HT3622 Problem with iTunes recognizing 2 different iPod Nanos.

I have an original 2GB Nano Silver (2nd Gen), and recently acquired a new 16 GB Nano (6th Gen).  After using iTunes to install Playlists on the new 16 GB Nano, and accepting the software update for the iPod, it now refuses to recognize my old Nano. ITunes version listed is 10.1.  I tried a Reset Sync History.  Automatic sync is turned off.   No luck, still cannot see old Nano.  "Help" is utterly useless.

Problem was solved by resetting old Nano:

  • Sync problems with itunes and latest IPod nano

    Hello,
I have the latest IPod touch and later purchase the latest IPod Nano for GF. My problem is I can't sync itunes with Nano, my current itunes library is sync with my IPod touch.
How can we manage a reciprocity where itunes enables accessibility for Nano to sync with my itunes library has it does recognize my IPod Touch.
Hope you understand my problem, looking for your kind assistance.
    Thank you,
    Frank

There should be no problems connecting and syncing two different iPods with one iTunes library.  In fact there is NO limit to the number of iPads, iPhones, and iPods you can sync to one computer/iTunes library.
There are several ways to manage multiple devices with one library.  All of them are described in more detail in this Apple support document.

  • Problems with itunes 8 and ipod shuffle gen 2.

Problems with itunes 8 and ipod shuffle gen 2.
I recently upgraded from itunes 7 to itunes 8 on my windows XP PC. That's when i had issues syncing my 2nd gen shuffle.
When i try to drag songs directly on it, itunes says i can't
I made a playlist and use auto fill. But when I remove it from the dock, it's either not updated, or the new songs are at the bottom of the playlist when they are supposed to be up higher. I end up having to hit auto fill twice to make it sync correctly.
    Computer Specs
    Windows XP SP3
384MB of Ram (works really good)
    USB 1.1 connection
Pentium 4 clocked at 1.285 GHZ
    IPOD Shuffle Specs
    2nd Generation
    1GB (964MB)
    Version 1.0.4
unchecked options: open itunes when ipod is attached, Sync only checked songs, convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC, Enable sound check, Limit MAX volume, enable disk use
All those are NOT checked. Sometimes i enable disk use for seeing the IPOD_Control folder, but either way it still messes up.
    Itunes Specs:
    Version 8.1.1.10

This is a well-known issue. Apple changed the internal file names used with iTunes 8, which makes the ordering on 2nd generation Shuffles behave differently. There is no good workaround, apart from moving the files with a hand-crafted AppleScript program.
Apple has been silent on the issue, so nobody knows if we'll ever have a fix for it or not.

  • Problems with iTunes recognizing iPod

Alright, I had an iPod nano and installed the software, but then realized I didn't have Service Pack 2 and decided to install a fresh copy of XP Pro w/ SP 2. I decided to return the nano and get the 5G iPod and I have installed that software with my new copy of XP. Windows recognizes that the iPod is connected, but iTunes doesn't. I've tried pretty much everything on the support page about this problem to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't installed the audio driver for my audio card yet, but that shouldn't make a difference, should it?

If it helps, when I was installing the Nano, it asked me to connect it to see if it needed to be formatted. When I installed the 5G, it did not ask me this and I did not have the iPod connected during the install.

As you can see, there are many problems here. Quicktime is apprently unavailable, when it's installed. iTunes doesn't recognize me as an administrator, when the account is indeed an admin (and can perform administrative actions).
Connection to the iTunes store is unsuccessful, when iTunes is enabled in the windows firewall. All the services iTunes needs to run, are running successfully. The sole exception being Bonjour, which iTunes doesn't seem to realize is running. I've verified the service to be running, and have restarted it. Additionally, mDNSresponder.exe is not running under task manager. Manually starting it from Bonjour's file directory doesn't work, either. I've changed my "hosts" file, and still no luck. I've also changed a couple of Internet Explorer internet properties, and the unsuccessful connectivity doesn't change. I've reinstalled the whole line of Apple software, without a change in results. Reboots are just as unsuccessful.
Ultimately, my problem is neither iTunes nor Windows recognizes my iPod Touch, whereas my old Nano used to work fine. On other computers, iTunes is fine. The problem is on this one, and whether it's an Apple or Windows problem, I don't know. Hopefully someone here can help me out, as I would be immensely appreciative.

    One step forward?
I'd like to doublecheck something you mentioned earlier:
I've verified the service to be running, and have restarted it. Additionally, mDNSresponder.exe is not running under task manager.
When you were in the processes tab, did you have "Show processes from all users" checked, as per the following screenshot? (mDNSresponder.exe runs under SYSTEM, so you don't see it in there unless that box is checked.)

  • Problems with Itunes recognizing ITouch

I have tried about everything and I’m at point where I’m going to return my Itouch.
My computer has XP Pro and it recognized the Itouch when connected it. But I tunes doesn’t recognized it at all. I have been on the phone with Apple for over 4 hours; transfer me to a product specialist who had no idea. Now my case has been forward to engineering over a week ago and no answer yet.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you,

I am having the EXACT same issue. It's really infuriating. You say the problem may be the drivers? Could you let me know if that fixed your problem and if so, how you do it?

  • Problems with iTunes and my iPod

When I plug my iPod into my computer, iTunes doesn't automatically load like it used to. Instead, I have to manually open iTunes myself. And when I double click for iTunes to open, I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
So I clicked OK, and after that iTunes opened by my iPod didn't show up. I tried reinstalling iTunes, but it hasn't worked.
It also won't charge when plugged into the USB.
    WHAT do I do?

It would be nice to get some help around here. Isn't
that what this place is for?
Just so you know, for future reference, this is a user-to-user board . . . nobody on here is paid to help, and generally, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Hope you got your issue worked out.

  • Is anybody else having problems with itunes (10.6.3.25) and ipod touch (5.1.1)?

Lately I've been having a ton of problems with iTunes and my iPod Touch (4th generation). Lots of error messages such as can't connect to itunes store, incompatible application, ipod detected but not identifiable, invalid response received from device, unknown errors [mostly (0xE8000001)], problem with audio configuration, etc. I've done everything I could think of. Uninstalling iTunes (with all the components) then reinstalling with the newest version (10.6.3.25), running diagnostics and such. If it does appear (about 2% of the time) then iTunes freezes and/or it won't sync. I also try to change some info (song title, artist, artwork, etc)(when it DOES come up) and it shows up on itunes but not on my ipod. My ipod appears on my computer but not in iTunes under devices like its supposed to. I've been to all the support threads I can possibly find and NOTHING has helped. I also had the latest version for the ipod touch (5.1.1). And I've never had any issues with iTunes or my iPod touch before. I know I should probably try restoring my ipod but I absolutely do not want to do that unless I have to because i have a lot of music, apps, movies, etc I'm not able to back up. Also, I'm using a Windows 7 computer. Please Please help if you can, I am frustrated because I can't do anything.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

    Hi kumaradevan.g,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue syncing music to your iPod from a specific laptop. The article linked below provides a lot of great tips that can help resolve the syncing issue that you described.
'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPod or 'Firmware update failure' error when updating or restoring…
