HT3559 iMac 20" 2008 power consumption off, sleep, idle?

Where can I find specifications for power consumption for older Macs?

Oops! I found some answers here. Though the archive is missing many machines, and specifically the 2008 iMac that I'm looking for http://images.apple.com/environment/reports/

  • Power consumption on sleep

After upgrading to Mavericks, I have noticed that the power consumption on battery on my MBP when in sleep with the lid closed is way up. 99% charge when puting the computer to sleep, 45% after 12 hours when opened. What gives? Any suggestions?

Actually, the APC 1200XS works fine if and only if the G5 is already powered on. I'm running a stock Quad G5 + and extra 4GB of RAM, but nothing else off of the UPS.
It's actually not uncommon to have appliances that draw significant currents/power on startup that exceed the basic circuit rating. Things like motors/pumps can draw large currents on startup. Circuit breakers and fuses need these high current levels to be present for periods longer than the lifetime of an inrush current situation. Most reactive components, i.e. the inductors and capacitors, in a large power supply like the Quad G5's only take few 10's of milliseconds to charge up, so the high draw subsides quickly.
I'd also be surprised if your APC 1500XS doesn't have the same issue as I have since my guess is that APC builds a class of UPS with the same basic electronics on the input side and then just modifies the output side a bit along with the battery capacity. You can test whether you have this issue as well by putting the machine to sleep, pull the UPS's plug from the wall and then wake up the computer (if it doesn't wake due to the power being lost).

  • Mac Pro (late 2013) Power Consumption in Sleep Mode

What is the power consumption of a Mac Pro (late 2013) when it is in Sleep Mode?   My specific configuration is 6-core with 32GB ram and 1TB SSD.

Too many http's in the link

  • IMac G4/700 Power consumption

New question on an old but reliable machine:
Lately my UPS has given an "overload" signal several times. It is supposed to handle 350 VA/200W.
I searched through this forum and could not find a thread indicating where to find the rated power consumption of my iMac G4/700.
Since this problem only started occurring recently I suspect my UPS battery is bad but I thought I would try to research all possibilities. Thanks for any help.

When shopping for a replacement battery for the UPS, also consider
the newer technologies in the higher model line of UPS products that
have an 'automatic voltage regulation' feature. This will help keep the
attached computer healthy and protect it from both Up & Down action
on the grid. Also, some have a special USB-Ethernet data cable for
use with the uninterruptible power supply that Mac OS X can then use
to see and control the backup power configuration within System Prefs.
The UPS, beeping, may also mean that during the weather and holiday
seasonal loads on the grid, there are localized changes in the quality &
availability of electricity in your area. My newer APC brand UPS is OK
in that it shows the power specifications on an LED display on it, and
also allows me to set power settings in the Energy preference panel.
And it has a bigger battery, better technologies than my old failed one.
Sometimes warehouse stores have a fair price on these, since shipping
is generally high from elsewhere, due to the weight of the battery's lead.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • IMac (Retina 5K) power consumption

At what wattage is the iMac 5k (4.0 GHz) rated?
I've ordered one, but want to properly spec out a UPS for it and my peripheral devices.
The only tech specs I can find regarding power consumption are:
    Electrical and Operating Requirements
    Line voltage: 100-240V AC
Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz, single phase
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
Operating altitude: tested up to 10,000 feet
(Ref: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) - Technical Specifications)

Drill down in the Tech Specs link to the Environmental Report.  ~72W at idle.

  • Insane power consumption when sleeping

I took my black macbook out of it's case today (Tuesday) having last put it away with a half full battery on Saturday. It had completed exhausted the battery and had to wake from hibernation.
I regularly find that it goes from a full charge to about 88% just from sleeping overnight.
A friend of mine who has the exact same spec. does not experience this behaviour. Any ideas how to make it not use stupid amounts of power while sleeping?
    Thanks

  • Myth or Truth, iMac uses less power in Standby than when off

I'm sure I read this somewhere on the internet.
I'm not sure what model it was for, but I heard that the imac uses less power when in sleep than being shutdown (when still plugged into the wall)
Can anyone confirm or denigh this?
Ifs it true any web links to this?

If it's powered off, it's using no power at all.
I suspect this is about the power cost of waking from standby versus pwoering up from off, and whether it makes more sense to leave your Mac in standby when out of use or whether to swticth off completely.
It depends on your usage pattern. If you leave the Mac unused for very long periods of time, it makes sense to power off, because standby uses a little power constantly. If you leave it unused for shortter periods, you probably use less power in standby.
Unfortunately, I don't have a magic number for the time period
As a rule of thumb, I'd say if it's unused for less than a day or so, standby makes more sense. There's a discussion at the link below which also fails to give a definitive answer but has some interetsing comments.

  • Power consumption for router and switch

I have a linksys EZSX88W switch which I checked power consumption of 70ma idle. It's supplied by the adapter which has an output of 1000ma. Not sure what the consumption when switch is being used. I also have an WRT54GS but haven't checked consumption yet, but it's powered by the same 1000ma adapter. In an effort to save energy-that -GREEN FEELING- I was thinking of using on power adapter to power bothe the router and switch. Has anyone tried this yet?? Also if I posted this in the wrong area I hope the moderator will move the post.
    thanks

So you are thinking of Powering on both the Devices using a single Power Adapter? Well never tried to make both the devices use a single power adapter. As far as i think its not possible. But if you still wish, you can give a try and check if that works for you or not.

