HT3728 Time capsule router speed reduction?

I have a 3 year old time capsule and have just done a firmware update to bring it up to date. I get 33 mbps when I plug in directly from the modem( I am on Comcast). When I route the signal through the time capsule I only get 3-6 mbps on the wifi and the same when I connect directly to the time capsule with an  either-net cable. Any ideas on what is happening to my signal? Why the reduction?

Did you perform a complete, full power cycle of the entire network?
If not, power off every device on the network in any order that you want
Make sure that the modem is fully powered off by pulling the power cord from the back of the modem or unplugging the power supply from the wall AC jack
Wait 10-15 minutes, longer would be better
Start the modem first and let it run 3-4 minutes by itself
Start the Time Capsule next the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the network is back up
Check the network

  • Time Capsule router speed problem

    Hi,
First of all sorry for my english!
A few days ago I started having speed problem with internet.
I use a Time Capsule 2Go as router and I notify recently a lost of speed when I download a movie via my appleTV.  I never have this kind of problem.
My normal speed is about 14Mbits/sec. so when I rent a movie and I have to wait 5 hours before been able to watch it, it's not normal.
I contact my internet supplier/distributor and he checkout with my neighborhood to compare their speed with mine, and I was the only one to have speed problem.
Than he suggest me to run a ''speed data test'' on their website, and my speed was around 0.75Mbits/sec.
To be sure it was my router and not their modem he ask me to plug internet directly in my iMac and run the test again.
Well I was return at a normal speed, that is to say, 14Mbits/sec.
So he told me the problem was my router and not their modem.
So I restart it and everything came back as normal.  But today it was return to a very low speed.
I restart it again and it still slow.
    My question :
Is it really my TC the problem and what is the solution?  Buy a new one?
I dont know which generation it is.  Maybe the serial No. can help. C0PHK08GDM73
    Thank you

My computer don't stop asking me to update my TC to the early version.  How can I stop that?
Open AirPort Utility and then click on the AirPort Utility menu, then click on Preferences
Remove the check mark in the box next to "Check for updates when opening......"
Remove the check mark in the box next to "Check for updates automatically......"

  • Nas raid connected to my Apple Time Capsule Router

    Hi,
I have the Apple Time Capsule 2TB router. I am looking into getting a Sans Digital  USB 3 SATA 6 5 bay RAID enclosure and adding at first 3 2TB WD RED HDDs. Configured as RAID 5.
    my question is this...
Can I hook the Sands Digital to the Apple Router? Does the Apple Router support this configuration? I emailed Sans Digital but they did not know the answer.
Right not I am using my ipad3 to connect to the Time Capsule router and it works great  I tried connecting a single HDD formated as Fat32 to test and that works great. The streaming from the apple router to the ipad is a little slow. this is streaming my Canon 60D mov files. The bit rate is just a little to fast for the 100mb wireless. Somebody like Apple needs to develop a Gb wireless technology. I can't believe the industry is not working on this. If Apple and others want the ipad to be a completely wireless device then this needs to happen, IMHO.

It probably won't work. I have gone through this with someone else.. unless the raid presents to the TC as if it is a single plain drive it will fail.
Use a proper NAS via ethernet. not USB.. ever.. even USB3. The amount of stuff involved in raid. just make it hard for the computer to handle. The NAS is self contained with full OS. It presents to the computer as network drive which is what you want.

Apple have released the new AC version TC a few months back.. the AC version iPad will doubtless come out in the next revision or maybe the one after.. it depends on power consumption which is probably a lot higher than standard N wireless. If this has a big impact on battery life. For now the new AC version (which is supposedly gigabit wireless.. no wireless is ever half of its claimed speed of course).. will do you no good since the wireless at both ends must match.

  • I can't connect to internet using Time Capsule router.

My hard drive recently died. I took the iMac to the Apple store and had a 500 GB hard drive installed. I disconnected my Time Capsule so the Apple rep could restore my data. Now when I try to reconnect to the internet via Time Capsule router, it won't connect. The cable modem is fine, and the Time Capsule's status seems OK with the green light. It even seems to be backing up OK. I don't think I did anything differently, other than unplug it in order to have the Apple rep restore my data. Any thoughts out there?

