HT3486 iMac HD replacement

i just upgrade my imac 24" to a new 1 TB HD and setup the new HD with my time capsule previous backup.  Everything went perfect.  I am now with the new 1TB HD on my imac, but I entered the same password and could not log in.  Can someone tell me why?

You're looking for a 3.5" serial ATA (SATA) drive. Newegg has these 2TB drives available:
http:/http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007603%2060 0003269%20600003300%20600003340&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=RATING&PageSize=20
I like Newegg for their user feedback and clearly (for the most part) identifying drive warranties. In the 2TB range, many are 5 years.

No. Wiping the HD will erase the OS on it.

  • Imac 27 replacement question

    hi all
i have recived friday my new imac from apple online store but it has a very bad yellow tint.
i'm from italy and my imac is a week12.
the replacement imac in substitution is new or a refurbished products?
or is better to ask for a refound and re do a new apple online store order?
    hi and tnx

If you ordered your iMac from the online store, they will want you to return it to them (they'll provide the shipping information/approval), and they'll send you a new iMac. You can ask for a refund I believe but they may want to replace it. I am not sure of the process in Italy.
I do not understand why you want a refund if you then want to order another iMac from the online store. Sounds like a return and replacement is what you really want to do.
Make sure you have applied all firmware and software updates to your current iMac. Check using "Software Update" from the Apple menu. It may be that your problem is addressed after applying those updates.

  • 24" iMac HD Replacement & Warranty

I have an early 2008 iMac 24" with a 500 GB HD. I also have the extend Apple warranty that is good until May 2011.
If I take the iMac to a service center listed on the Apple website and have them replace the hard drive with a 2 TB HD will my warranty still be good?
Is there a particular drive I should be looking for or to avoid? I want to dual boot with Windows 7 and have 1 TB for each OS.

The warranty should be good however the replacement drive would not be covered as that wasn't what originally came in the iMac. When you say it has an "extended Apple warranty" I'm assuming you mean AppleCare.

  • 24" IMAC 09 - Replacing HDD -  Size, Hybrid, speed?

HDD went down, got it back but it's not right.  Am replacing, would like to get Hybrid, but seems they are all 2.5", use adapter, probably not, Recommendations for HDD, 1 tb, 7,200 RPM, 6GBS?  Just inquiring what people are using, and am especially interested in the hybrid (HDD/SSD) option, If so will probably have to wait till they move off the 2.5 and on the 3.5 perhaps.  Awaiting response.

Should work fine, good luck with the upgrade!

  • Imac 2006 - replace Install disk

    Hi all,
I was trying to re-install Tiger in my (really OLD ) iMac 2006 24. However, seems like it the install disk is corrupted
since the installation cannot continue after a point. To verify that the disk was the problem I did the disk verification
    step but it fails.
This model is so old that I don't know what to do to replace the disk. However, I still want to use the computer since
it's still OK for my parents since the only thing they need is just to check e-mail, skype and watching DVDs.
    Any ideas?
    thank you

Make sure the disk is REALLY clean. No smudges or scratches. If that doesn't help you should be able to order a replacement set from Apple.

  • IMac HD replacement

    Hi,
I have an iMac 24" 3.06ghz early 2008 iMac that I'd like to upgrade the HD. Can I use the Western Digital WD20EARS 2TB drive to replace it? Would it work or is there a more appropriate drive for my iMac? Thank for helping.

  • IMac Superdrive Replacement

My iMac's superdrive is damaged and needs to be replaced. It's in Corfu, Greece and there is no official service there. However a good friend of mine is a technician I trust so I only need to buy the superdrive and send it to him. Can you point me to stores selling replacements and shipping them to the UK?
(I bought the iMac last summer (20'', Intel-based))

  • IMac capacitor replacement didn't help...

i recently bought a imac g5 20" 2.0 GHz. the guy told me that he took it to a local repair shop and they said it had a bad logic board. when i got it home i plugged it in and pushed the power button. the fans started racing and it beeped (no ram). when i opened the cover i immediately noticed 10 bulging 6.3v 1800 uf caps. i powered it on with the cover off and only the first two LED's were lit, no video LED. i ordered new caps for it and decided to replace all of them. i went to radioshack before the caps came in and bought a brand new desoldering and soldering irons. now i have a lot of soldering experience and i made sure i took my time to replace the caps neatly and made sure i didn't burn up the seats. now after being very excited about powering this thing up all i got was fans running, DVD drive spinning up, no video and the same two LED's on. the only thing different is that it doesn't beep, i have never got a chime out of this thing. i checked the battery and it has 2.95v so im sure thats not the problem. i tested the power supply and it checked out. i have tried a dozen different combinations of plugging and unplugging components. what is the next step in diagnostics to take, or maybe im overlooking something... please let me know!!!

