HT3728 my broadband speed has all of a sudden been reduced dramatically over the weekend. the isp asked me to eliminate my apple airport express base station to make sure that my 20mb band is being delivered which i did and confirmed so.
MY BROADBAND HAS BEEN REDUCED DRAMATICALLY IN MY HOME NETWORK USING MY AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION.
THIS HAPPENED SO UNEXPECTEDLY OVER THE WEEKEND. I CALL MY ISP AND THEY SIMPLY TOLD ME TO ELIMINATE THE AIRPORT
EXTREME BASE STATION TO CONFIRM THAT WHAT I HAVE PURCHASED IS BEING DELIVERED WHICH I DID AND CONFIRMED.
MEANWHILE USING MY NETWORK UNTIL LAST FRIDAY EVERYTHING LOOKED JUST GREAT.
I WONDER WHETHER I WOULD HAVE TO RESET MY AIRPORT EXTREME TO FACTORY SETTINGS TO RECONFIGURE IT.
Hmm. Your ISP is incorrect in telling you that removing any of your routers on the local area network will have anything to do with the bandwidth performance that they provide you at the Internet modem. On the other hand, changing/removing networking equipment on your local network DOES affect bandwidth performance on that local network.
Most likely what the ISP is asking you to do is verify that you are getting their promised download/upload bandwidth at the modem. It appears that you did that and verified that you are getting the stated bandwidth.
So, we should take a look at why, when adding the AirPort Extreme, you are getting less.
First off, which AirPort Extreme model do you have? What is the make & model of the broadband modem that your ISP is providing you?
It is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment when introducing new hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details.

Has anyone tried using the AirPort Express Base Station with a first generation Time Capsule and used it to extend their network, while still being able to use the Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n on their network?
Thanks in advanceThe first generation Time Capsule was not a simultaneous dual band device.
If you add the "new" AirPort Express to the network and configure it to "Extend a wireless network", it will extend the one single band signal that it is receiving from the Time Capsule.
In other words, the AirPort Express will not extend simultaneous dual bands in this type of setup...since it can only "extend" what it receives. You would need a simultaneous dual band Time Capsule if you want that type of functionality. -
After downloading firmware for airport utility last night, airport express base station was deleted from airport utility and only Time Capsule remains. When I plug in the base station, an amber light blinks without being able to verify the cause. Any suggestions to remedy this problem?
There are only a couple of things you can do to resuscitate a nonresponsive Express:
"Hard reset":
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil until you see the status light (LED) start to flash amber rapidly, which should occur after about five seconds.
If that does not work,
"Factory defaults reset":
Unplug the Express from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the Express back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button.
In either case you will have to reconfigure the Express as a new device. A moment or two after it has been reset, the LED should be blinking slowly. It must then appear in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Earlier versions of OS X will report it as "Apple Network nnnnnn".
In either case, select it, and then launch AirPort Utility.
If it does no appear in your Wi-Fi menu after it has been reset using one of the two techniques above, it is defective. Other than attempting another reset, there is nothing you can do. -
Why have all 3 airport express base stations stopped working, other users are on ipads and BT have checked and improved line but I still have an intermittent/no connection?
You must tell us the whole setup.. what is the main router?? How are the express connected to each other?
On ipad it works ok?? But you are on a computer?? MBP early 2011 running Lion?? That doesn't work.. even if you are right next to the main router??
Plugged in by ethernet does it work??
Have you installed a wireless diagnostic program.. ?? Actually Lion has one installed but hidden I believe.
Later version bought it to the surface.

