HT3281 Frustrations with searching iTunes for podcasts

Does anyone actually find the iTunes store search useful and/or intuitive?
1. Why would ANYONE want to search for a keyword across podcasts, albums, songs, apps, itunes U, collections etc etc all at once?? Ok, maybe include that feature for completely clueless individuals who are seriously bored. For myself and surely the vast majority, we know what we're looking for and don't want to be smashed in the face with an abundance of completely inappropriate results.
2. More details are required on the results page. As the medium has been around for so long, and so many podcasters come and go, many podcasts seem to date back to the dawn of time. I don't want to click on a search result only to find out the podcast stopped updating 5 years ago. We should be able to sort by date, filter out dates etc. PODCASTS ARE TOPICAL. Apple created them, how can you not know this?
3. The back button is not a back button. If I click 'see all' (which I shouldn't have to) and click on a result to find out more (which again, shouldn't be required if the display options were any good) only to find out I'm not interested and I want to keep searching, guess what? I click back only to be taken back to that same infuriating display of search results across every type.
I'm guessing the search for music is equally frustrating though I wouldn't know, iTunes is so slow and clunky I avoid using it except where absolutely necessary and buy my music elsewhere.

What is odd is that it was fine several months ago - nothing that I know has been changed on our end (except new audio tracks added to the feed).

The newest version of iTunes is awful when it comes to Cloud syncing-file management. I'm constantly frustrated with what iTunes 'chooses to eliminate from my mobile device and settings aren't fine-grained enough to allow for real user control.

I'm endlessly frustrated with iTunes Cloud syncing, something that was supposed to make lenjoying my music easier. I routinely find that, though itunes and podcasts have been split, iTunes arbitrairily removes music files or in progress podcast in favor of 'new' podcasts. The settings are just not fine-grained enough to allow true user control and so we are instead subjected to 'Apple knows best' protocols. I understand and appreciate the level of exacting control Apple excercises over their ecosystem, however, more and more often I see them tightening control over things that should be user control while dropping the ball on aesthetic desisions made in producing their own software (see the hideous pull down tab for iTunes to access Podcast, TV shows, Music, etc.
I would like to see features like those in Mail and the Podcasting apps implemented in iTunes afor the management of content on mobile devices, for instance it would be great to swipe to delete files that you know longer want on your device, at both the album and song level. Another issues is the new pushiness of iRadio and iTunes Store, the app now seems to default to the iRadio page (versus the last page Albums, songs, etc. that the user was navigating, or in the instance of the iTunes Store push, if I doon't have all the tracks of an album i own on my mobile device 'complete my album' takes you to iTunes store rather than showing the 'cloud' download icon next to missing tracks. These are the tactics I expect from Google, not Apple (pushing commerce over quality user experience).
Fix these things Apple, please.

N73 - trouble with search function for the contact...

Hi, i just bought a N73 series phone. i noticed that N73 search function for the contact list is different from others standard. Normally, it should show the 1st contact of the 1st letter that i pressed instead of the contact contains the letter. I found difficulties to look for the contact unless i press 3 or 4 letters. is there any setting can be changed to order search function only search the contacts with the 1st letter that i pressed instead of the letter in middle of the contact?
For example:
ang on
office
when i pressed "o", the contact will search for "ang on" instead of "office" unless i press few more letters like "off".

I found the same problem as this with all my S60 3rd edition phones, what I have done is in my contacts put a hyphen (-)in between the name - i.e Joe Blogs would come us under searches for J & B, so try putting Joe-Bloggs, this way, the search will only come up with all the J's in your phone book directory.

Search results for podcasts not matching iTunes profiles

There are podcasts on iTunes that have different titles and artwork in search results than their iTunes profile pages. For example, the podcast listing for LightTalk podcast: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=333378833 displays the correct title and artwork, but when searching the iTunes Store for 'LightTalk', the artwork is missing and the title is incorrect (looks like the title is the author's name in the search results). This podcast was submitted to iTunes about 2 weeks ago. There are other podcasts having the same problem and suspect the problem is isolated to only new listings.
This is a problem on both Windows and Mac versions of iTunes.

I to have the very same problem! search results do not match the feed. Its been 1 Week now, i've added 2 more podcast since feed was submitted, the feed page works perfect, picture, artist, desciption, and updates within hours... perfect!
The problem is how often dose the search index get updated?

Frustrated with importing iTunes library to a second PC

I have a very large iTunes library on my home PC, which contains extensive playlists and ratings. I have always had a second copy of my library on an external hard drive which I use at work, and have always been able to copy the iTunes library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files over to the work PC every time I updated my external hard drive.
I have today upgraded my work PC to a Windows 7 workstation, and have installed the latest version of iTunes. I made a fresh copy of my iTunes library onto my external hard drive (I spent a lot of time this past week digitizing about 20 record albums). I copied over the iTunes library itl and xml files.
I've had absolutely no luck with this. I've tried setting up iTunes to point to the external drive as the place where the music is located, and I've tried copying everything to the workstation's C drive where iTunes would expect it to be by default. Nothing seems to be working - every song on my playlist has the exclamation point next to it saying iTunes cannot find the file. I've noticed that the file location that iTunes gives for each song is usually incorrect in some way - most of the time, iTunes thinks the file path to each song starts with File:\\LocalHost before going to the actual file path.
I have tried editing the xml file to make sure the path is correct, and then importing the xml file - and when it does that, it appears to have the correct location for each file, and the exclamation points are gone - but when I try to play a song, I get a status bar saying "opening URL" and then nothing happens. And, instead of the exclamation mark next to each song, I now have the symbol you see next to a Podcast (sorry, don't know what it is called.)
I have also tried just letting iTunes rebuild the library based on the files I copied to the C drive, but this is not an acceptable solution because none of the playlists or ratings carry over. And, as the library has well over 15,000 items in it, (all of my CD collection and about half of my vinyl collection), I cannot sit there and manually point to each song, either.
Does anyone have any hints about where I can go from here?

