HT3523 Codec Errors/ Wanting to drag into iMovie

Hi! So my goal is to edit this video on iMovie from these files. My friend sent me a drop box containing .mov files of film shot. However, I can't open it because it doesn't have the same codec. How can I solve this so it can be downloaded and edited? thanks!

drag'n drop … perhaps?
I assume, you got a link to a 'Public Folder' in your friends DropBox.
drag the file to your Macs desktop, or open Finder, your Movie folder, drag it into there, to keep things organized.

  • Unkown error importing avi files into imovie

I'm having unkown errors importing any of my avi files into imovie all of a sudden. I have imported these files to make movies previously (all the files are straight from my Canon digital camera).
    Any Ideas?

    Muddguts,
did you discover why you received an import error message? I'm getting the same thing and I don't know why.

  • The volume for music clip that I drag into Imovie 08 can't be reduced.

I have dragged several audio tracks over to my video that I am editing. Everything was going fine I was able to reduce the volume to the percentage I wanted then suddenly all the tracks on my video are playing at 100%. I check the audio information and it is set at a lower percentage. Just to experiment I set the volume at 0% and it still plays at 100%. This has happened before but all I needed to do was restart my mac and it was fine. This time it didn't work. I have spent several hours setting up the audio on my video it would really suck if I had to do it all over again.
I don't know why people say Macs have less problems than PCs. Mine doesn't.

thanks for the link but unfortunately it doesn't help. I think my IMovie 08 might be corrupted or something. Because nothing can reduce the imported audio track's volume. I might need to take it to back to my store and ask them to have a look at it.

  • Codec error when installing music into slideshow

where would i be able to get music with proper codec to install into my slideshow.  i am using Photoshop Elements 6.

My expereince has been that generally music files in mp3 format which do not have DRM (digital rights management) and do not contain Album Art will work in PSE slide shows.
Perhaps you will be able to convert the music files that you have so they meet these conditions.  I am not using any of the many music download sites so I can't make any recommendations for downloading.

  • Why is a second image present when I drag one photo into iMovie timeline?

If I drag one photo, either from iPhoto or Finder, into the project library I expect a still image to be inserted into timeline for a default of 5 seconds.  But the first two seconds of the still is another photo!  I have no idea how this second image is showing up.  The pics are regular jpegs, and open up fine in preview and iphoto.  I can't figure out what is happening.  If I delete the imported image and any connected transitions, then re-drag into iMovie, I still get a double image.  Please Help!!!

To what codec, frame size & frame rate did you convert the files in Streamclip?
If it isn't AIC 720p30, you'll need to render.

  • Older DV Tapes Will Not Play or Import Into iMovie

I have a lot of DV tapes shot ten years ago on a JVC camcorder that I want to import into iMovie.
I have a new Canon Vixia hv 30 and I'm assuming these older mini DV tapes are compatible because these old tapes play fine in the camcorder itself, and also on my TV, but when I try to import them into iMovie, they do not display in the iMovie import window. However, new tapes shot recently with the new hv 30 display and import just fine.
Is there a problem with the old tapes being incompatible in some way I'm not understanding?
    Dino1956 answered a similar problem in 2008:
    *iMovie Camcorder Import Fix*
*Connect your camera. put it in 'play' mode (sometimes also called vcr). start up imovie (hd or 08; both work, but i use HD). go to the blue 'import' screen. it should just say 'camera connected'.*
*Now comes the trick. don't click import, but instead put your camera in 'record' mode. you should now see whatever it is that your aiming the camera at on your computer screen.*
*QUICKLY put your camera back in play mode. again very quickly press the 'play' button, either on the imovie import screen or on your camera. your DV tape will start to play back.*
*-On my computer, the video now suddenly shows up in imovie! You can now click the 'import' button in imovie, and imovie will start importing the tape in realtime. This is a bit slower than the normal import method, but hey, at least you can now get your video into imovie!*
...but this solution doesn't work for me. I cannot "quickly" click the Play button on the camera monitor or in the iMovie window after switching from record to Play on the camera because there is a 5 second time lag on both the camera's monitor and in the iMovie window while the iMovie screen/camera monitor switches over from Record to Play.
Is there any way I can get older DV footage into iMovie from my Vixia hv 30? My resources are at a very low ebb right now.

I found a clue on the www.hv20 website: Old DV tapes recorded before HDV...you need to go into the hv 30 menu and select "DV" rather than "HDV", then the video shows up in the iMovie import screen and imports easily.

  • Transfer VHS and Hi8 movies into imovie

I have a bunch of old Hi8 and VHS movies that I want to transfer into imovie so that I have them in digital format for the future. I know you need a device that you plug your analog player into (like your VCR or camcorder) and then that device will go to the mac via usb2 or firewire. Can anyone recommend a few devices that will work seamlessly with imovie. Preferably inexpensive?

