HT3775 I can't play avi movies on my mac. I don't know what to do!
my friend gave me some regular show seasons, but i can't watch them coz they're avi and they wont let me please help!
The file is send as audio/mpeg and that usually should be sufficient to make Firefox select a plugin that handles the file.<br />
Probably a MIME type as application/x-mplayer2 will also work to select a WMP compatible player as most users on Windows won't have QT.
Does QT work otherwise correctly for you when playing embedded content?

Is there only a problem with users on a Mac or with other platforms (Windows/Linux) as well?

If there's some kind of patch or something, please give me the url/link!Try Perian (free). It contains a collection of popular PC codecs which may or may not support the specific files you want. If not, you have to determine what particular codec is required, find out if it is available, and then download/install it. (Not all AVI audio/video file formats have been ported for Mac use.) Even then, if it is a proprietary codec and you want to be able to convert to/from that format, you may have to purchase/register the component. -

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

i have two AVI MOVIE one plays the other not. every time the problem occurs i am brought here.
If they were both made in the same way, the movie which won't play is corrupt. Otherwise, download the free MPEG Streamclip and install the component it says is needed to play the movie.

Can't Play AVI movie with QT 7.1
I am unable to run this particular avi movie, Rendezvous, which I downloaded to my G5. All I get is a white background and a very intermittent/jerky sound. Also the total time of the movie gets doubled with QT Player which may account for the screwy sound.
When first launched the following notification comes up:
Some necessary QuickTime software is missing. It may be available on the QuickTime Web Site. .......
The referenced site has a lot of codecs but I have no idea which one I need.
It plays just fine with VLC.
What do I need to add to QT 7.1 in order to play that particular movie? I have QT Pro 7.1 and the mpeg2 update.
G5 Dual-core 2GHz, 2G RAM, 250G HD, 22" Display, Mac OS X [10.4.6], 200/160GB FW, QT 7.0.4 Pro, Canon S400, i850 & LIDE 50, Epson R200, iVMP 3.0.2Oddly enough, prior to downloading the video in question, I had just done a clean install of my OS, so no components were in the Quicktime Folder of my Library.
I downloaded DivX 6 from here:

Now, the only components in my Quicktime Folder (HD > Library > Quicktime) are the DivX6 Encoder and Decoder components.
I just relaunched Quicktime after the components were installed and the video plays fine in Quicktime. Using the converter is not necessary.

Save this to the desk top, do not install it from a temporary folder.

Click on it to run and after it's finished installing restart your laptop and try a Blu-ray.
