HT3371 What if you cannot bring your computer into an apple store? (For unknown reasons)

My Macbook is currently running on "Service Battery" and with that I know I need to replace it soon. This computer was from my brother. He sent it to me since this is my first year in Highschool and he could get it for free since he works for Apple. When he gave it to me, he said I couldn't bring it into an Apple store. He didn't give me a reason though and Im afraid to go past what he said and bring it in.
Anyone have any advice?

It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • What happens when you take your iPod into the apple store for battery replacement?

I am taking mine in tomorrow. How do they decide if your battery is bad enough to get the iPod/battery replaced? What do they do with your iPod? Do they mess with the apps and data?? Do they search your history to see what you've done on it? HELP!

By reading the following, Apple exchanges your iPod for a refurbished (includes new battery) iPod. Data is no preserved/restore to the replacement
Apple - Support - iPod - Service FAQ
Will the data on my iPod be preserved?
No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, or after-market personalizations. Before you submit your iPod for service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the data stored on your iPod and reinstall that data.
Attention iPod touch customers: Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPod touch and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPod touch may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need to restore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.
However, I have heard in this forum that sometimes Apple will just replace the battery.
If you are concerned I would do one fine sync/backup and then go to Settings>General>Reset>Ease aall content and settings.

  • My Macbook Pro keeps randomly going to sleep. Can i bring my computer into an Apple store to have this fixed?

This has been happening for quite some time now, and it always happens at random times.  I'll simply pick up the computer or tap on it and it'll go to sleep instantly.

I would try Linc's suggestion and in addition, try zapping your PRAM.  I had all sorts of erratic power management issues with my MBP when I first got it, including the keyboard backlight and screen dimming in the middle of a session for no reason.  The only thing that corrected it was resetting the PRAM. • HT1689 What do you do if your computer is not upgradeable to snow leopard using Iphone 5

What do you do if your computer is not upgradeable to snow leopard using Iphone 5,
just purchased my new iphone 5 64gb- but does me no good if I cant back up pictures or add my music frm my computer even using icloud. How can I do the things I was able to do with the Iphone 4 now that the 5 will not be recognized at all by my Mac without shelling out thousands of dollar to buy an intel runnung computer just because the Apple software department cannot plug in backwards compatibility to new products such as the iP 5! My computer runs perfectly what am I going to do with two computers if I were to buya new one.
any one having the same stupid issue here or am I the only one frustrated with apple making new products and making people have to purchase, upgrade, pay for icloud storage when their home computers are completely capable of doing that which is the reason they bought them in the first place.

So just called apple for the second time about this issue.  First time the tech i got on the phone i think was clue less about the problem. She recommended i buy a cd to upgrade my system and that would fix the problem and my os would be functional with iP5 , iTunes etc...
So i gave her my computer serial and required info so she could look up my system and make sure  it would work.  I was sold a cd convinced it would work after all apple care techs should know what they are doing right!?
Got the cd in the mail pop it in and nothing, error window saying need intel processor to install this cd contents ***! Yea thats what  said today  after the second call to apple.  I did get another hint of hope from the tech i got on the phone today tho.  He really seemed to know his stuff.., so now i fond out apple can replace your processor on certain model computers FOR FREE just pay the parts and you are ready togo with snow leopard and " anything apple throws at your computer" . Going to try this also and will post results soon for all you that may have some hope left...

  • Can you take an ipod touch into and apple store to have them fix a cracked screen without them having to sent it off to get it repaired?

I cracked the top left part of my ipod touch and i was wondering if i could take it into a apple store and they could repair it there instead of sending it away for repairs.

For the posts in this forum, Apple does not repair your iPod except maybe for a battery replacment.  They will exchange it with a refurbished iPod. for this price:

    For their policy see:

  • For the ipod nano replacement program, can I just bring the iPod into an Apple store near me and do the exchange there?

Just wondering if this is a possibility, because I think it'd be easier that way.

Call the apple tech support line printed in your manual. They may be able to walk you through some troubleshooting. If they can't fix the problem, they can book you an appointment at your apple store. I just went through this yesterday.

  • HT4061 What if you cannot get your IMEI number?

I cannot get to my IMEI as my iPhone 4 is dead nothing, will not restore comes back as Error 1600. I would like to get service to look at it to see if it is worth repairing but they will only do so if I post an IMEI number but I am unable to do so without seeing it on the screen and I do not have a back up as the PC I had crashed also about 6 months ago, a new Macbook has taken its place but only after my phone crashed. How can i get my phone serviced now?

Have you checked this knowledge base article to see if it helps find the number?
Since you list a CDMA iPhone, does that mean you have Verizon service?  Have you tried contacting Verizon to see if they can give you the number?

  • What do you do if your sceen do not work

my iphone3 touch screen will not work. i can not turn it off or anytihing

Take it to Apple Store and get a replacement:
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.

  • I bought an Air from someone and I cannot change the Apple ID in the apple store for the updates... even I am logged in for Itunes... PLEASE help..

Hi guys, finally I made it to the apple family by buying an Air from a guy I knew... But I cannot change the ID in the apple store for updates... I managed to change it in Itunes, but when I want to download the updates it would tell me that I should log in with the other account...
    Please advise...
    Thank you!!!

The OS and the preinstalled iLife apps are permanently assigned to the Apple ID of the original owner. You need to ask the original owner to call Apple Care and request that the Mac be released from his Apple ID.
The only secure way to use a second hand Mac is to erase the HDD and install a fresh version of OS X.
The only version of OS X that the original owner can pass to you is the version of OS X that came preinstalled on the Mac. The original owner cannot legally pass to you any apps that he bought in the MAS.

  • HT4913 iTunes Match:You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 85 days. What can I do?

I'm subscribed to iTunes Match but when I turn it on I get this message:You can use iTunes Match on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 85 days. What can I do?

I had this happen back in December/January. I sold my MBP that I used to subscribe to iTunes Match back in December. In January, I bought a used MB and tried to use iTunes Match on it. I was told I had to wait nearly two months to use it on the new computer. I waited and was finally able to use it in the new computer.\
Sadly, this has more to do with the content providers (Record lables / movie studios) than it has to do with Apple impsoing the restrictions.
