HT3728 set password time capsule using windows

I lost the disk for the time capsule and am using a windows based computer.  I would like to reset the time capsule password.  How can I do that?

Hello,
I have same problem.
Dell Vostro (Win7) to Timecapsule (7.4.2) using WPA2-Personal = fails authentication
Dell Vostro (Win7) to Timecapsule (7.4.2) using LAN = success
iMAC (OSX 10.6.3) to Timecapsule (7.4.2) using WPA2-Personal = success
MacbookPro (OSX 10.6.3) to Timecapsule (7.4.2) using WPA2-Personal = success
Have checked passkeys, all equal. Dell 'sees' network, and can identify protocol, SSID etc no prob.
So, question.. is there a difference in vendor implementations?

oh i already did that. Im working on my imac and looking into this on my macbook. Was able to reproduce the issue again by trying to open TM. Locked out the finder again and had to restart. I checked the serial number and it was an early 2009 purchase with no coverage.
If you bought a Mac and got AppleCare with it, within 2 years of buying the TC, the TC is covered, too.
I have to admit that this $500 unit was the first to apparently junk out. The western digital that had my main data on that is my daily external that I store about 2TB of data on is still perfect and the new technology TM appears to already be cashed. Love the computers, not to big of a fan on the externals of the apple TV's. No life expectancy. Neither here nor there.
suggestions before I either get this looked at or scrap the HD on it and move forward.?
Reset the TC. See [Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728].
Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
If all else fails, take it to your local Apple Store or Authorized Repair location, they may be able to determine whether the disk is dead.
If it is, they might replace the TC for you. If not, they won't repair it, but if the electronics are ok, you can replace the HD yourself, if you want to. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2542983

  • Can't print through Time Capsule using Windows-operating computers

I've just bought a time capsule 500GB and it's working fine. It backups my macbook every hour and I can easily print whatever file I want through my Canon iP1800 series, which is connect to WAN port of my time capsule.
However, I have others 2 notebooks running windows, and I can't print from them wirelessly. I've installed the airport utility and Bonjour in both computers using the CD that came with my time capsule and I followed these instructions of an old topic here (_but it didn't work out_):
“1. Make sure the printer is recognized by the base station.
    2. Select 'Add a new printer' in Windows
    3. Select 'Local Printer' in the dialog box (auto detect and install
    should be off), click next.
    4. Choose 'Create a new port' and "Standard TCP/IP Port'. Click next.
    5. For the printer IP address, enter the address of the base station 10.0.1.1. The port name will be filled automatically. Click next.
    6. For the device type, choose 'Hewlet Packard Jet Direct', then click Finish.
Choose your printer from the list and follow the rest of the prompts to install and configure the driver.”
Do someone have any idea to tell me what's happening? How can I fix this problem and have Mac and Windows laptops printing through my time capsule?
    Thanks

When you installed bonjour did the Bonjour Print Wizard appear on your desktop? Or in the program menu?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3052?viewlocale=en_US
In my personal experience Bonjour sometimes doesn't install properly and doesn't appear on either the desktop or program menu, particularly if it is installed at the same time as another piece of apple software. Each of the times this happened I removed bonjour, using Windows Setup:Add/Remove programs, and then downloaded it again individually.
If you have the same experience as me you'll then be asked if you want to install a shortcut to the printer wizard. The wizard has done the trick for me. I've not yet had to resort to the rather more complicated "add new printer" route.

  • How do i set up my time capsule with windows

How do I set up my airport time capsule using Windows 7 home premium?

If you have the newest AC model TC.. you might be in trouble. Apple specifically state you need v6 airport utility. They do not provide v6 with windows.. only Mac and iOS. If you happen to have iphone, ipad even itouch, you can download and install the airport utility and use that.. you just cannot do the setup from windows.

  • HT1178 wifi to set up time capsule

if i don't have the cable can i set up time capsule using wifi?

You will need to connect an Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule to establish a wired connection to your modem or router.
Once this is done, the Time Capsule can be set up using wireless from a computer, iPad or iPhone.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Is it possible to share a disk on airport extreme for both Time Capsule use and Windows use

    Hello
I was hoping to add some better backup capacity to our home. Can I use the same disk attacheded to the USB port of an Airport Extreme for Time Capsule use for our Macbooks, as well as general use by the windows laptops> If not is it possible to add multiple disks to the Airport Extreme and designate one for Mac Laptops, and the other for Windows use.
    Regards
    Ted

Regardless of the client's OS, you can use the AirPort Disk (USB HDD attached to the AirPort Extreme's USB) port as a 'NAS' device. You also have the option of partitioning it if you actually want separate volumes to be used between Mac or Windows clients. I would recommend partitioning it for Mac OS Extended (Journaled) which would also format it for HFS+. Normally HFS+ volumes are not readable (natively) by Windows, but the Extreme's File Server will share this drive out with both AFP (for Macs) and SMB (for Windows/Linux) clients.
However, one note of caution. Do NOT use this AirPort Disk for Time Machine backups as this is NOT supported by Apple. Although a number of users have done so, a number of them also post here complaining of corrupted backups.