    Hey Kozman,
checked the battery and it has 2.95v
Hmm mine all read above 3.0 Volts usually 3.09 V.
i tested the power supply and it checked out.
How did you test the supply?
Did you reset the SMU? (from the Service Source)
"The SMU supports the following functions
    • provides initial configuration of system clocks
    • automatically initiates and sequences voltage and frequency slews when the OS
requests a transition to a new run level
    • handles all power button and environmental user events
    • controls RPM fans
    • provides processor Mode Ring and thermal data store
    • monitors processor temperature and power consumption
    • monitors VRD10-compliant processor power supply digital interface.
The iMac G5 system employs advanced thermal and wattage management to keep
acoustic noise to a minimum. The enclosure is divided into discrete zones, each with
independently controlled fans bringing in cool air from the front of the enclosure, directing
it over system components and exhausting it out the rear. Temperature and power
consumption are monitored by the operating system which communicates with the SMU,
which in turn controls and monitors fan operation. If Mac OS X is not booted, thermal
management must be provided by the alternate development operating system.
    Note:
If Mac OS X is not booted and the alternate development operating system does not
manage the fans, the fans go into an unmanaged state and run at full speed.
The SMU controls the fans and regulates the speeds to run each fan. The SMU derives
fan speed from sensors in each thermal zone. Some of these sensors monitor thermal
only, while others monitor both thermal and power.
If the SMU does not receive an update from the operating system within two minutes, it
begins to ramp up the speed of the fans to full speed.
Resetting the SMU (System Management Unit)
    1. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    2. Wait 10 seconds.
    3. Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on
    the back of the computer.
    4. Let go of the power button.
    5. Press the power button once more to start up your iMac G5."
Here's the part about the LEDs,
    LED 1
indicates that the trickle voltage from the power supply has been detected
by the main logic board. This LED will remain ON whenever the iMac G5 is
connected to a working AC power source. The LED will remain on even when the
computer has been shut down or put to sleep. The LED will turn off only if the AC
power source is disconnected or the power supply is faulty.
    LED 2
indicates that the main logic board has detected proper power from the
power supply when the computer is turned on. This LED will be ON when the
computer is turned on and the power supply is working correctly.
    LED 3
indicates that the computer and the LCD display are communicating. This
LED will be ON when the computer is turned on and video signal is being
    generated.
    LED 4
lights only if the computer detects an over-temperature condition. This LED
will be OFF when the computer is turned on and running at the correct
    temperature."

  • How can I erase my iMac and replace with a different MacBooks time machine back up ?

I have a 2008 iMac and it's contents are backed up on my time capsule. I want to lend the iMac to my sister. She has a 2007 MacBook  that is giving her problems. Her MacBook is backed up I
On a time machine file on an external. My question is
How can I replace all the data on my iMac with her time machine back up?

Is it possible to create a new user log in on my iMac and have all the info from my sisters time machine file transfer? Then the iMac would have two users me and her?
    Thanks

  • IMac 1TB Replacement Program

I just got an email from Apple stating my iMac qualifies for the iMac 1TB Seagate HD Relacement Program. Oh boy, aren't I lucky   I have Time Machine and a CCC bootable clone backup. Is it as simple as cloning back my System onto the new hard drive. The Apple email says I need to start from scratch with the Install DVD that came with the computer. What's the best proceedure.

As far as I know, Nvidia makes graphics cards, not hard drives. Are you sure you checked here:
@ abrody - They usually do not restore or backup your data - but that shouldn't be necessary; most people do have bootable clones or TM backups (or they should).
I've restored a clone to an internal; if an OS is installed on the new one, simply use TM to restore or, upon first setup, use Setup Assistant. I will most likely simply boot from my external clone, wipe the new internal drive, and clone my system back. That would be my preferred method.
I also received an email; I will call Apple to ask if it can be done in house since I have Applecare and in home service is included. If I have to take in the machine, I don't know that I would trust them with my SL install disks - I'd need to talk to them about it because I don't feel comfortable giving my disks to a repair place.
For anyone: remember to wipe the disk before it is replaced; you have no idea where that disk will go and who will have access to it......
Edit: I see you posted your HD info and it does say Nvidia - that is strange, especially since your hard drive also starts with ST which is Seagate.
