It sounds like you are unable to use iTunes shortly after launching it. Use the following article to help troubleshoot the issue, named:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

Start with this step to isolate 3rd party plugins that may be causing an issue, an use the rest of the troubleshooting if needed.
Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.

Can someone help me understand why the search engine will not do anything when I click the search icon or press enter, and why new windows won't open when I click on a link that should open one?

When I type something in the search engine at the right hand corner of the screen it will not allow the search to take place. What I mean is I either click the icon or press enter and nothing happens. I would understand it better if it at the very least gave me a error message. I have also noticed that things like the opening of a new window via a link will not work. An example is I was just on www.walmart.com and when I clicked on an image in order to see a larger one no window opened. I also recently noticed that when I had a lot of tabs open the shortcut menus and menus in general did not load completely or really at all keeping me from saving the pages as bookmarks. I know this could be from low internet speed, a lot of tabs etc..., but I've had many more tabs open than I had then and it worked. Plus all I did was delete or close one tab and suddenly it worked. I then recovered the tab and it still worked even though I was back at the original amount of tabs. I have the latest version of firefox, not counting the beta, and I don't know of any way to solve the two main problems.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

To add to whar Murray has written, the relative font metric actually comes from the size of the letter 'm'. This means that if you have a width of 20em it will be 20 times the width of the letter 'm' in your chosen font not the browsers default font, (thats the theory). Some older browsers may use the browsers default font, (NN4, I did say old!) or even a few current mobile browsers.
It is also possible, (in a few modern browsers) to use en or ex for the mesurement, and these are based on the letter 'n' and 'x' respectively.

Can someone help us get the COMMENTS ATTACHMENT TOOL to work as described in Acrobat Pro XI?

Our company is trying to switch from paper based reviews to the electronic shared reviews, and Adobe XI was selected. (Window 8, Acrobat XI) However, we are having a great deal of difficulty.
Our problem is that we would like to be able to attach small files (Word, jpeg, etc.) during the Send for Shared Review as described in the videos and online help.
What we have experienced is this:
1. A reviewer attaches the file using the Comments paperclip, publishes the Comments, and then closes.
2. When they, another reviewer, or the initiator opens the document, the Name of the file changes to "Unknown" and the name of the file w/ extension appears in the Description in the Attachments list. This makes the file unopenable.
Has anyone else experienced this? During the initial period while the file name still appears under Name in the Attachments list, it is openable. When that name shifts to the Description field it is lost.
Here is how we are doing it:
Choose the paperclip under Comments - Annotations
Choose the place in the document and click it to select.
Choose the file from the popup box and click Open.
Click OK to select the icon, and it is placed in the document. The file name now appears in the list of Attachments in the left side of the document. Using the single arrow (to the right) it shows the attributes (Name, Description, Modified, Size, Compressed Size.) The name appears under Name, the Description is blank, the Modified, Size and Compressed Size fields are filled in. Since everything is completed, press Publish Comments.
When the initiator or another reviewer opens it, the name is now Unknown and the file name is under Description and there is no way to identify the file or open it.
Can someone please help us with what we are doing wrong? They make it sound so simple, but nothing we try works. This was one of several feature that management really wanted.

1. We are hosting our Shared Review Workflows on our internal network server using Windows 7 (not 8), 64 bit.
2. Yes, all the other reviewers and I are using the most current version of Acrobat Pro.IX or Acrobat Reader (version 11.0.08) with the exception of one reviewer who is using Acrobat Reader 8.
The reviewer using Adobe Reader 8 is the only one who does not have the problem. She attaches a file in a slightly different manner (Attach file as a comment) and her file attachments can be opened and viewed by everyone.
I have discussed this in the Adobe User Community Bulletin Board for "How to work with comment tools in Acrobat XI." Lori Kassuba was able to replicate the problem during a shared review and thinks it may be a bug:

You only need to enter your information once. Ideally, turn on iCloud first. If you have already entered data in multiple devices and then turn on iCloud, you may have some duplicates to clean up.
You don't need to have anything plugged in. Just turn on iCloud. Your pictures will show up on all devices.

Can someone help me understand Photos app?

