HT3728 Express will not take software upgrade. Message says to install 5.6 and when I do it will not show, says not compatible with this version of Mac. 10.8 OS-X, why not?

Unable to update airport express. When connecting msg says to install 5.6, download and will not take install says it is not compatible.

This is a dilemma. Older Express models require AirPort Utility 5.6.1 or a similar, older version of AU. Mountain Lion will refuse to install it. What to do?
As it turns out AirPort Utility 5.6.1 runs perfectly fine on Mountain Lion. If you had the foresight to have archived it somewhere (such as with Time Machine or equivalent) you can simply copy the app to your computer and use it. The problem is that the installer package will refuse to work on a Mountain Lion system.
If you don't have an already-extracted version of AU 5.6.1 there is a solution: you simply need Pacifist to extract the app from the installer package. I also found another technique described on this page:

What kind of files are in there? Sounds like a carry over from your last system. DiskUtility should only be kept in Utilities with a shortcut in the dock or an alias on the desktop, idealy.

When I try and reopen a psd file I have created, I get the message "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"
Used to get this on occasional files using CS2, have now started getting it on CS3 files. The only way to get round it is to redo the work!
Am using Photoshop CS3, V.10 on a G5, OSX 10.4.11. Which is connected to a PC network.

Ran into the same message on files created by one of our designers. His computer needed a "cleansing" to stop corrupting files. Files were actually being corrupted locally, so it wasn't only a server issue...at least in our case. One thing that we did that "sort of" worked...we transferred the file to a PC and ran a shareware utility that repairs PSDs (Advanced PSD Repair Software). It said it repaired the file successfully, BUT it separated the files into a couple of hundred individual documents. Each layer and layer mask was a separate file. I didn't see any setting to recover as a composed file so I guess this is just how it works. If your file is not heavily layered and complex, I guess this might work for you, but, like I told the designer, I ain't goin' in there and reconstructing your layers. =) I know this doesn't help if you don't have access to a PC with Photoshop loaded in it, but thought this might help some poor soul along the way. You may be able to open the flattened composite or the embedded JPEG preview of your file in Adobe Illustrator, GraphicConverter (Mac only) or some such application, but your layers will be gone.
The problem of working across a network is that it's not supported by Adobe:

Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.

If you are working in PSE13, please update it to latest PSE13.1 update available and see if it helps.
To apply update, you can go to Help > Updates and there you can see PSE13.1 update.

I am running Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 on an Intel Mac OS 10.4.11.
I saved a 500MB PSD file which won't open.
As mentioned the dialog box reads ..."Not Compatible with this version of Photoshop"...
The file was not manipulated by any other computer or software version.
Please Please someone save this file or at least tell me it is gone forever so I can move on and start a week long rebuild...

The two things that will cause this kind of permanent damage to a Photoshop file are Norton Anti Virus or working across a network, opening and saving files directly to a server.