Your pro doesn't matter.. I presume it is happily working.
Your imac setup has got messed up because you changed from a local (my book being USB type I presume) to network drive. Did you do a clean install of Lion?
Did you use the backup from the Pro on the imac? Otherwise I don't see how the Pro shows up in use previous disk. Where is Pondini when you need him??
You cannot download Time Machine as an App and replace the current version. It is built into the OS.. the only way to do it is a clean install. Unfortunately that might be the only way around the issue.
There is a number of issues that Pondini has covered in the setup issues of troubleshooting.
This is the most relevant I think. http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html
But look at the whole section B setup problems.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If it was me, I would store all the info you need.. not using TM but using a straight copy of files.
Then clean install Lion. I doubt any of these issues would exist if you had not installed Lion over existing setup or used a different backup.
See if you can get Pondini to respond.. !!

  • Using Printer via Time Capsule for Windows

    Hi,
Could you please guide me how can I use printer connect to my time capsule from windows based PC. I can do it from my mac but unable to print it from Windows PC.
I have also downloaded Bonjour, it detects my HP printer 1018 but when it comes to driver it is not able to locate also tried so many different option for the driver but unfortuntely no luck so somebody please guide me to print (HP Laserjet 1018 printer) from windows connected via Time Capsule 2TB.

When you setup the printer choose a local printer.. then change the port to TCP/IP and type in the IP of the TC.
Complete the setup.. and choose the 1018 HP printer drivers.
That should be all there is to it.
Download the airport utility for windows and see if the printer is there.
Ensure you have the TC setup in WORKGROUP for file sharing.
Make sure the computer is in home.. not work or public.
Make sure you do not have homegroup activated.
If that doesn't work turn off the firewall and try again.

  • Having trouble setting up Time capsule...

I just bought a new iMac last night. I also picked up Time Capsule and Apple TV. I'm having a problem setting up Time Capsule correctly. I'll go through what I did step by step and hopefully someone can help me as I've never tried to set up a wireless network before.
I'm connected to the internet via Comcast. I have the outside cable coming into the modem and the ethernet cable from the modem i have plugged into TC's WAN port (the one with the gear logo).
I start by opening Airport Utility ( I upgraded to the most recent version using the install disc that came with TC) and it recognizes TC in the left side of the window. It says it found TC with default settings and gives a name for it and an Airport ID. I click continue.
The next window prompts me to name the TC and assign a password. I do so and click continue.
The next window gives me some options about setting up a new or existing wireless network. It says it found some existing networks which I assume are my neighbors. I select "I don't have a wireless network and want to create one". I click continue.
The next window prompts me to give a name and security level to the new network. I provide a name and select WPA/WPA2 Personal and enter and verify a password. I click continue.
The next window asks whether I'd like TC to be in Bridge mode or Share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT.
If I click Share a single IP, a popup tells me "This will cause my TC to continue to blink amber and do I want to ignore this and continue?". So I figure this can't be a good thing and I click on Bridge mode not really knowing what it means.
The next window asks me to enter the TCP/IP info from my ISP. It also says to choose "Using DHCP" if I receive an IP address automatically. So in the box where it says "Configure IPv4", I select "Using DHCP" and there is an IP address and Subnet mask with numbers after each. Below that is Router Address, with fields for DNS Server, Domain Name and DHCP Client ID. These fields are blank. I click continue.
The next window says TC will use these settings:
TC name - Jim's Time Capsule
Wireless Mode - Create a wireless network
    Network Name - Jim's Network
    Wireless Security - WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Connect Using - Ethernet
    Configure IPv4 - Using DHCP
    IP Address - (Provided Automatically)
If settings are correct, click Update to finish setting up your TC or click Go Back to change settings. I click Update and a box tells me that the device and its network service will be temporarily unavailable and do I want to continue? I click continue.
The next window tells me that the settings for TC have been updated successfully and its being configured. I then get a window reporting a problem. It says-
"Problem 1 of 1: Internet Connection
Your Apple wireless device does not have a valid IP address. Make sure your Apple wireless device is connected to your broadband modem or local network, verify your settings and try again. If you still can't connect, call your ISP."
There are two boxes with options. The first is "Connect Using" and "ethernet" is selected with "PPoE" being the other option. The second box says "Configure IPv4" and "Using DHCP" is selected, and "Manually" is the other option.
Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, but I don't have a clue. I'm getting online fine when I plug the ethernet cable into the back of the iMac. I've reset the modem by hitting the reset button. The light turns green on the TC but I can't connect to the internet. Any ideas? Feel free to call me a big dummy
    Jim

