I have an iphone 5 (updated with iOS 7.0.2 software) I am trying to send a message to another iphone 5 but it is automatically going by wifi. Great apart from
the receiving phone is in Cyprus and out of wifi range. Can someone please tell me how to send a normal SMS message

Make sure your have a text plan from your carrier and is properly provisioned.
Settings > Messages >
Send as SMS: ON
Show Subject Field: OFF

If you did the backup of your data before deleting then you can easily get back the data by the following steps:
1. First don’t connect your iPad directly to computer because the iTunes only saves the most recent backup
2. Now make sure that you have a valid backup as listed iTunes> preferences> devices
3. Before connecting your iPad make sure to check iTunes>preferences> devices "prevent iPad from syncing automatically." Because this will ensures we don't erase the previously stored backup. Then select ok and close the window after checking " don't sync"
4. Now connect your iPad to your computer .
5. Select the iPad as seen in the left bar of iTunes, as listed under the devices .
6. Select version and click on restore from options.
7. It takes a while to for iPad to erase itself, reset and restart.
8. After the iPad is restart you will see Set Up Your iPad in iTunes on your computer, and now just click the restore from the backup and click continue. It will take 10 to 12 minutes to recover your data from iPad, including the deleted sms, notes, photos, music, contacts etc.

Check to see if there is a 3rd party app that provides it. Also, check with your carrier. If you are in the US, this is not an important thing, and most of the carriers do not provide delivery for SMS. If your from outside the US, see if the carrier supports it and what needs to be done to get it.

SMS messages to "recycled" iPhone numbers still go to the previous owner's iPhone/iDevices

My brother got a non-iPhone phone and the number he got from the phone company was previously used on an iPhone with iMessages enabled. Now when we send him a text message via an iPhone, the number's previous owner gets the messages.
All fixes I read here and on other forums suggest disabling iMessage on the old iPhone/iDevice, turning it on and off, deregistering the old iDevice, etc. All of that would work if we have access to the old iPhone. But we don't. And strangely enough, the previous owner of the phone number does not want to disable it on his side, though he had contacted my brother about getting text messages that aren't for him.
One workaround I found is to disable iMessage on my iPhone if I want to send a text message to my brother. But that is just a crappy way of doing things.
There must be a way to fix this without needing access to the iDevice where the phone number had been used before. Apple can't expect that this would happen only when a person is switching devices. Phone companies reuse numbers and it's just my brother's luck that he got one that had been regisered with an iphone.
Anyone have ideas on how to fix this, other than changing phone numbers (and hoping it's not previously used on an iphone), or bombarding the previous owner with iMessages so he gets annoyed enough to fix it on his side?

How do I export or copy my SMS messages?

There's an Italian App which claims to be current (2011) Reviews of it are current (September 2011)
There is a trial version. I downloaded it but when run it tells me there are no SMS messages on my iPhone and that I must have iTunes sync with iPhone.
Why?
I did sync it. Does that mean iTunes keeps the SMS records too?
Anyway, the initial startup of that App fails because iTunes does not seem to have SMS records from myiPhone 4 or 3.
So, is there a way that I can download my SMS messages from my iPhone? And dosn't it seem like I should be able to since they are my messages and this is my iPhone?

Two steps to do that.
First, transfer your sms to you computer. You can using this iphone sms transfer and its guide.
Second, convert text file to pdf. Just use the adobe online pdf convert for simple text file.
So that you can export text messages from iPhone successfully!

Why am I no longer able to send sms messages on my iPad.

ipad is no longer sending sms messages. I've tried resetting network and rebooting. my husband has iPad and he's able to send sms messages. checked his settings against mine and they seem to have same settings. I'm at a loss and need help.

In order to send SMS messages (to non-iPhone/iPad users), you need to have your iPad connected to an iPhone. Both devices need to be logged into the same Apple ID. On the iPhone, go to Settings>Messages>Text Message Forwarding and select your iPad.

That setting is not relevant to sending SMS messages to non-iPhones. It only affects what happens when an iMessage won't go through to an iOS device. And, what the phone number is labeled has no effect on anything. You could create a custom label "Rutabaga" and the SMS would still go through if the account was properly provisioned. Those labels are for human brain convenience only.

Alright I couldn't find anything on this on the internet. My iPhone had a problem so I had it sent to Apple. It came back today and obviously all of my stuff is deleted. Before sending it to Apple I had done a backup of course. I have synced my iPhone with this backup now and everything seems to be there again - except the reminders and my messages. It's not bad about the reminders as I have written them down somewhere, for the time the phone was in repair, but all these nostalgic messages - well, I would love to get these back. I have an iOS Folder somewhere on my mac, with another folder called "SMS" with sms.db in there. I think I copied this from an earlier backup when I upgraded to iOS 5, so some messages may miss, but I don't know where the actual SMS from the last backup (before sent to repair) were saved.
I heard it's in User/Library and this is where my path ends because I do not have this folder, I only have a library folder in "Macintosh HD" on my Mac, and if I go further in this one, there isn't anything to find their either.
So yeah - basically, how do I get all these SMS back on the iPhone now?

Thanks, it worked. I had to sync it with the backup I had made back in October when I upgraded to iOS 5, because I couldn't find the backup I had made before I sent it to Apple. Is it possible that it was overwritten when I plugged my iPhone, is that what this option in the iTunes preferences is for?
If so, then I recommend to anyone who has the same issue to make sure it is disabled before even connecting the iPhone, or it will be overwritten.