The file://localhost bit it telling you where iTunes "thinks" the file should be and that it doesn't appear to be there. Depending on how you messed around with things you could have created the situation where iTunes had two links to the same physical file. Cleaning one "duplicate" breaks the remaining entry. There is also a situation where a setting gets changed causing iTunes to "think" that files are in the pre-iTunes 9 layout, when they are in the new one, or vice-versa. Comparing the expected location with the true one may reveal if that is the problem, or if some other manual folder move needs to be undone.
If the tracks can be found somewhere, and they are in a reasonably sensible structure, my script FindTracks can often reconnect them to iTunes.
As for deduping...
Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

I cannot figure out how to do a search for a song; to see if it resides within the iTunes database? Then; I can decide wheather to purchase it or not. The website is very busy with options. Please help. Thanx in advance.

Ok, I just tried Louie, Louie got over 50 hits including what I believe is the original version by "The Kingsmen." Got 2 hits for the Lonnie Mack song. Got 3 hits for the Buffalo Springfield song. No hits for Leslie Pearl, but 3 hits for what appears to be that song, but not Pearl's version. Nothing for Steve dahl. There were several hits for the Standells, but not the song you are looking for. One hit for the Royal Teens song. A few hits for Lulu, but not that song. I believe this is the correct Wilson Pickett song but it is listed in the store as "Get me back on Time, Enine No. 9". Nothing for the 2 songs by 10cc. 2 hits for the Chambers Bros. song. I did this by simply using the "search" function in the upper right.
Sorry I couldn't get back with you until today, but I had a thunderstorm last night, had to shut down, & then it was time for bed.

Lost the ability to search itunes for tracks

I am stuck ! I have lost the itunes finder and the mouse controlled on screen volume control/fast forward/rewind. I can do it all through the remote (bar search for tunes). I must have changed something but for two days I have been trying to get it back to normal. Please help

Have you been playing around with spaces lately? Sounds like the itunes "window" is off screen in a different space. Check in system preferences>expose & spaces. When you hit F9 does the itunes window show up in expose?

Problems with search help for cost assignment

We have recently applied SP 10 to our Dev and QA systems. We have our system set up in such a way that when the user clicks on the binoculars for cost assignments and does a search, they will only see the accounts they are authorized to use (coming from the backend security). This works just fine in Production (without SP10).
But, depending on the test user, I am getting mixed results in our QA system. I have already sent a message to OSS but am hoping someone in this forum can point me in the right direction.
I have searched the forum and found several topics on this issue. But, I was not able to find something that is the same as my problem.
For my test users, they click on the binoculars then click Start. One test user was brought back to the shopping cart without any results. Another test user was given several entries. But, they did not belong to that user.
Can someone please point me in the right direction to get the binoculars working correctly?

In general the CO Area (here: cost center) is derived from R/3 Backend Enterprise
Structure and should be re-determined if another acc. objects is
entered that belongs to a different CO Area. Please also check the
settings in R/3 Backend IMG, path:
->Enterprise Structure ->Assignment ->Controlling
->Assign company code to controlling area
The company code is assigned to the CO Area through the following
assignment:
->Materials Management
->Assign purchasing organization to company code
The CO Area is in general the organizational object in
highest (CO) level. Assignments to other MM/CO objects are located
in lower Enterprise hierarchy level. Hence, the CO Area does not
change if a different CO object of a lower level (here: cost center)
is assigned to a SRM document.
For Second::
The only possibility I see is to set the message to error message in
the customizing in the backend. The message number is KI 170. When you
look at the long text of this message in transaction SE91 in the
backend, you will find the description where to look in the customizing.
When you have set this message to ERROR, then no purchase order will be
created in the backend. Instead the shopping basket gets the status
'ERROR' and the administrator will recieve a work item in his inbox.
Then he can check the backend and either post the purchase orders again
after solving the problem, or he can delete the shopping baskets.
Please check the note for more infos or the documentation.
Setting the message KI 170 to error message will solve your problem.
See note 333136. I would think that if you create
a PO directly in the backend if you do not have the message configured
as and error you will be able to create the PO.

Using new shuffle with exsisting iTunes for my iPod

I tried taking some songs from my iTunes that I use for my iPod. Well on iTunes the songs are there but it will not let me eject my shuffle and the songs don’t play on my shuffle.

How are you 'taking' songs from your iTunes? And is it yours as opposed to someone else's?
Which "it" is it that doesn't let you eject your Shuffle? If you mean iTunes, how is it preventing it?
Finally, what led you to think that they got transfered to your Shuffle in the first place?

Apple has not updated the desktop versions of the iWork apps to use iCloud. Until they do you have to use iCloud.com in a web browser or iTunes to sync files. You could also try e-mail or DropBox.
I've gone back to saving this as a text clipping on my desktop to drag & drop into replies several times a day.

How do I fix this problem with my iTunes?

I've been having problems with my iTunes for over a week now - since I tried to update to iOS 5 - and I've tried everything. I've had to uninstall iTunes multiple times and each time I have reinstalled it, there has been some form of error, the list seems endless. Today, I managed to get an older version to succeessfully install but when I tried to update to the newest version, this is what appeared on my screen after the 'install.'
"The procedure entry point AVCFAssetCreateWithByteSystemAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll"
Any idea what this means, and/or how to resolve it?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?
