My mac is [OS X v10.8.3].
mac website said, if your version is over 10.6.x, than you can play AVI format.
but my Quick time can't.... I can't understand this situation..... please help me

but, Quick time, Div X, Flip player can't play FLV....

The file is send as audio/mpeg and that usually should be sufficient to make Firefox select a plugin that handles the file.<br />
Probably a MIME type as application/x-mplayer2 will also work to select a WMP compatible player as most users on Windows won't have QT.
Does QT work otherwise correctly for you when playing embedded content?

you just followed the wrong road try this one instead and you will love it.
*1st of all*: Dont pay attention to QuickTime, no matter what movie you want to view
just download and install VLC Media Player and your worries about formats, video codecs, audio codecs, multi zone dvd reproduction will be over in a sec!
just "open as" > VLC Media Player and you will see everything and if you have a subtitle file, just drag it into the movie

AVI is a "legacy" file container that has not been officially supported by Microsoft for more than a decade. If you do not want to determine the specific problem preventing your viewing of the file and fix it, then download a third-party player like VLC that employs its own internal FFmpeg codec support and does not rely on your Apple's system configuration for palyback or use a converter app like Handbrake that has presets that will convert the AVI file to QT compatible compression formats in QT compatible file containers and suffer some possible loss in video quality.

If not, you have to determine what particular codec is required, find out if it is available, and then download/install it. (Not all AVI audio/video file formats have been ported for Mac use.) Even then, if it is a proprietary codec and you want to be able to convert to/from that format, you may have to purchase/register the component.

6233 is a s40 while smart movie is a symbian application and only works on s60 devices. so you won't be able to play .avi files. it plays in 3gp format. what you need is a multimedia converter. visit the nokia development site: www.forum.nokia.com or there's software that is on your phone's cd budled with pcsuite called ulead. i just used that to convert some movies. works great, excellent quality.

This did solve my question. I'm not happy with the actions necessary to get the avi file to play, but it works. I was delivering a presentation with an embedded avi video file to a workplace audience and all of a sudden the transition from powerpoint is not "seamless" anymore, but it is better than not having the movie presentation.
Mavericks is not a big improvement for me, and this is not the first cumbersome step I've encountered. I would not recommend a leam to Mavericks unless there is something you really need. It's not all Apple's fault, as third party app providers are not keeping their product up -to-date, but we don't have computers for the fancy OS, we have it for the apps.

Try using VLC or installing both QuickTime 7 and Perian. Nothing will work with all AVIs; some of them require codecs not available for Mac OS X.

Ppl are saying they can play avi on X3-02. I have put some .avi files on the microsd card and when i try to play them the mediaplayer opens up and remains on a black.. it doesnt play anything and does show any message either

AVI is aContainer, but it depends on used codecs inside.
standart avi files with XviD and MP3 working good on this phone.
but use XmediaRecode (google it) to convert in perfect x3-02 format.

Can´t play avi files

I used to play AVI files on my Mac and Mac Book Pro but recently anything change that I can't play the same or new AVI files. I used to play it on Power Point presentations but right now I can't play with Quick Time. I can do it with VLC and also in other new Mac Book Pro with the same OS (10.8). What happen, anybody knows?

Finally I found the problem. It was related to the DivX soft. My new .AVI files doesn't play (neither Quick Time nor embedded in Power Point presentations) because any conflict with DivX. When I uninstalling the program all my .AVI files returned to play normally.

I am a paid QuickTime Pro user. However, I can't play some .avi files. No images, no sound. It just pop up a window shows,

You need Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
