HT3728 changing security settings time capsule

How do I change security setting on my Time Capsule WiFi?

Changing security settings on the Time Capsule Wi-Fi will lower the level of security.
If this is what you want to do...and assuming that your Mac is running Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utillity
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the small window
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Wireless Security settings can be adjusted here
Click Update to save any changes

  • Windows 2008 R2, Internet Information Services: Changing security settings to change a folder's content by using PHP

    Hello,
I would like to ask if somebody's there who could help me:
I am a PHP developer from Stuttgart, Germany.
In my PHP web application I want to edit text files by using PHP code.
These files are created once (by me), so they exist before the PHP application is used by any web user.
My PHP code reads out some text files and other text files' contents are changed.
In my developer's environment (Windows XP, XAMPP) it works fine.
So I'm sure my code is OK.
But the productive system ist a windows server system (Windows 2008 R2 and Internet Information Services).
And here it doesn't work! The text files' contents aren't changed.
I know on windows based webserver systems I have to change the folders security settings
(what I mean: the folders where the text files are placed). I must give the IIS system user (in the past it's name was IUSR..., now it is named otherwise) additional rights, so that it can change folders content.
I did. But it doesn't work.
Some years ago when we used Windows Server 2003 that was the solution that worked.
Giving the IUSR right to change folders content. That was it.
But what is new in Windows Server 2008 that it doesn't work?
I think it must be very complicated. Could somebody help me?
    Thanks
    Tommy

  • How to change password on time capsule

How to change password on time capsule?

The Time Capsule has two passwords.....a device password and a wireless network password.
Which password are you referring to here?
In order to provide detailed step by step instructions for how to change the password, we will need for you to also post back to let us know what type of operating system....Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard, etc, that you are using on your Mac.

  • Changed security settings resulted in amber light

Just changed security settings on my AirPort Extreme from WEP to WPA2 because I didn't need to use weak security anymore as my old notebook (not supporting WPA) recently retired.
No problem joining wireless network with my MacBook Pro, but my AirPort Express plugged to my audio system in living room starter blinking amber.
Nothing works - did reset, tried to find it from both, my desktop wired to AP Extreme and from MacBook in living room. None wants to see AP Express anymore, not setup assistant and not admin utility.
    Desperately need some good ideas.

Had to do hard reset and finally it started to be seen and I was able to set it up again.
But later when restarting my MacBook Pro another problem - MBP doesn't want to automatically join the preferred network like it used to. I need to turn build-in airport off, turn it on and manually join network.
This drives me nuts for pas hour and nothing works. Need ideas, please.

  • I want to secure a time capsule in a metal strong box....

I want to secure a time capsule in a metal strong box bolted to the floor. Does the TC require airflow or can it be sealed up? Anyone know how this would affect the wifi reception?

A polymer cage.. plastic.. some plastics are wifi transparent.. usually the better engineering types, ABS, Polycarbonate, whereas some of the cheaper end polymers will actually absorb wifi or if the dye has metal fillers will reflect it. So picking the right plastic is essential.. but the security of a plastic box?? One decent kick with your foot... what will happen to it. Aren't you announcing to a potential thief.. here is something of value.. look under me. and the ugly nature of the thing.. ugly man..
The best place for the TC is hidden if it is security you want.. figure out a place where it is simply not obvious. At some distance from the computer.. top of some bookshelves.. for instance. Thieves are generally after known items of value.. not every litte thing.

Do I really need to set security for my wireless connection. I searched for available WiFi in my area prior to installing my  network and none were available. Does that matter?
The network never did function right from the start. My desktop is a Dell Inspiron 510n and is not wireless capable? So when I tried to add my HP mni 1000 it did not let me access the Internet.
So now I have an unsecured network. Am I vulnerable to attack?
Which leads me to my real question How do I change the security settings?
Oh yeah, my home computer crashed due to a program I downloaded, so I do not have access to it. i'm a mess....
    Thanks,for any help

  • Best way to secure a Time Capsule and it's files for a house rental.

We're renting our house and have a time capsule that we use for backing up our MacBooks and for our network. We'd like to keep the network available to our renters (as well as the airplay speakers on a couple different APExpress's if possible.)  Any suggestions on a set up that would give us a bit of peace of mind regarding our data safety?
    Thank you!
    J

    Thanks Bob,
I will go that route then. Attached below is screenshot of my current setup. I plan to swap the Extreme with the Time Capsule so that it would be in a deadbolted/secure room.  Those two are currently connected with Ethernet cable (CAT6) to improve the network's stability. Could I keep the Extreme and TC hardwired this way or would it compromise things? Any other network settings I should make sure are in place other than the separate admin and wireless passwords?
    Thanks again!