It sounds like the cable company neglected to mention to you that you must completely reset the modem whenever you change the device that it is connected to. That's because the modem "associates" with a device and "remembers" the settings.
If you then change devices, the modem will "look" for the old device that was connected to it and it will of course not "find" it, so it won't connect.
That's why you need to do the complete sequence that I provided.
If you still cannot connect after the complete reset, then you may have a defective modem. I'm not trying to pick on the cable company....and yours may be an exception...but the last time my modem was having problems, the provider kept insisting that "everything looks good". But, they always say that.
I turned the modem off and called them back an hour later and they still said "everything looks good".
An Ethernet cable has a slightly wider plug than a phone cable. If that's the only connector on the modem, then it must be the right one. Ethernet cables do fail. You might want to check your cable, just in case.

  • Linksys Router & Time Capsule Router

I currently have a Linksys Router (as I have a phone line thru TMobile) and just purchased a Time Capsule Model:A1302.  I am confused as to using both routers.  Can I have 2 routers, and how do I set this up?
How do I turn off the Time Capsule Router if not?
I currently have 3 computers: 1 MacBook Pro, 2 HP desktops.  House is a Ranch style with full basement (5600sf).  Mechanical room is in lower level and that is where all wiring is located.  Main house is upstairs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

In your case the quick erase is fine.. it takes like one min .. no data is erased just the file tables.. but that is fine.. to zero out the drive takes many hours as it is a low level format and is used when you are going to dispose of the drive.
    What OS are you running??
Lion / ML do have issues with TC. It works but the OS loses its ability to find it.
The airport utility is a toyland device.. a plastic hammer.. great for plastic nails.. totally useless for the real thing.
If you are on Lion install 5.6 utility.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Also install the update to the update if you plan to use TM. Or spotlight.. actually just install it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599
If you run Mountain Lion the installer for 5.6 AU will not work.. but there is a simple work around to keep using 5.6 utility.
Also download and install.. this very neat unpkg tool.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Open the dmg of AU you downloaded.. drag the pkg file over the unpkg.. and it will unpackage the AU onto the desktop.. AirPortUtility56.. you can then find the utility under applications utiity and drag it to your main utility folder.

  • What is the actual speed at which the time capsule router can transmit?

I am consistently getting only 40% of the speed of my ISP when I use wireless via my time capsule vrs a direct connection to the isp modem. I would just like to know how fast the wireless can transmit? Is it the bottleneck, something else I should be doing, etc.?????

    Welcome to the discussions!
The speed of your wireless network will depend on a number of interrelated factors. Some of them are:
    1) How close your computer is to the wireless router
    2) How many obstructions, walls, ceilings, etc there are between the computer and the wireless router
    3) Wireless interference from cordless phones (could be your neighbors'), wireless security systems and other wireless networks near you in addition to a multitude of other possibilities listed in this Apple Support Document.
    4) Alignment of the moon and planets
At 5 GHz, the Time Capsule can transmit a signal close to 300 Mbps and at 2.4 GHz, the Time Capsule can transmit a signal close to 130 Mbps
Hold down the option key on your computer while you click on the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of the screen. Look for the Transmit Rate number. That is the theoretical speed at which your current connection is capable of operating. This number will change depending on the location of the computer in relation to the router. What are some of the Transmit Rate numbers that you see?

  • Time Capsule Bandwidth Speed versus Fios Router Directly

Verizon just replaced my Fios Router because download speeds were 5 megs/sec. I just received my new one in the mail and hooked it up. I connected to the FIOS router and was getting 27 mbps download and 5 on the upload. I went back to my original setup of turning off the Radio broadcast on the FIOS router and using my time capsule to broadcast wifi....i have dropped to 5 mbps download speed--same speeds when Verizon thought it was their problem. What do I do? I don't understand the limitations or what has happened. Can someone provide suggestions?

Bridge means to remove all routing from the TC.
Open Manual setup in airport utility (on lion v5.6 utility only).
    Go to internet tab.
    Go to Connection sharing.
Select off, bridge mode.. update the TC.. it is now bridge.
If still slow there are a number if issues.. and I doubt we have found the ultimate cause.. bad firmware in 7.6 could be one of them .. go back to 7.5.2
ie in airport utility go to the firmware update but hold down the option key and you can select older firmware.. they work better than new ones.
You also might need to reset the TC to factory to get rid of the poor settings.

  • Time Capsule WIFI speed issue

How can I get the most Internet speed from my Time Capsule?  I have FIOS with 50mps over Ethernet but it slows to 30-36mps over WIFI.

If you check the specs for the Atheros chip it is clearly single stream.
    http://www.qca.qualcomm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/AR9285.pdf
The Apple router is built to Apple's limited 2.4ghz type setup with a Max speed of 130-150mbps on 2 streams.. so 65mbps on single stream is just spot on.
There is nothing you can change to fix it.. at least not in the apple router.
You can plug in a standard 2.4ghz 300mbps router like your old TP-Link and use that as WAP and that will give you higher speed for your PC.
Simply put the router into WAP mode.. or if that is missing use WAN BYPASS (just google for it).. and plug the TP-Link into the TC by ethernet. LAN TO LAN.