Hello I use the ipad2 which came with the Photo app already installed. I am quite happy taking and uploading pics to Photo but get very confused with how the app actually works.
Firstly the tabs, Photo - Photostream- Albums - Places. I place my photos into albums but have noticed there is already an album called Camera Roll which seems to be a duplicate of all my pics! Why? Then if I click on the Photo tab I seem to have all the pics again, annoying! Also if I delete a pic from an album it says deleting from album but keeping in photo library, what is this? I did download iPhotos as I wanted to do some editing but they gave me my pictures again!! I'm concerned that all this duplication will gobble up by memory, would that be correct? I have also tried deleting the original photo app and just using iPhoto or another app but it won't let me! I would really like to understand this app, any explanation would be appreciated, thank you

First of all this is my first post on sun forums. Besides that i only used java for few weeks now and i think java is quit a nice language.
I do have a question regarding java generics and wildcard casting (if you can call it that).
Assume you have following code.
public class Test <T extends Number> {

     Test(T x)
          this.x = x;
     T getX()
          return x;
     <U extends Number> void setX(U x)
          this.x = (T)x;
public class Main {
     public static void main(String[] args) {
          Test<Integer> p = new Test <Integer>(5);

First: If I declared p to be of type Test<Integer> then why did x in Test class changed its type from Integer to Double?
Second: Is this a possible unchecked casting behavior? and if so why does this work but doing something like this :

Hello and welcome to the Sun Java forums.
The behavior you describe would not occur if your setX(?) method used T instead of another type constraint.
However, let's look at why it works!
At line 1 in main, you create your Test with a type parameter of Integer; this becomes the type variable T for that particular instance of Test. The only constraint is that the type extends/implements Number, which Integer does.
At line 2 you obtain a reference to a Number, which is what getX() is guaranteed to return. toString() is called on that object, etc.
At line 3 you set the Number in the Test to a Double, which fits the type constraint U extends Number, as well as the type constraint T extends Number which is unused (!). Note that using a different type constraint for U, such as U extends Object or U super Number, could cause a compile-time error.
At line 4 you obtain a reference to a Number, which is what getX() is guaranteed to return.
The quirky behavior of setX is due to the second type constraint, which is obeyed separately; in this case, you probably want to use void setX(T x) {
this.x = x;
}edit: For the second part of your question, x = (Integer)y; fails because Integer and Double are distinct types; that is, Integer is not a subclass of Double and Double is not a subclass of Integer. This code would compile and work correctly: Number x = 5 ;

Here's my situation. I currently have a PC with an internal TV tuner card. I connect the internal TV tuner card to a standard QIP2500-2 Set Top Box. I've never been very happy with this setup, although it mostly works. But, I can only record or watch one channel at a time. In addition, changing channels requires a silly IR blaster so changing channels from Windows Media Center uses the IR remote signals to change channels on the set top box.
I was thinking I could use a product like this together with a cable card from Verizon, eliminating the set top box. I read the FAQ here but I am still unclear about how cablecards work and what capabilities they enable. My questions are:
1) The FAQ says using a cablecard eliminates the use of the online TV guide. How then does one schedule recordings in windows media center? It would seem silly to have to still have a STB just to get the program guide. What do others do about this?
2) Are the cable cards provided by Verizon compatible with the above product shown in the link? The Verizon FAQ says the device must be marked "DCR" to be compatible, but looking at all the digital tuner products at NewEgg, none of them seem to be marked with "DCR". They say, "m-CARD".
3) What are others out there doing to utilize FIOS TV with a computer and not have a set top box?

I haven't used the SiliconDust product, but I have been using a similar product by Ceton, for nearly five years.
By inserting a CableCARD into the tuner, you would have access to the same channels as a set-top box. You rent a cableCARD from Verizon, just like you'd rent a set-top box from them. I have an m-card, which just allows multiple channels to be tuned at once, unlike the older s-card.
You do, however, lose Pay Per View and on-demand programming. For me, it's not a great loss.
The program guide is handled through Windows Media Center, which holds programming data for the next 14 days. You schedule your recordings there. It's also smart enough to reschedule shows, if there's a recording conflict (too many scheduled shows, not enough tuners)
Although you can contunue to use an IR blaster (I use one), you can also get a Media Center companion app from Ceton. It doesn't require a Ceton tuner...it will still control Media Center. The app costs a few bucks, but it's worth it. They make it for Android and Apple, and maybe Windows Phone. It will let you manage your schedules, and use your phone/tablet as a remote control over WiFi.
Buy a big hard drive to hold your scheduled recordings. Expect to use an average of 10-15 gigabytes per hour of HD recording. The beauty of this system, is that you can just add another hard drive whenever you need more space, sonething the STB's won't let you do.
For service in other rooms, use an Xbox360 if you have one. Or, buy a Ceton Echo extender (again, doesn't require a Ceton tuner). Don't use Wi-Fi for your extenders. Wired Ethernet is a must...most wireless won't be able to keep up.
