    For days now I've been getting a message dialog whenever I try to make purchases. It says:
    "The Itunes Store is unable to process purchases at this time." and,
    "Credit card processing is temporarily unavailable. You may continue to browse the store. Please try to make your purchase later."
    It matters not whether I use paypal or any credit card. And I am definitely connected to the internet.
    Why is this happening? Does Apple not want my hard-earned money anymore for their DRM-laden media?
    Also, I have iTunes on 2 computers. One is version 6 and the other is version 7. Neither work.
    HELP!

    Yes it's been a week and still this does not work.
    The method of payment I choose does not matter. All fail.
    I just have this fear that Apple is going to respond with a bland, "Everything's fine. Call your ISP."

    I have the exact same problem.  I just updated to 4.3.3 and now my inline controls on my earphones don't work.  The earphones work, but the controls don't.  It doesn't even recognize that there is a mic attached.  Even with the earphones in it still uses the built in mic. Why did my controls stop working?!

    If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then the steps half-way down this page should let you reset them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
    If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

    It's not obsolete as much as the first gen simply lacks the power to run the newer operating systems. IT doesn't have enough RAM. If someone managed to hack it to get iOS 6 or 7 on there they'd just have a slow, boggy and unresponsive device. (think putting windows 7 on an old laptop.
    Unfortunately software moves faster than hardware. Every thing goes obsolete. I've had my ipad 2 for two and a half years now and I know it only has so much longer left to it too. Just the 'joys' of advancing technology.

    To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
    The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer. 
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