  • Changed Security settings, now cannot connect

    Hi,
I was trying to increase my security settings on my WRT54G v. 8 and somehow have messed up my connection. I updated the MAC settings so that only my computer has access, and I tried to change my WEP from 64 to 128 bit. I now realize I should just change it to WPA, since it is much more secure. Now my wireless is not working, saying limited or no connectivity because it couldn't assign a network address, I believe (It looks like I don't have an IP address??). When I use my wired internet and type in the default wireless IP address, it says that the connection is not valid or some such thing (sorry, I am not on my home computer now) and I cannot get in to change the settings again. Do I need to reset the router and reset all my settings? How can I reconcile new security settings with my computer? Thanks!

To set up wireless security, you must use a computer that is wired to the router.
Where to find the router settings: The router's login password is usually on one of the "Administration" pages. The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" or the "Security" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1
First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Next, leave the router at its default wireless settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.
To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.
Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:
WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best
WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password" ).
The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.
Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.
If you have trouble connecting, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network (this will remove any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should reconnect automatically (it can take up to two minutes).  If you still have trouble, temporarily turn off your computer software firewall.
And don't forget to give your router a new login password.
Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password, should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, or passphrase must not have any spaces in it.
Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minumum of 24 random characters.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. The patch is located in SP3, so you will need SP3 to run WPA2 in Win XP. Vista already supports WPA2.
    Note:
WEP is no longer recommended. The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet. Even a long random character password will not protect you with WEP. You should be using WPA or preferably WPA2 encryption.

  • Having trouble securing my Time Capsule wireless network

    Hi everyone,
I purchased the Time Capsule to use as my main source of wireless connection in my living room some few months back. Recently, I have noticed that my wireless network has been acting slower than usual, especially during peak hours. Popping open up system preferences showed me that my Apple wireless network was unsecured.
Several attempts of changing the WEP password and locking it proved unsuccessful, as I was able to detect the network on my mobile phone and on several laptops I have at home. Changing it to WPA and WPA2 also didn't fix this problem.
I just wanted to quickly ask if I am doing something wrong? Why am I still able to see my own wireless connection even if I am not using my own computer? (I tested the connectivity by using a seperate laptop I have and I STILL found the network as being unsecured on this laptop and both on my mobile).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why am I still able to see my own wireless connection even if I am not using my own computer?
By default, all wireless routers will broadcast their Network Names (SSID). However, in order to connect to ones that are secured, you would either have to enter the encryption key manually or it can be done automatically if stored in your Mac's Keychain.

  • With Endpoint Security VPN, Time Capsule cannot be accessed

I was able to use Time Capsule before I installed Endpoint Security VPN.
But once it's installed, I cannot access Time Capsule.
I booted AirMac utility and Time Capsule wasn't recognized.
If Endpoint Security VPN was removed, it was recognized.
I definitely need it when I connect my Mac to my corporate network.
I'm wondering if there's any way to use Time Capsule under such a circumstance.

I am totally guessing.. because you provide no details whatsoever..
The TC is plugged into your local network? Is it your main router or bridged?
Tell us as much as you can about the network setup.

The vpn client should be installed but the TC work when the vpn is not active.. that is a fairly standard thing.. you should not have to uninstall the client to access .. do you mean something different by install to actually installing the software??
As soon as the client is off the computer should revert to standard network gateway. Bring up the terminal and type ifconfig note the IP address. Ping the IP of the TC.
Now start the VPN.. do ifconfig again and ping the ip of the TC. The change of gateway will mess it up usually.. you can also do a traceroute to a location and see how that changes with vpn on or off.
When the vpn client is active there is usually an option to force all traffic through the tunnel.. that is often checked by default.. if so the computer will no longer have access to the TC as the gateway is now the remote endpoint.. check the details of the vpn client and see if there is an option to use local network and not force gateway change. Some security is compromised doing this so your corporate security might simply not allow it.
Ask the IT people in your company. They will probably be able to give instructions or tell you why it is not allowed.