  • HT3559 iMac power consumption

Where can i find the power consumption level of my Imac (21.5 inch late 2009) when it is in sleep mode.
It doesn't seem to include sleep mode here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3559
I have seen it in the past in the enviromental report but that doesn't seem to be online for the 2009 model anymore?
    Thanks

  • What is the power consumption of an iMac in sleep mode?

Like most people, I let my iMac "sleep" overnight with all sorts of things set up on it. I want to buy a UPS to make sure that even if the power is interrupted, it will stay on in sleep mode.
    So, my questions are:
How much power (watts) does a 20" Core Duo iMac w/2GB memory use in sleep mode?
How much battery power do I need to buy? (I'm not an engineer; I don't know if, say, 400 watts for 60 minutes would let me use 10 watts for 2400 minutes, etc.)
    Thanks!
iMac Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I also found this page, which suggests that the Core Duo processor has cool (ha) features:
"the Core Duo processor introduces new integrated per-core digital temperature sensors and advanced thermal management. One advantage of this is that if a sensor shows that one core is running hot, the thermal system will automatically lower the frequency and voltage to both cores to cool the whole chip off."
Supposedly, the Core Duo also has Enhanced Deeper Sleep (yikes) which can take processor power usage down to an amazing 1.8 watts. I don't even know if an off-the-shelf iMac can make use of EDS, which must be enabled in the BIOS of the computer.
However, I still don't have the answer to my question - How much power (watts) does a 20" Core Duo iMac w/2GB memory use in sleep mode?

  • Power consumption when PowerOFF: 24" iMac 2009

I really wonder about my iMac 2009 Modell: when using sleep mode I got 11-12 watts power consumption. But when shutting down the iMac (Power Off in Apple Menu), the same iMac takes 10 watts
Is this normal and how can I get sleep mode with far less or none watts?

I'm having the same thing with my 2008 24 inch iMac. I'm not sure if it is the hard drive or one of the fans, but there is a loud WHOOSH every time it starts up or wakes from sleep and the whirring noise is pretty much constant. It used to be completely silent, so this new sound is very noticeable.
Lately, the noise with abruptly stop and then make a struggling sound as if whatever is causing it is either going away or making it stop revolving or whatever (it would help if I could determine exactly WHAT is making the noise). I check iStat, but can't see any wide variance in the fans rpm speeds when it is happening or the heat of various components spiking. It is not affecting my computer use as it did the first time I had a similar problem (which turned out to the the hard drive, since replaced under warranty).
I bought Apple Care for this computer, so it is still covered under that, but I don't know if the fact that the noise is completely annoying to listen to all day is enough reason to bring it in for service and be covered under the extended warranty.

  • My iMac 27 2010 vintage goes to sleep and won't wake up...I have to push the on off button and hold till it shuts down and then re start...This is not good..Help please

    Help Please
    Jim

Ops I replied to myself in error.....
    Tom:
I performed the steps indicated but this morning when I clicked the mouse and hit the space key and clicked the track pad again as before nothing happens.
I hold the power button for a few seconds and the screen fills as if the computer was normally awakened but it is locked up.
Then I have to shut it down with the power button  and then power it up as a reboot.
Not good...SMC reset didn't work....Throughout the day yesterday I put the computer to sleep and woke it up normally.  It seems to be a overnight problem.
Am I going to have to shut it down everynight?

  • Power consumption of the iMac 2007

    Hello!
I found at this website: http://www.apple.com/environment/reports/ the reports also for older models of the iMac, but not for mine.
Can someone eventual tell me the power consumption of the iMac 2007 24" in standby- ond off-mode? Or is there an older report from Apple available somewhere?
    Best Regards!

It's going to fall somewhere between the idle of 92W and the maximum of 310W.  I would aim at around 210-230W.
I run mine on a APC 1500 pro which provides about 15 minutes at 400W.  I have other devices on it as well.
I would think at a minimum something like below.  This would only provide about 8 Minutes at 300W
    APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 700

  • Recomended External HD FW800 with power-off/sleep feature

    Hi.
After "googling" some hours, I dont want to miss asking here before I spend more money, beacuse i could skip any model or so... Any recomendations (based on knowlage or experience) of brand/model to buy for an external HD with this kind of features:
    - FireWire 800 port (does 800 give 400 compatibility?)
    - supports 1Tb or some more
    - power´s/off/on when I power-off/on my iMac, or if it sleeps.
-last, not so important but cool, could include some USB/firewire Hub feature too.
    thanx
    vcosta

I have to agree with the previous poster, the LaCie Quadra D2 are good drives. I have 3 (320, 500 & 750 GB) daisy chained together connected via FireWire 800 so far they are running fine. However others really like OWC Mercury series too. You can find those at:

  • Power consumption standby and turned off

    Hi there,
I tested the power consumption of my new Mac Pro with a watt meter while in standby mode and while turned off. In both tests I got nearly the same figures -around 35 watt.
Do you have these too or do I have a problem?
    Thanks guys,
    Mclane

In sleep my watt meter is reporting 3 watts.
If I have allow bluetooth device to wake up computer enabled in the bluetooth settings I the watt meter reports 5 watts during sleep.
    Not seeing anything when shutdown.
I have not got any usb or firewire devices connected.
Do you have any usb or firewire devices connected ?
According the the apple dev docs the Mac Pro provides power to the firewire ports during sleep and will also provide firewire power when shutdown if firewire devices were already connected.