  • Why can't I import my ppt.mov file into iMovie?

I created a ppt movie, added music and now have a file that I want to import into iMovie. When I hit the browse button, my ppt.mov file shows up but it's light and I can't select it.

You can export from powerpoint as a MOV file. You must take care that Powerpoint does not add any extra tracks like a manual advance track. This would cause iMovie to not be able to edit it. There are several parameters you can change in the "Options" when exporting as a movie from PPT, but it is not obvious to me which of these might introduce the offending track.
The most straightforward way (or most likely to succeed) is to export from Powerpoint as photos. You can select it to Save as Photos as a series of JPEG images. These jpegs can then be imported into iPhoto for easy import into iMovie. You can add the music in iMovie as well.
I guess the question is, what are you adding in iMOvie? That might help us give better advice.
Also, if you use the iWork App "KeyNote", it gives you the option of exporting to QuickTime without a manual advance track.) Keynote can import PPT. If you do a lot of this, Keynote might be worth the money. Else, just import the photos.

  • How can I import into iMovie?

I have a Sony Handycam DVD653E which records onto mini discs. On my old computer (non Intel) which ran Tiger I could download videos directly via USB into my iMovie, but that doesn't work anymore. I have a friend with a nonMac computer who can download for me and put the video onto DVD but I can't find out any format which enables me to then import it into my iMovie for editing. Any ideas? Please help!

I made a DV copy as you suggested, but it still won't drag into iMovie or be accessed from the pulldown menu at the top of my screen. Any more ideas?

  • Only certain .mov files imported from iphoto into imovie

I've been a MacBook owner for one week. When I first transferred over my photos into iPhoto, most of the .mov movie files were imported into iMovie. The problem is that the remaining movie files still in iPhoto were taken with the same digital camera and are .mov files, but I can't get them to import into iMovie!?!? There are about 5 movies still hanging out in iPhoto that I desperately want to get into iMovie...can anybody offer me any advice?
    Thanks for your time.
    Melissa

When I first transferred over my photos into iPhoto, most of the .mov movie files were imported into iMovie. The problem is that the remaining movie files still in iPhoto were taken with the same digital camera and are .mov files, but I can't get them to import into iMovie!
MOV file are containers. If the compression formats contained in the the MOV are not "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not import them. Some digital cameras use different compression formats for different video clip modes. Your best approach at this point is to open the files that will not import to iMovie '08 in the QT Player and check their audio and video compression formats in the "Inspector" window. (And if you compare them with the files that did import, you may get an idea as to what the specific problem may be.) For instance, an MPEG4/AAC file would normally import (as long as the MOV container does not contain a "Tween" track) while an MPEG4/µ-Law 2:1 file will not because the µ-Law audio is not editable.

  • Changing photos to 4:3 DV for importing into iMovie

Is there a way to change all of the photos I want to import into iMovie so I can make a slideshow? I realize that it's important to change the photos so I don't experience jaggies in iMovie but it's a pain to change each one individually. Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately there's no batch crop capability in iPhoto. If your photos are not in the standard digital camera 4:3 ratio you'll need to crop them accordingly. If they were then you can do a batch resize to the necessary 720 x 540 pixels for standard video in NTSC format while exporting to a folder on the desktop. Then use those in iMovie.
If you try to resize a non 4:3 image file to 4:3 it will keep the width and cut a little of the top and bottom. You may lose something you didn't want to that way. It's best to crop to the 4:3 yourself to make sure you get what you want.

  • Audio Wont Download into iMovie HD? HELP!

I was trying to upload a video into my macbook and the unit came up in my desktop and I clicked on it,
and I tried to like drag it into imovie 08 but that didnt work. but I heard that imovie is suppose to pickup a camera when it is connected to a usb cable but i didnt pick up my Kodak Easy Share at all. So I tried the next thing in trying to drag it into imovie HD, and that worked. But when it was done downloading in imovie hd, i played the video and no audio came out! just the video!!!! Please HELP ME!
My camera again is a Kodak Easy Share thanks

So what you have is a still camera that also shoots video, right? It probably stores it on an SD card in a format like MPEG1.
You will need to get MPEGStreamclip (free, Google it) and convert those video files to either MPEG4 or DV. Then those reformatted clips can be dragged into iMovie and the audio should still be there.

My friends have uploaded movies and pics into my MMe account.  Now I want to download into iMovie.  I tried importing them all to iPhoto, but out of the 499 items, only 32 import.  When I try again, it says that they are already imported.  How do I get these items into iMovie so I can start a project?  Can I download multiple items from my MobileMe at once?
