HT3728 change time capsule password

I want to change my time capsule password, since it's too simple.

Recently, Apple has been using the same password for both the base station and wireless, but if you only want to allow other users to use the wireless.....and not be able to change any of the settings on the Time Capsule.......then you would need to use a separate password for the base station and a separate password for the wireless.
On your Mac.....
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
To change the Base Station Password, click on the Base Station tab at the top of the window and edit the Base Station Password, then enter again to Verify.
Then, click on the Wireless tab.  If you want to use same password as the Base Station, enter the same password and verify.  If you want to use a separate wireless password, then enter the password that you want to use in the Wireless Password and Verify.
Then, click Update at the lower right of the window and allow a minute for the Time Capsule to restart with the new settings.

  • HT3728 Reset Time Capsule password.

Must I reset Time Capsule in order to change my password?  (I have *not* forgotten my password; I simply want to change it.)
    Thanks.

    A) how long the password lenght it is avaiable for this time capsule
WPA uses either a passphrase (shared secret) that is comprised of 8 to 63 characters or a fixed-length of 64 Hex characters. These can include special characters and spaces.
    B) how to reset the time capsule
Please review the following Apple Support article for how to reset your Time Capsule.
    C) how to change the ssid
You would change the SSID, what Apple calls the Wireless Network Name, by using the AirPort Utility, as follows:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select your Time Capsule, and then, select Edit.
    Select the Network tab.
Enter the desired name (SSID) in the Wireless Network Name field.
Select Update, and then, allow the Time Capsule to restart.

I have a new Macbook pro and can't recall the password I used with my Time capsule - How can I (ideally) retrieve or possibly change the time capsule password?

Remember security on a TC is an illusion.
Simply press the reset button for 1-2 sec.. you must not do too long .. it will then hard reset.. but soft reset will revert all passwords to default for 5min. ie TC password is now public.
Remember this the next time because anybody at all can change your passwords.
Once into the TC you can then open the view passwords if you wanted any weaker security. Click and open the TC.. and click on edit.. then go to the top menu..
Voila .. all your passwords in plain sight to any Tom Dick and Fred.

  • Retrieve time capsule password

I forgot my time capsule password. How can I retrieve it?

If you selected the option to have KeyChain Access remember your password, you can retrieve it as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Select either your Time Capsule AirPort Base Station listing or the AirPort Network Password, depending on which password you need.
    Double click the entry
Enter a check mark in the Show Password box and then enter your main administrator password for the Mac
    Your password will be revealed
An alternate plan to using Keychain Access would be to perform a Soft Reset. See the document below for details

  • Forgot my Time Capsule password.

I forgot my Time Capsule password--or rather, I am trying to enter the password that aI estblished (which I wrote down!!!) but it seems not to be working. I have tried to follow the instructions for a soft reset (i.e., hold in the reset button for one second) but then I get lost. The only directions that I seem to be able to find after that is that you should somehow "magically" be able to reset the password within 5 seconds of hitting the reset button--but I don't seem to be able to make this work. Can someone possibly provide REALLY REALLY step by step procedures (i.e. like you are talking to a three year old or a Golden Retriever) so that I can access my Time Capsule?
    Thanks : )

I guess our first question is .. which password are you talking about.
    There are several.
    1. Device Password.
    2. Disk Password
    3. Wireless Password.
    4. User Password.
    5. Guest Password.
If you are trying to access it by wireless.. it really matters that you do it right.
So I also want to know what OS your running on the computer.
Are you using ethernet or wireless?
What model is the TC? A1xxx from the base please.
Is the LED green? When you press reset for 1sec does the LED start flashing amber?? If not you have not pressed it long enough.. when they say 1sec.. what they mean is 1-5 sec.. just not long enough for a hard reset.
Can you plug in by ethernet?? It is much easier to reconfigure the thing if you simply take your laptop to the TC and plug in by ethernet.
Here are the full details, step by step to reset a TC.. assuming Mavericks and assuming you connect by ethernet.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5800974?tstart=0
In your case you can avoid the full factory reset and just do the soft reset.. although in the end.. a full factory is maybe needed. Especially if the network has changed since you last set it up.
With Mavericks.. it has network issues aplenty.. so using the SMB names really helps.
As does a reboot before you start fiddling.

  • Problem with Time Capsule password

    Hi everybody.
I have a Time Capsule and I'm trying to perform the backup of my system with Time Machine. I have replaced my old Airport Extreme base with Time Capsule and I've configured everything so that the solid green light is turned on. Now I have my Time Capsule as an Airport Base and Internet is working properly.
Once I'm opening Time Machine, it asks me what drive I want to use for backup. I choose Time Capsule and then it's asking me an username and a password.
Please, could anyone tell me what username and password I have to write? I'm trying with my administrator one but it doesn't work. I looked everywhere but I'm not able to find the right UN and PW!
    Please, help!
    Thanks
    Matteo

Matteo, you might have chosen to secure your disk with accounts rather than a password. To check this, go into the Airport Utility and double click Time Capsule on the left to enter manual setup, then click the disks icon on the top. Choose the file sharing tab and make sure "enable file sharing" is checked, then see if you have it set to "secure shared disks..." with Time Capsule password, rather than with accounts.
Be warned: if you change this setting, you will lose access to any files already on Time Capsule.

