HT3669 HP Officejet Pro 8500 Print to Fax with Mountin Lion

Does anyone know how to install the Fax Printer for an HP Officejet Pro 8500 to work with Mountain Lion? HP website says it's in Mountain Lion. Apple Support says its not, but it is a known problem and that HP has the fix. HP Yech Support reads tje website to you, then tells you to delete all the printer on your system and sart over. Standard HP.

That same article mentions there is also a Fax driver available for the A909g and A909n.

If you delete the FAX oru=inter then try to add it to force a new driver selection, there is no Fax printer that appears for the HP Office Jet 8500 -- only the Printer.
Never had a HP, but with my Canon device that supports Faxing from OS X, you see multiple entries in the Default view of the Add printer window. One for printing, one for scanning and one for faxing. When you select the entry showing Fax in the Kind column, the supporting fax driver is selected.

  • Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

    Hello everybody,
the printer HP Officejet Pro all-in-one 8500 (A909a - product n. CB022A) cleans printheads every time I turn it on. This problem affects any HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer, it isn't a problem only of that one I purchased. It is an annoying and irritating bug because the printheads cleaning at each power on implies two bad disadvantages:
    ink waste (each printheads cleaning process consumes some ink);
too much time (2-3 minutes) to get the printer ready after power on.
I upgraded my printer with the last firmware available on the HP site (firmware ver. DLM1FN1006BR) but the bug is still present.
    At this point I ask:
there exists a way (or procedure) to disable this unnecessary automatic cleaning at every power on?
Can someone contact HP engineers or tell me how contact directly one of them to indicate the bug and ask a new firmware update?
Please don't tell me to leave the printer turned on all the time or that the printheads cleaning at every power on is a normal behavior! Where is then power and ink saving claimed for this printer model?
I hope to receive a solution for this problem. Thanks in advance to everybody will help me!
    This question was solved.

The servicing when the printer is turned on is normal and is required to keep the printheads healthy (not clogged). See here for information.
As for power savings, the printer will automatically go into a low power mode when not printing for some time.  It is not necessary to turn the product off and on to save power.

  • How do I set up wireless printing of my Officejet Pro 8500 on a laptop with Windows 8?

How do I set up wireless printing from my all in one Officejet Pro 8500 printer to my laptop with Windows 8?

You can set up your printer for wireless pretty easily if you have the Full Feature Software installed on your computer for your printer.  The setup is done as part of the installation.
Read through below, then select how you wish to proceed.  There is a video to assist - see below!
                                                               Install Printer Driver / Software
If your printer stops working (and it’s not a hardware problem), it may be due to software or driver issues.  There are tools to help you diagnose the problem and help documents to guide you to success.
You might just desire extra features for your printer, or need extra tools to help with scheduled maintenance.
In many cases, you can (re)install the Full Feature Softwarefor your printer to enhance its capabilities.  The HP Solution Center is an integrated part of the FFS.  For e-print, you will want the e-print software.
If you have the CD that came with your printer, use that to install your Printer software  -- IF the CD is compatible with your current Operating System.  If you do not have the CD, or if the software on the CD is outdated, then you can use the online installation tools.
(Re)install the basic driver or HP Printer Full Feature Software or other software for your printer:
Drivers control hardware connected to the computer (wired or wireless)
Software controls the programs that interact with the User
Go to the top of the forum page to Support and Drivers
     Officejet Pro 8500 Series
Enter your Printer Model information, and then go to Software and Drivers...
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu...  Click NEXT and Scroll down
Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
Select the appropriate Basic Driver, e-print, or Full Feature Software, as appropriate
NOTE:  You may also wish to download the Print and Scan Doctor and / or other Tools from Category - Utilities
Save the *.exe installation package(s) on your computer
Pay attention to the name and the location of the file(s) when you save the file(s).  The file(s) will likely save to the "Downloads “folder.
You may remove your existing printer software with the following tool.  Fixit is of particular use when the existing printer software is being replaced due to severe problems with the printing program.
Fixit -- Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled
NOTE:  If you have a recent working version of the Full Feature Software on your computer, you may opt to skip removing the existing printer software in the above separate step.  During installation of your Full Feature Software, when the installer package detects the “old” printer software on your computer, the program will ask you to remove that old software:  The program will then invoke an internal printer software removal program that is written to remove printer software.  Once most of the old printer software is removed, you will be asked to Reboot your computer and log back in.  After you log in, the final bits of the old printer program(s) are deleted and the new software will be installed.  Depending on your system, the whole uninstall and install process might take as much as eight to twelve minutes.
Remember to Install the programs from Category Utilities first, if applicable, as these are smaller in size.
Install the downloaded Printer Software package last.
If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
    NOTES:
If using: Download and install the driver software before connecting a USB cable.
After the initial installation is complete, be sure to check for and install any relevant updates  - check Category  - Update.  The Updates are important and can mean the difference between software that works as expected and software that does not work.
You may also wish to check for a Category named Firmware.  Installation of any package in this Catagory is personal choice and must be based on the contents in the package and whether or not your printer is working as expected.

