back anything up.  I have deleted any previous back ups and rechosen the destination disk (Time Capsule).  My other computers are doing the same thing periodically but this is the most important back up that I need.
    Any ideas anyone?

Please help! Got myself a timecapsule a few months back. I just use it to back up my mac, and also have a wireless printer connected. I have a Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7.3). When I first got my Time Capsule it backed up flawlessly, but in the last few months has started showing the message above. So now it wont back up at all.
Have done probably 2 system updates during this time, and even a firmware update a few days ago for the timecapsule. This recent firmware update seem to fix it for a day, but now the problem is back!!! Even Mac support wasnt able to help last time I called.

I can select a disk (Time Capsule) and initiate the backup.  It only "waits to back up" then "making backup disk available" and remains frozen there.  I tried to update the software a while back and was unsuccessful, I think that may be the issue.