  • Lion forgets time capsule password

    Hi,
being a user of time capsule i have recently switched from file sharing with time capsule password to file sharing with user accounts  (on the time capsule). Generally speaking it works quite well, however, when connecting to the time capsule, Lion always try use the old credentials, i always have to enter user account and password manually to get it working, even when i choose the option to save this information to the keyring, Lion still tries to connect using the old(wrong) credentials. I have not found a solution yet, any suggestions?
    greetings
    michael

There is no reset.. soft hard or factory that will affect data on the hard disk.

  • Help!! My Macbook crashed and I can remember my time capsule password.

I have a 2007 macbook. Today when I went to use not it was turned off. When turned on it loaded a language page. After selecting English it loaded Mac OS X utilities that gives 4 options: restore from time capsule, Reinstall Mac OS X, get help online, ad disk utility. I tried tore store from time capsule, but I cannot remembrr my password. What should I do! Can I reset password with out access to my computer or can I reinstall OS x then reset time capsule password and restore from Time capsule. I don't want to lose everything on my computer.

You can't open your site in iWeb unless you have a backup copy of the domain file.
You can get some help here....
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
If its any consolation, I had two crashes before I invested in 2 external firewire drives which have a complete bootable backup of everything on my Mac plus a third drive with Time Machine.

  • AirPort Utility allows changing Time Capsule disk password with a device password only

    Hello!
I just noticed that changing disk password is allowed for anyone who has a Time Capsule device password. (AirPort Utility WIndows version)
    I find that illogical.
Is it a kind of bug or it is intended to be this way?

Well, lets say that you had friends or other family members that use the Time Capsule for wireless connections.
And, you have files on the Time Capsule drive that you only want to share with one other person. If you use a disk password, only the person with the disk password will be able to see the files on the drive.
If you don't set up a disk password, then anyone who is using the Time Capsule wireless will be able to see the files on the drive.
So, if you want everyone to have access to the files on the drive, then use the device password.
If you do not want everyone to have access to the files on the drive, then use a disk password

  • HT3728 My Time Capsule light keep changing to yellow/Amber

How do I fix a problem when my time capule light keep changing to yellow/amber

You will need a better utility for troubleshooting and future configuration needs, so please download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
Keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and AirPort Utility 6.x on your Mac
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6
Click on the Time Capsule to highlight it, then click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and another window will open with details about why the amber light is blinking.
It might be something as simple as a message that an update is available for your Time Capsule
If it is something else, what does the message say?

    1) are you sure a reset holding the reset button will not delete my data?
Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

  • Reset Time Capsule Password - Will No Longer Back Up

    Any help greatly appreciated.
I changed my TC password and now the machine will no longer back up information.
If anyone has experienced this issue, advice would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Your post did not indicate whether or not you were trying to backup to the Time Capsule using Time Machine. Is that the case?
If so, please try the following:
Open Hard Drive > Library > Preferences
    Delete the "com.apple.TimeMachine.plist" file
    Restart your computer
Click System Preferences on the dock and then click Time Machine
Setup Time Machine again and try to backup

  • Forgot Time Capsule Password Can't access it

    Hi There,
this must be a no brainer, but I've made a mistake assuming I had the correct password for my TC.
I've erase the disc of my 24'' in order to sell the machine, bought a new 27'' and when I tried to access Time Capsule to retrieve all of my stuff the password is wrong, I might had change it some years ago and din't take the note at the time.
      What should I do?
    thanks in advance
      Dip

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your answer, I've followed the process and when trying to access to the backup data through Time machine I end up with an error code - 6584.
I don't know what that means, as indicated I've change the password to access the base station and kept the network password just in case, after click update and wait a few moments green lights comming up again.
Also when I click to select a disk on time machine preferences there is 1 more, the backup disk and the available disk which they have the same name, and then the other time capsule not listed here.
What should be my next steps, I'm getting worried now because all my actual work is on that backup disk and looks like I've lost it
again thnaks in advance for your help

  • Resetting Time Capsule password remotely

JUst got my MacBook Pro back from Apple repair & it's been reset to factory settings. Trying to transfer my info back onto it from Time Machine  says I need to enter my password for the Time Capsule server. The password I have isn't working and all the info I can find on retrieving/resetting the password says to soft reset the Time Machine, but that doesn't help me since I need my laptop to then change its settings (which I can't usesince it hasn't been set up yet). Argh. Any way I can change the password from my iPad while it's in soft reset Mode? I'I'm kind of stuck otherwise. Thanks!

Download the AirPort Utility App to your iPad and try that.