  • Epson Workforce 500 and HP  OfficeJet Pro 8500 - "Printer Offline"

This week I downloaded an Epson printer driver update from Apple's Software Update. I use an Epson Workforce 500 with my Mac Mini computer at my office. Since installing Snow Leopard originally I had experienced no problems with the printer but assumed that if Apple was telling me to install a driver update, I should do so. Big mistake!
After installing the driver update I was unable to print anything. When attempting to print a page from Safari or MIcrosoft Word, everything initially seemed ok, until I saw my printer icon bouncing in the Dock with a yellow symbol indicating "Printer Offline." After searching the Apple site and various discussion boards I spent an entire afternoon attempting all of the recommended fixes with no results. Since I cannot operate my business without a printer, I decided to simply purchase a new printer hoping that this was simply an Epson problem.
I am now the proud owner of an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One. Unfortunately I am still suffering from the "Printer Offline" message whenever I attempt to print anything. After spending another afternoon on the phone with a tech support person from HP, I am still unable to print. I have done all of the following:
Disconnected and reconnected all cables between the computer and the printer.
Switched the USB cable to a different USB port on the computer.
Restarted the computer and the printer.
Unplugged and replugged the computer to reset it.
Checked to confirm that the printer does show up under USB on the System Profiler.
Deleted any old print jobs in the print queue and made certain that the printer was not in pause mode.
Tried to print from various programs with the same result.
Although this printer does appear in the printer list, deleted it and then added it again under the Printer and Fax area of System Preferences.
Uninstalled the HP printer driver, restarted the computer, downloaded HP's latest driver for this computer from their website under the instruction of HP's tech support person and reinstalled this driver and again performing all of the above.
    Repaired disk permissions several times.
Reset the printing system under the Printer and Fax area of System Preferences.
I have been unable to find any further possible fixes in any of the discussion boards either on the Apple or the HP site. After doing everything listed here the HP tech support person felt that the problem must be with Apple rather than HP since the problem developed initially after the Epson printer update and then occurred with both the Epson and the HP printers.
I have an appointment later today with an Apple Genius at my local Apple store to see if I can get any advice. Any suggestions from anyone on this board would be greatly appreciated since I do need my printer to carry on in my business. At this point I am desperate to the point of considering the replacement of my computer but am hesitant to do so suspecting that the new models should be released soon.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try downloading and installing the 10.6.1 combo update. It's OK to do this even though you are already running 10.6.1. One of the "fixes" .. "some printer compatibility drivers not appearing properly in the add printer browser"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL930
Make sure and repair disk permissions after the installation.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Always make sure your Mac has sufficient disk space available.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Prints Pink VS Red

My HP Officejet Pro 8500 is printing pink instead of red.  I have replaced all ink cartridges even though ink levels were not low.  I have had this printer for several years and not had this problem unless cartridges needed replacing.  I have run tests on the printer - no streaks or lines, just no red or yellow or green on test page (pattern is: 1st set black/grey, 2nd set blue, 3rd set pink, 4th set pink, 5th set blue).  I have searched online for solutions and nothing has worked.  I can't find the printhead for additional cleaning/replacement.  Help!

Your printer is not properly printing yellow.  (Red = magenta + yellow, green = cyan + yellow)

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Printer forcing a preview page before printing

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 (my computer is Windows 7 home premium) and it worked great until a couple weeks ago, perhaps as result of my computer upgrading itself to IE 9, but I don't know.
Suddenly it started forcing open a Preview Page, making me wait (sometimes very long times) for the preview window to open, and then I had to click once again to actually start the printer. It is very annoying to have to wait endlessly for the window to open up, and then it's another click to actually start.  It is wasting a lot of time and making the whole process much more cumbersome and tedious.
How can I go back to my printer starting immediately without all these in-between steps?

Hi there sorry to learn that you are facing this problem.
Are you still facing this issue? If you are I will do my best to help you.
Have you upgraded the firmware of your printer lately; you can get the latest firmware in the main support page for your printer
This is the main support page for your printer,  GO HERE Go to software and drivers download and select your operating system. You should also upgrade the firmware of the printer.
If you are not experiencing this issue any longer,  May you let me know, your time and courtesy, will be deeply appreciated.

  • HP OFFICEJET PRO 8500 PRINTER - new printhead installed - "checking device" won't shut off.

My  magenta  cartridge was not printing. All I got  on the printed sheets was red ,yellow and pink colors. I  replaced the magenta cartridge and the same thing happened. I then replaced to  ccyan cartridge with the same results.  I searched the tutotials and installed a new magenta/cyan printhead.
Now the "checking device" message  won't go off. After about an hour I tried to turn the printer off and received the message that  the mechanical operations coud not be turned off.
After another hour I just unplugged the printer.