  • Time Capsule slowing speeds

    Hi Out There
I am by no means a tech person but can get by, so bare with me...
Recently upgraded from an older model Airport Express to latest Time Capsule (2TB). TC is linked with a Netgear ADSL2+ modem (DM111P). There has been a marked drop off in internet speeds and it does not appear to be traffic congestion because it can be anytime, day or night. The old Airport was giving good speeds when we moved in the town but the drop off has been since installing the TC.
The TC is run wirelessly and the house size is small. Interaction between wireless devices appears to be good, only the internet speeds.
Can anyone advise if this could a configuration issue or the ISP choking speeds (I've heard that mentioned before??)
    any suggestions welcome...but be polite!
    Oldcol

    Netgear ADSL2+ modem (DM111P).
Is the modem bridged or in router mode?
If you are not sure where are the adsl credential.. in the modem or on the TC?
Sadly the latest version of the TC can have ethernet issues, particularly on the WAN port.
If possible borrow a full modem router.. and test with the TC bridged.
Perhaps give me some numbers.. plug a computer directly to the modem. (if bridged you will need to setup pppoe client in the computer) and give me a real speed test.. then give me a speed test with the TC running.. but using ethernet to the computer. and then same test with wireless.. please test wireless with no ethernet and ethernet with wireless turned off.
We should be able to sort the origin of the problem from that.

  • Time Capsule wireless speed vs. ISP speed

I am looking at upgrading my ISP Service from a 10Mbps to a 50Mbps download speed. I am told that my current modem will not handle the increased speed, so I'll have to upgrade to a newer modem that includes wireless router capabilities. I am currently using a Time Capsule as my router (late 2008 model). My questions are:
    1) apparently I can disable the wireless capability on the new modem, and continue to use the Time Capsule as my router - but will the Time Capsule actually deliver the increased speed to my remote computers (2 MacBooks and 1 iMac)?
    2) Would this be the best route to take given that I use Time Machine and a shared printer attached to the Time Capsule?
    Advice would be appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions!
+1) apparently I can disable the wireless capability on the new modem, and continue to use the Time Capsule as my router - but will the Time Capsule actually deliver the increased speed to my remote computers (2 MacBooks and 1 iMac)?+
The Time Capsule can deliver up to 300 Mbps using 5 GHz and 130 Mbps using 2.4 GHz, so it will be able to handle a 50 Mbps internet connection with ease. FWIW, the Time Capsule can handle an ethernet connection up to 1000 Mbps, otherwise known as Gigabit.
+2) Would this be the best route to take given that I use Time Machine and a shared printer attached to the Time Capsule?+
We don't know anything about the device that your ISP would be providing to you. As far as keeping things simple, continuing to use the Time Capsule would save you from having to configure a new network on the new router. Since your devices already connect to the wireless on the Time Capsule, no further modifications should be needed for them to continue to connect as before.
You'll probably need to reset Time Machine to keep backups running smoothly, but that's easily accomplished. Post back if you need details on this.

  • TIme Capsule Network Speed on a PC

Ok folks... be gentle. I'm new to the Apple world, and I've got a problem I can't quite figure out on my own.
    Hardware:
    * Windows 7 desktop PC
    * MacBook Pro
    * iPhone 4
    * Time Capsule (1TB)
The desktop PC hardwired to the Capsule via Ethernet cable... MacBook & iPhone via wireless.
Just bought the the Time Capsule last week to replace an old Belkin router. Got the basic setup completed just fine. No problems there, and the Time Machine backup on the MacBook is running ok.
The problem is with my internet speeds on the hardwired Desktop PC.
I've got cable modem internet access, so it should be flying... but I can't even play a YouTube video on the PC w/o it skipping every 5 seconds waiting to catch up with the download. Even pictures on the net are slow to download.
No problems at all using the MacBook or iPhone. It's streaming to those just fine.
The problem didn't and does not exist with my old Belkin router. Since the problem began when I started using the Capsule... I removed it from the system, reconnected everything to my old Belkin, and the problem went away. Everything on the desktop was lightning fast again. I removed it, brought the Capsule back to life, went back through the setup... and the problem returned.
At this point I'm thinking there's a problem with the Capsule's ethernet port... or there's some setting in the software, either in the AirPort Utility or on my PC, that's not correct.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance...

