Dont install Quicktime from the OS install discs.
Download the most up to date Quicktime Player 7 from here: Download QT 7
You dont need QT Pro to play any video files that Player can run. QT Pro is used to edit and export files in different CODECS. However, it wont harm the installation if you upgrade to pro by entering the registration code.

I tried to download the latest version, and an icon popped up, which I dragged into the Firefox icon at the bottom of the screen, but another firefox icon appeared on the screen (it says 1 of 2 selected, Zero KB available) and when I tried to also drag that into the Firefox icon at the bottom of the screen, it wouldn't move into it.

Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -
It just locks by computer up and I have to do control/alt/delete to get it to go away. Any help?
even in safemode? when does the hang occur - just when you visit the site/when you attempt to hit the download link/when the download job is close to finishing & what kind of security software is running on your computer?
you might also want to just try using IE or another browser for this one download to avoid all the hassle... -

well i kinda fixed it i spose...
i deleted everything in appdata under mozilla & macromedia and deleted the plugins folder from my installation folder for ff3. uninstalled ff3, reinstalled ff3. now everything works fine. just have to redo my bookmarks & settings.

Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START > ALL PROGRAMS > Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
START > CONTROL PANEL/ > Add n Remove Programs, highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR -

I did once but I had to install a "Clean Install" of my computer and when finished I had put back the new Flash Player I just installed well every time I try install the new player it is place in my Trash Folder and I can not get Player to work. I'm trying to download the trial version of Adobe Illustrator. An error message says that the OS does not meet the minimum system requirements for the installer. 10.6.0 is the minimum required for installation. How do I get my mac to be a 10.6.0 ? Right now I have a 10.5.8 is there a way to upgrade or something?
Buy the Snow Leopard retail installer (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA).
That will take you to 10.6.3.
If required you can then use the combo updater to get to the latest version, 10.6.8 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399)

Keep trying or maybe try again later. There are millions of people who are currently trying to do the same thing you're doing. Just be patient and you will be able to update, this happens on launch day. Just curious.....what was the error
