If you require a wireless connection, then you would need a second AirPort to accomplish this. The first AirPort would connect to the existing wireless modem via Ethernet. It would be configured as a bridge and also configured to be extended by the second AirPort. You can use any combination of 802.11n AirPort models for either of the AirPort to configure an extended network. Finally, you will want to disable the wireless radio in your wireless modem to prevent Wi-Fi interference between the two wireless networks.

New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS. FiOS does not use modems. Your cable modem is useless with FiOS. Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers. The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet. The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports. If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet. For slower speeds, coax is the default. Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work. Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay. If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time. You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models. The Verizon routers are good devices for most users. People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down. You can't run any other router firmware on them. WiFi range is decent, but not great. I'm quite happy with my Quantum router. YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want. However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router. They won't even mention it as an option. That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service. If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one. If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues. This will allow you to call their support. I am planning to buy a lcd display which basically has both dvi and vga ports. So, I thought I will plug my pc into the vga and my MB into the DVI and use the same display for both machines. I just need to switch between the source through the display menu in order to switch. Now the problem is I can't seem to fiigure out how to use a single wireless KB and a mouse to run in both systems.
Anyone has any idea?

I can see the appeal of your desired setup, but is the limitation the inability to "Pair" the mouse/keyboard to more than one computer at a time? (Practically, that makes sense, you don't want to be blindly moving both cursors around at the same time, since you can only see one screen at a time)
You CAN operate bluetooth devices on Windows without pairing-you just need to locate the device each time before using:

So maybe you can pair the Mac version, and just search out the device each time you switch over? (but then you would have to "unpair" it off the Mac too) Maybe you need to write two scripts for each platform: pair/unpair devices.
Sounds like it would be easier to buy two wireless keyboards and mice :P

All you have to do is go to msconfig and disable all start up apps except the touch pad and hit restart. This is immediately after the second in two days 2 hour recovery which fixes the problem. After watching while all the flab gets reinstalled and upon rebooting, I checked the fn key, its working. I went straight to msconfig and did what I described above checking the fn key while the restart choice is waiting.... it's working. After restart fn key and all the F keys at the top of the keyboard are dead and the wireless modem is also dead. Even tho the modem light is on. I go back to msconfig and enable all startup apps to no avail. I type in flash and restart the flash cards and it actually worked ONCE. I disable again as above and restart and every thing is dead again like before only now it's another two hours of reloading crap I don't need to get this other crap I don't need to work again. Surely...... there is a better way to turn the coffee shop modem on and off. What is it please? If this is the best toshi can do with a marketing device they are in trouble.

How can I use a wireless printer and the internet at the same time?

Hi there, I just installed a wireless printer but to use it I have to click on the Airport icon and select the printer in the 'devices' list. This deselects my connection to my wireless modem. Is there any way I can print and look at the internet at the same time? This does not seem right to me, I print a lot of info from the net and don't want to spend time selecting and waiting for connection back and forth all the time.

I have a Linksys WAG54G2 wireless G router. This router has a Wireless Protected Setup button which I understood would initiate a search for wireless devices and aid setup but it seems to do nothing. I made the mistake of tryig to use the linksys installation disk to access a setup wizard and that just reset my entire network back to factory settings and it took me 4 hours to reconfig my system. Won't be touching that again. It all seems odd, the printer is compatible with the router as far as I can see but I don't know how to get the router to recognise the printer.

When you say "wlan" are you trying to use your computer for internet sharing over wireless to other machines, and have your computer be the machine that routes the internet signal coming off the phone?
A better configuration would be to setup tethering of internet over Bluetooth for the phone, and then the computer can use its airport card to share the internet.
If you have an Airport Base Station, you can set it up to echo the WiFi signal being sent by the phone, and use the phone to share its internet over WiFi, using what is known as Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
Mind you internet on the phone being shared has its limits as your account probably is capped at how much data it can use in any one month. Computers using phone internet use a lot of data.
If this is over your head, you may want to bring the phone, your computer, and your Airport base station to an authorized repair shop, or Apple usergroup meeting where someone can at least configure everything as needed to share with the rest of the computers in your home.

It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

There is no merge but you can move data from one account to another via the Shared folder. Data is copied from Shared. Watch your free space when copying. These are large files. Do one at a time if you are on a small drive. After making copy, delete from other users before you start next copy.
Office365 installs in the main Applications folder and is available for all users on the computer. Activation is tied to the drive not the User.

Yeah, Siri - a headline feature on the iPhone 4s page - is beta at the mo.
But then anyone who's used Macs for a few years will know that most new software is pretty much still in beta when it's released anyway. Only Apple could get away with it and retain customers