Good question. While Apple's setup instructions do indicate that the Time Capsule can be configured as a wireless client on an existing wireless network, no mention is made of whether its ethernet ports will be active in this configuration. Why not try it, and report back with your findings?

  • Time capsule download speeds are slow

    iMac <======>Time capsule (bridge mode) <=====> 10/100 ethernet switch <====> Comcast router/modem Arris TG862
Multiple iDevices are wirelessly connected to Time capsule because Arris TG862 couldn't handle more than 10 wireless devices without kicking them off.
Time capsule is in bridge mode, 4th gen, 7.6.4.
Have been running this configuration for over a year and download speeds @ 50Mbs for the iMac that is wired to the time capsule and an iMac that is wirelessly connected to time capsule.  AppeTV is hardwired to 10/100 ethernet switch as well, and has never had a problem before download / streaming movies.
In the past week, the wired download speed of the iMac has crawled down to 5-6 Mbs.  Wireless connections are .5-1 Mbs.
I have unplugged all devices, waited 10 mins, plugged in router/modem, waited 5 mins, plugged in switch, waited 1 min, plugged in TC, waited 5 mins, ran a test on Speedtest.net - still getting 5 Mbs wired and slower on wifi.  If I unplug the ethernet cable from the TC (WAN) and plug it into the iMac directly, I get 57 Mbs download speed on Speedtest.net.  Why would the TC suddenly be slowing down download speeds.  In all configurations, the upload speed is still 10-11 Mbs.  It appears that only download speeds are affected.  Any suggestions?

Yes, I've tried moving the ethernet cable from the iMac to a different LAN port on the TC.  Same slow speed.  The wireless download speeds are slow too, seems like the WAN connection is "throttling" download speeds no matter if it's wired or wireless.
I have pressed the reset button on the back of the TC until the front light blinks amber.  Then I went thru the setup to have it connected Ethernet, Bridge mode, create a wireless network, and DHCP from the router.  I got 12 Mbs download speed for the wired connection after doing this the first time.  Fifteen minutes later I tested it again using Speedtest.net and the download speed for the wired connection had fallen to 5 Mbs.  I unplugged the TC, waited a half hour, held the reset button down while I plugged it in, went thru the setup again, and still had a download speed of only 4 Mbs when I was done.
I assumed if the switch on the TC went bad that it wouldn't work at all, not just be slow.
    Any other suggestions?

  • How do I use a Netgear CM400 cable modem with my Time Capsule router?

I switched out my TWC modem for one I bought. I called and activated a CM400 Netgear modem with time Warner cable. They said it is activated and responding. My time capsule is on a green solid light but i can't connect to the Internet! Why??

Your previous setup may have been a modem router and the TC is connected in the wrong mode.. it should be dhcp and nat with a pure cable modem.. is it?
You also might need to put the TC into the correct mode.. then power off the modem for about 15min.. (try 5min first).. power up the modem.. wait 5min and then power up the TC .. it should grab the public IP and route that to the network.. reboot all the clients so they get fresh connection and see if that works.
If not give us a few screenshots from the airport utility of how the TC is setup.

  • No connection to Time Capsule router after restoring backup

I had a hard disk failure in Macbook Pro and the disk was replaced with fresh Yosemite 10.10.  The Macbook Pro had Mavericks before the crash. I use a Time Capsule as router for several laptops, Ipads and mobile phones and for Time Machine backups and it works fine. Restoring the system from Time Machine backup to the Mackbook Pro by WiFi went fine. Took some 7-8 hours overnight. The problem with the Macbook Pro is now that it cannot locate the Time Capsule either with WiFi or Ethernet connection and cannot connect to internet. I can detect the restored Macbook Pro using the Airport Utility of a Macbook Air with OS 10.7.5. I can detect the Time Capsule and even modify its settings using the Airport Utility of the Macbook Pro by using the Time Capsule address. But the Airport Utility of the Macbook Pro still keeps on searching the configured base station, that is the Time Capsule. So, this is not a hardware problem, but some settings in the Macbook Pro. Any ideas?

What are you using to connect to it?
Do a full factory reset and plug in by ethernet to do the setup.

  • Printing with iphone and time capsule router

I have an iphone 4 and a Time Capsule with router. I have my HP 8500 wireless printer plugged into time capsule. iphone says that it cannot find airprint printers.

Time Capsule is a combination wireless router and wireless hard drive for access to the internet via wi-fi with connected computers and with your iPhone, and for backing up connected Macs wirelessly via Time Machine.
Your iPhone can connect to the internet via your wireless network created with Time Capsule, but that is it.