Thank you, Jim Somoygi. I had a similar multi-hour odyssey with a AE and a Comcast cable modem.
This solved the seemingly endless blinking amber light:
    1. unplug power from the modem and AE (or time capsule). Go get a beverage of your choice (wait a couple of minutes).
    2. My modem has a battery backup (Comcast phone service). So, I pressed a tiny reset button on the back of the Comcast modem (it's made by Arris). With the battery backup, I'm not sure I would have been able to reset the modem simply by unplugging.
    3. Make sure there is an ethernet cable connecting the cable modem and the AE or TC
    4. Plug the modem back in, wait for the lights to come on. I also had to press a "standby" button on the front of the modem to get all the lights to come on.
    5. Plug in the AE (or TC)
    6. Green light on the AE (it's not easy being green)
    7. Choose the appropriate Airport network & surf away.
I will say that the problem seems to be with the modem, rather than the AE. Once I reset the modem, I could configure the AE with ease. Once the AE is configured, it is absolutely rock stable. Before I fiddled with the network & brought this on myself, I enjoyed shockingly stable networking with the AE -- much better than with previous attempts with Netgear or Buffalo products (although I do like the ease with which Buffalo products can be configured together, using their proprietary handshaking protocol "AOSS").

  • Problems accessing Time Capsule on windows Vista

I have an iMac running Leopard and a laptop running Vista Home Edition. I'm having some problems accessing Time Capsule from the Vista machine. everytime I click to access the drive, a message appears in the menu bar of the window that says (not responding). I've tried leaving it. I've even changed my entire wireless network to bypass the original g router (belkin) to use TC, so I now have TC as my router, Belkin just setup as a wired broadband modem but I still get the same problem. The mac seems fine, although I have had quite a few issues with drop outs.
both machines have the latest version of Airport Utility and Bonjour.
The laptop is a recent purchase to replace a dead XP machine, this worked fine and I managed to get stuff backed up just before it died, thankgod.
    Any help appreciated.

No problem seeing Time Capsule with iMac, Dell desktop XP Home, Dell notebook XP Pro, and Fusion with XP Pro. All installed according to the installation guide. Installed AirPort Utility on all machines and updated firmware to 7.3.1. To see the other machines, make sure file sharing is on. Firewall on the PCs may need to be turned off. The printer plugged into the USB port also worked with all the XP systems and the iMac with a few missing features on iMac (I am assuming different driver issues). BTW, logging onto the created network and accessing the Time Capsule HD are separate. If you've entered different passwords for the HD and wireless networking when setting up Time Capsule initially (which I did through the iMac first), you'll need to enter them separately with the XP machines. You could also try resetting Time Capsule. Seems to work for others.

  • Time Capsule and Windows 7 Back Up and Restore

    Hello,
I would like to know i can manage to save my backup of windows 7 on the Time Capsule using the back and restore tools ?
I am using on my time capsule the file sharing with the disk password, but it doesnt seems to work.
    Can u please help ?
    Thx !

Open the guest access and give read and write permissions.
Also make sure you actually give the WORKGROUP name in the WORKGROUP area, correct to the win7 workgroup..
If you still cannot access the TC try turning off the firewall in win7.. you may also need to ensure that win7 is recognised as in home, ie local network, not work or public.
Open a command window and ping the TC to make sure you have network access.
In windows explorer type \\ipaddressofTC\ into the address bar.. that being its IP address. You can also try netbios name.
If none of that works post again but it should.. on latest firmware on the TC??
You need to use windows backup which is near useless.. I recommend you download a utility that can do a proper disk image.. there are plenty around.

  • How to back up Home folder to Time Capsule using Backup in OS 10.4.11

I'm new to Time Capsule, but just set up one that I was given, which does 802.11n wireless. No problem connecting to my Intel MacBook and Time Machine. HOWEVER, using Backup v 3.2 on a Dual G4 running OS 10.4.11 was not seamless. The Backup app (needs a MobileMe subscription to use over 100 Mb) gave me the option of a Time Capsule backup, but kept failing to back up my Home folder. The reason given was not enough disk space. Not the problem; plenty of space when I accessed Time Capsule using Airport on my MacBook (OS 10.5). Finally I accessed the Time Capsule from the G4 using the path: Finder => Go => Network => Time Capsule => Connect => TC Password. In other words, I had to access the Time Capsule as if I were networking to another computer.
So had Backup given me some instructions along this line, I wouldn't have had to dither around so long. When I quit Backup and reopened it, the backup plan for the home folder proceeded as normal.

I've found a solution, no need to post a response. Thanks!