If you do run Lion please install the 5.6 airport utility as it will give you loads more info on how the units are connected.. and link speeds for extend wireless.
How to load 5.6 into later Lion & ML
1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so. -
Apple TV vs Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultaneous Dual-Band)
I have an original 40 GB TV that connects to my new ( (latest model)) Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (Simultaneous Dual-Band) (MC340LL/A). Since upgrading to this new AEBS, my TV will not connect via its internal Airport card. The TV will "see" my "Home-LAN" but always gives the error message, "Connection Failed".
I have tried to Reset and Restore the TV, even the "Restore to Factory Defaults"! I have changed the security settings on my AEBS from an Open Network (no security) to WPA/WPA Personal, WPA Personal. I have changed the "Radio Mode" from "802.11a/n - 802.11b/g" to "802.11a - 802.11b/g". The TV will not connect! I now have it connected to my "Home_LAN" via Ethernet, and it works fine.
Anyone with a similar problem and a suggestion or solution? Do you think the internal Airport Card is the problem? ThanksAs suggested in another discussion area, (AirPort), I reset the AEBS to factory defaults. On the TV, I went to >Settings>General>Network>Configure Wireless>Wireless Networks. I could then see the generic "Apple Network xxxxx" on the TV. From my MacBookPro, I verified that I could connect to the TV by launching iTunes and noting that the TV was now visible in the "Devices" menu. Went back to the AEBS and ran through the "Setup" routine. I did NOT use the "Previous Settings" but instead, saved the old settings profile, created a new wireless network and new settings profile and enabled WPA2 Personal encryption. I then went back to the TV and went through the "Settings" routine again (as noted above). This time, after entering my WPA2 password, the TV connected to the network and problem was solved. Thanks.

Airport express base station has disappeared from airport admin utility
I think I have the same problem as several others here.
Network with extreme and express has been working fine for month. Express is used to connect and share usb printer. Yesterday it decided to disappear. Have reset both extreme and express. Extreme is back online so I have web access, but express does not show up so I can't configure it and run my printer.

i have an ipod touch 4th gen and it has all of a sudden stopped playing music. i click on the song and it goes onto it then all of a sudden goes onto the song then goes to the music menu without playing the song. please help

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to. -
What is the difference between the AirPort Extreme and the airport express base station and which one can extend my wifi router.
With rare exceptions of a few older routers, neither one can extend a non-Apple router's network wirelessly - they are not designed that way - but you can extend the wireless network if the Extreme is hardwired to the router or you can connect wirelessly and join the network as an access point that will provide remote ethernet access but not produce or extend the wireless signal - here is a comparison of the Apple base stations - http://www.apple.com/wifi/

Broadband speed has dropped after i changed to opt...
I joined BT in August. I was on the broadband option 1 package, but i decided to change to the unlimited download package which was changed over on the 24th October. Since then, my broadband speed has reduced drastically. I rang BT who said they would reset my profile but this hasn't helped.
I have a wired connection which is connected to the master NTE5 socket. I have a Hub 3 which i never turn off. My speedtest results are.........
Download speedachieved during the test was - 263 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps
Any help would be appreciated but please be aware that i am not very technical minded lol!

At log-in Firefox the screen opened up with the message "Oops, We're embarrassed, we are having trouble closing tabs" or similar wording directing me to click on a tab to continue, which I did. At which time a screen full of rows of thumbnail pictures of a young girl in appeared on the screen. Some of the pictures had the girl imitating a sexual act. When I tried to close out of the screen by clicking on the 'X' at the top right of the screen, another screen opened with another larger picture of this little girl. I finally got out of Firefox. When I open it up again the message wasn't on the screen. As these pictures were disturbing I cleared them out of my history.
My questions are - 1. Since these pictures appeared to be of a minor, can you backtrack to the source to find out where they originated and have something done about the individual who posted them? And,
2. - Did my clicking on the link as directed - by Firefox, I thought - open my computer up to the personal information on my computer being compromised?

My mac has OSX version 10.8.2 and I'm try to install an aiport express base station which requires 10.5.7 or later. Yet when I try to install the software it says the base station is not compatible with my mac version - how do I resolve?
You already have the software installed that you need if you have 10.8.2.
If AirPort Utility cannot find the Express, that is another matter. More software is not needed. More troublehooting is needed.
Power up the Express for a full minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express for 7-8 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen
Look for a heading of New AirPort Base Station
Just below that, click on AirPort Express

Try as much as you can. When it says to place in recovery mode use this program instead.

Open the Sharing pane in System Preferences. If the Computer Name is not set, enter a name. You may first have to click the lock icon in the lower left corner and authenticate to unlock the settings.