  • How to Change Security Settings on an Existing Wireless Network

I'd like to change existing network security settings to WPA2, AES or at least to from TKIP to AES.
I'm familiar with browser access to the router and with how to change the settings on the router.
My question is how to do this as painlessly as possible for the network.  Step by step would be nice
I guess first I have to change the router settings using the computer running Easy Link Advisor?
Do I then have to disconnect/reconnect that computer?
Do I have to disconnect every other computer and then connect each one again with the updated settings?
Will the change in security settings affect my print server?  If so, do I have to set it up from scratch in ELA?
For the record, I have a WRT-300N and the print server is a 54g.
Anyone who reads this may also want to look into recent news.  May not be a big deal, but a vulnerability of WPA/TKIP has been identified.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

    Hi…
In order to change the wireless settings of your router you need to login into the router configuration page. Open your internet explorer browser…in the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 ( Default IP address). Leave the username field balnk……type admin as password (If you have not changed the router password). When the setup page loads fully…..click on the tab that says wireless. Just below the main tab wireless ….click on the sub tab that says wireless security. You can Change the wireless security settings here. After the changes are made click on save settings.

  • Can't change permission on Time Capsule files and folders

I am using my Time Capsule as a storage device that everyone on my network can access, and I also have a fairly small (~5000 songs) iTunes Library as well. This was all working fine, until I decided to try to get a second computer, beside my MacBook Pro (8,1) to connect to the iTunes Library. Suddenly strange things started happening, like the network dropping at seemingly completely random times, certain people being kicked of the network, etc. So then I thought "well maybe its because of the iTunes Library." So I did a 'Get Info' to the Library folder, named iTunes Library, and it showed this:
This didn't seem too strange, except for the (unknown) name. I then learned (http://pondini.org/TM/E10.html) that this may actually be causing the problem, so I hit the minus button while hovering over it, only to see this:
Now, as far as I can tell, this shouldn't be happening. So I tried it on many different computers (10.8.4, 10.6.8, 10.7.5, among others), and they all said this. Then, back on 10.8.4, I decided to try to add my name, even though it said that everyone can read and write, and it said this:
Now I knew this was strange, since it has never, ever happened to me since OS 7. What was also strange, instead of showing the usual selection window, it asked me to type in my username, like so:
This happened on every computer, and in every directory and every file (or at least the couple dozen I tried, including ones outside the Library folder that I had already changed permissions on before normally), so I knew something was definetly up. So of course, I turned to my friend, the Terminal. I tried doing sudo chmod 555, 755, 775, 777, and a+x, and none of them worked, again, on multiple different files and folders. Also, since I have connected the second conmputer to the Library, it seems as though the file iTunes Library.itl is no longer executable, because it looks like this:
Also, no one but me can connect to it anymore, even though they can all see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Sorry for the low-res images, Apple seems to have done something to them

Verify volume failed with error Could not unmount disk (-10000)
That could happen if there is another process that is presently accessing the volume.  I don't think it related to the volume having data corruption.  The fact that is it a "server" may be relevant.
In the time that you have had this problem, has it been shut down and restarted?
You can also try restarting it with the Shift key held down.  That should do a Safe Mode startup, if an Xserve acts like a regular Mac.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
The Safe Boot will do some maintenance and tests during startup, and start up with only essential proceses running.  Try accessing that folder now.  If you can access it, you should probably save it off on another volume, such as an external drive, so that you have a current backup.
Try running Repair Disk Permissions and Verify Disk again in Disk Utility.  Repair Disk Permissions will probably give you a lot of messages; they are usually just "informational" so don't be concerned.  However, if Verify Disk reports an error, that is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.
Edit:  If the volume being tested is NOT the startup disk, then Repair Disk Permissions will be disabled.  It only applies when there is a system installed on that volume.

  • How do I change security settings on items in Startup items folder in Library

I just installed pro tools TEN on my Mac OS X 10.6.8  -When I log in I get a pop up message that says items in the startup items folder in library won't open because of incorrect security settings.  Now it has given me separate pop up windows saying that those items have been disabled.
So my question is:  How do I "Fix" the security settings on the startup items folder so that these items are not disabled.  I don't need them to automatically open every time I log in, but they are obviously part of Pro Tools, and I need them so that Pro Tools performance is not affected.  The items are:
    DigiDesign Loader
    Pace Support
How do I Fix it so that they are not disabled, but that they only open when they need to open, and don't affect pro tools performance?
    Thanks for the help,
    Tristan

It could be that it Reader-enabled. Try: File > Save a Copy
If that's not it, post exactly what it shows for: File > Properties > Security > File Restrictions Summary