    Hello kenishal,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Sorry to hear that the Officejet Pro 8500 is not printing its colors correctly, usually this type of issue is resolved by replacing the printhead. Hopefully we can get the printer past "checking device" to see if it has resolved the problem.
You can try removing and installing the printheads and the cartridges again, here is a walk through guide: 'Initializing' Displays on the All-in-One for Longer Than Expected During Setup.
If that helps get the printer to finish "checking device" and you are still having the missing or incorrect color issue, take a look through this support page: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality.
Let me know if those suggestions have helped.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 prints only red

In the middle of a job, my Officejet Pro 8500 wireless all-in-one printer started printing only red. Now it does this every time, No cartridges are empty. Test pages are OK, but pages sent from websites, e-mails, etc, are just red. Any ideas?

  • Officejet pro 8500 printer carriage does not go to the left to reset

I have a 4 yr old Oficejet pro 8500 - I want to change the print heads as its not printing color properly.  But I cant move the carraige over to the left.  Not by turning it on or off, or holding the @star 'ok' key.  Is the machine passed its sell by date?

Hi , I see you are trying to remove your printheads and I think I may be able to help.
Here is a document on how to Replace the Printhead for HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer Series (A909) - the key to this, is that the printer needs to be powered on. If it still won't cooperate, you might have to do a hard reset. To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the back of the printer. While it is unplugged, you can hold down the power button on the printer for about 10-15 seconds to release any built up power. Then plug the printer back in. Retry the steps listed in the document to move the carriage over.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks,

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 wireless a909g scan with Windows 7

I have been using HP officejet pro 8500 a909g wireless with windows xp with no problems scanning.  I got a laptop with windows 7 64 bit and cannot scan to the computer from the solution center software on the computer or from the display on the unit like I used to be able to do.  When I try to scan, it says that it is scanning and then quits after a short time.  Nothing happens with the scanner.  The Solution Center also sees the document is loaded.  I have tried the scanning software program to see if something is wrong but it says all is fine.  What do I need to do?

There is a way to launch the scan application directly.
Go to c:\program files\hp\digital imaging\bin and double click on hpiscnapp.exe
See if you are able to complete a scan this way
    If that doesn't work,
    Rename the twain folder:
Navigate to C:\Windows and double click on it
Scroll down to the twain_32 folder, and rename the folder twain_32 old .
Then, Delete the whole Digital Imaging folder in the program files above and then do an install/reinstall which will repopulate the folder. NOTE: If you have multiple HP imaging devices (other printers, scanner, or cameras) Do not delete the Digital Imaging folder or you will need to reinstall those items.

  • Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: Ink is vanished without any prints due to cleanups.

    Hello everybody,
The printer HP Officejet Pro all-in-one 8500A A910 cleans printheads every time I turn it on. printer was updated with the lastet driver but my yellow, cyan, magenta inks gets vansihed without taking any colour prints.I take only BLACK prints(less than 500) and do scans.
This is worse printer i have ever used. It is using inks while clean up at startup or in between.Frustating thing is that It is using ink even during SCANS. Now, i really doubt the intellegence of designers of hp to such a big BUG.
Please update the driver so that during startup it will ask for SCAN or Print OR Clean the printheads when first print is given and addition to optimise the cleanups.
Hoping to get some solution form HP.

    Hi arr_8500,
I understand you have an Officejet 8500 A910 that is running the clean printhead function each time you turn it on. I will do my best to assist you with this.
The reason the printer keeps running the clean printhead function is self maintenance. The printer is detecting an issue, so it will continue to run the clean printhead function until it's not detecting an issue. I would suggest you follow through this Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems to help clean out any ink build up and things like that. I'd also recommend that you manually clean your printheads to remove any build up there as well.
Finally, it's best to have your printer plugged directly to a wall outlet. If it's not already in one, please move it.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Re: Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

I own two of these printers and they both have been cleaning printheads every time it's turned on. My old HP officejet never had  these problems.
The real problem is HP s   credibility . They promoted that these printers used half the ink as any other printer.  Even consumerreports showed 1/2  the cost per page.
As we all know that is pure BS  notwithstanding  the cleaning printheads issues.
Maybe I will let Costco know that I and all owners are unhappy and see if they will refund. They still sell them .
I will repost if I have any success.

If the printer is a year or couple yrs old, maybe the printheads need to be replaced? I once thought they would last forever, and that's really not the case with them, nor anything else really. Hope costco has some good news for you

All of a sudden my printed documents are printing using the incorrect colours - photos are 'greyish' (with muted colours); reds print as browny, etc.  We always use genuine HP inks and documents previously printed fine from a colour perspective.  When I 'align' the printheads, the page that prints out show black, blue and pink are fine but the red and green look all wrong.  All inks are in place and none are low.
