Only way is to do a restore from a backup that included those text message.

    If the backup is made after the messages were deleted, then you won't be able to get them back via an iTunes restore. However, you may be able to use a third-party program to look at the backup made after the messages were deleted and see what information about those messages is recoverable.
    One program, the one I work on, is called Decipher TextMessage. Our software will scan the text-message database and show you what information (whole and incomplete) was found that has been previously deleted. We've had a lot of success helping folks recover their deleted text messages -- it doesn't always work 100% since we're at the mercy of how the database works but it's worth a shot to see what you can find!

    Here is one place that claims to be able to do it. You have to send them your device.

    Generally, you can't but... try sending a text to the person and see if some of their conversation(s) returns.  I've seen this happen a few times.

    Hi, my iphone 4 is a couple of months old and I have not plugged it into computer yet hence have not synced or backed up. How do I retrieve messages that have been deleted? Ive read various versions of plugging in and not syncing, then restore iphone from backup, but as I havent created a backup as yet does this need to be done first before I restore the phone?     Sorry, but if you never backed up your phone, there is NO way to recover messages (or anything) deleted on the phone.  There is no "undelete" function for the iPhone.  That's why backing up and syncing were invented.

    Did you back up the phone before deleting the messages?  If so, restore the backup.  If not, they're gone. 
    Don't trust web sites that claim to have software that recovers without a backup - they are scams and identity theft sites.

    SMS/MMS messages do not display the "delivered" indicator. Only iMessages do.
    If you're getting the "delivered" message, that indicates that the recipient either has or had an iOS device set up for iMessage. If that device is NOT their current phone, then tell them to check their iOS device (or Mac) for the messages.

    What can you do to recover deleted text messages from iPhone?
