HT3777 Boot Camp 3.0 Guide
Am I able to download Boot Camp 3.0 drivers on my Macbook Pro, because I cannot find what version I have. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and it seems that even though I have Windows 7 installed, and I installed it through Boot Camp Assistant, I for sure don't have 3.0, because when I use the Boot Camp 3.1 updater, it does not work.
And if you would read, you would know to insert your 10.6 DVD in while running Windows and run
Apple Setup.exe (3.04) first
There is a guide for 10.6 users

Hi all,
Here are the links for the latest 'important' drivers:
5a. Latest Nvidia driver for GeForce 9600M GT => 186.81notebook_win7_winvista_64bit_internationalwhql.exe
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
5b. Latest WLAN chip driver => Broadcom (4322AG chipset) Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows Vista 5.10.91.8 (14 May 2009) = sp43743.exe
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en &cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3872994&swItem=ob-71357-1&mode=5
NOTE: You will need to manually update the drivers in the windows device manager (select 4322AG chipset) because the installer doesn't overwrite the old drivers from Boot Camp
5c. Lateset Realtek High Definition Audio Codec => VistaWin7R231.zip

Unable to open windows using boot camp. Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk." I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7. It worked a few days ago. Any thoughts, Thank you.
Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows. -
Boot Camp Assistant 5.1.2 & 10.9.3 Broken?
Boot Camp Now Hangs Every Time & Every Which Way
My Fall 2013 installation of Windows 8 was a breeze! I’ve been running Windows 8.1 until a week ago when my internal “Windows” drive was no longer visible as a boot drive. I option-key boot into one of three internal drives:
SSD / 10.9.3
1TB HD / 10.6.8
1TB HD / Windows
Convincing myself that I must have missed something, I’ve studied and re-studied the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide and have read and tried the procedures described in numerous discussions and youtube videos.
Expect that this seems radical but thought it smart maintenance to back up all Windows HD data and reformat the Windows HD. I pulled my SSD (no mess with), booted into Recovery-10.9.3 and installed a clean 10.9.3.
>Put Windows installation DVD in CD drive >Shut down >reboot w/ Option+Command+p+r (reset PRAM) >Reboot 10.9.3
Mac Pro is now configured simply as:
1TB HD / 10.9.3
Windows DVD
32GB Flash
My failed installs with Boot Camp Assistant (5.1.2):
1.
Boot Camp Assistant adds a partition to 10.9.3, downloads and installs Windows support software >system auto reboots >black screen >chimes >grey screen >Windows CD spins up> then spins down >I wait for an hour+ but nothing seems to be going on and grey screen remains. (I never get to the Windows setup phase.)
reboot >launch Disk Utility >remove partition added for Boot Camp >shut down and reboot
2.
Boot Camp Assistant adds a partition to 10.9.3, downloads and installs Windows support software >system auto reboots >I option-key and 10.9.3, Recovery-10.9.3, Windows (CD), and Boot EFI (CD) options are presented >I select Windows but it immediately hangs. (Can’t boot to the Windows Installation DVD.)
reboot >launch Disk Utility >remove partition added for Boot Camp >shut down and reboot
3.
Boot Camp Assistant adds a partition to 10.9.3, downloads and installs Windows support software >system auto reboots >I option-key and 10.9.3, Recovery-10.9.3, Windows (CD), and Boot EFI (CD) options are presented >I select Boot EFI > Windows setup begins >I enter my Windows 8 key >Windows can’t find a drive for installation (even, from within Advanced option, formatting the disk during Windows setup process).
reboot >launch Disk Utility >remove partition added for Boot Camp >shut down and reboot
4.
Purchase AnyToISO for $23 to extract the ISO from my Windows 8 DVD. Easily done.
Edited the info.plist file for Boot Camp Assistant (youtube video VBAQ3CNgfxc) so that “Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk” would list as an option under Boot Camp Assistant’s "Select Tasks" window. Checked all three options. >Selected the fresh ISO file with the installation destination being my 32GB flash drive. Boot Camp downloads and installs latest Windows support software from Apple. >system reboots >black screen >chimes >grey screen >Windows CD spins up> then spins down > I wait for an hour+ but nothing seems to be going on and grey screen remains. (I never get to the Windows setup phase.)
Checking the content of the 32GB flash (now named “WININSTALL”) it contains:
$WinPEDriver$ (folder)
autorun.inf
AutoUnattend.xml
boot (folder)
BootCamp (folder)
Bootmgr
bootmgr.efi
efi (folder)
the .iso file
setup.exe
sources (folder)
support (folder)
>shut down
I option-key reboot >10.9.3, Recovery-10.9.3, EFI Boot (flash drive), Windows (CD), and EFI Boot (CD) options are presented >I select the flash drive Boot EFI >Windows setup begins >I enter my Windows 8 key >Windows can’t find a drive for installation.
The only significant hardware/software differences (between now and my initial installation of Windows) is the progression of OS updates to the current (10.9.3) and the current version of Boot Camp Assistant (5.1.2).
Other recent procedures:
-verified my HD
-repaired permissions
-reset PRAM
For most install attempts I let Boot Camp Assistant build the partition. However, I’ve also tried adding a second partition manually w/ Disk Utility to make room for Boot Camp and Windows support software.
Do I need to regress to 10.8? IF that’s what was on my Mac Pro when received Fall 2013, it worked just fine!
What a nightmare!
I’m going crazy here!
What am I missing?
Any suggestions appreciated!I've ordered Mountain Lion 10.8 from Apple Store. (Possible that my Mac Pro was not running Mavericks when received.)
Today I downloaded the trial of ntfsmac. It adds "Windows NT Filesystem" and "Windows NT Filesystem (compressed)" to Disk Utilitie's format options. I formatted a 1TB internal HD with "Windows NT Filesystem."
Shut down Mac Pro >pulled all drives and placed the 1TB internal HD in bay 1 (Windows install DVD is in disc drive). Reboot to Windows and proceed through first pages of setup but dead end as with previous installations:
Where do you want to install Windows?
Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 1
Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 2
I select "Drive Options (advanced)" and format partition 2.
outcome: "Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 2" -
Boot Camp wont install 64 bit Windows 7 on iMac 2012
Hello guys,
I just bought the iMac 27" Late 2012 and im looking into installing Windows 7 via bootcamp.
At first I downloaded 32 bit Windows from DigitalRiver and tried to install Windows it then let me know that 64bit Windows was required. So I went ahead and downloaded the 64 bit Windows 7 and tried again but it is still giving me the same issue as before "BootCamp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform..."
What can I do about this?Hi billbennettnz,

Can I use a downloaded (ISO) version of Windows with Boot Camp?
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 and later), MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 and later, including Retina models), Mac mini (Mid 2011 and later), and iMac (Late 2012) can install downloaded (ISO) versions of Windows 7 and 8.
To determine if your Mac supports this feature:
Click the Go menu and choose Utilities.
Open Boot Camp Assistant.
Click Continue. If you see a "Create a Windows 7 or later install disk" checkbox, your Mac supports the use of downloaded (ISO) install images. See the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide for more information.
I hope this information helps ....

Boot-camp assistant won't recognize my DVD-RW
So I have put a DVD-RW on so it could burn the Windows 7 to my DVD. I've seen a lot of answers to this question but it doesn't quite work.
I've a iMac 21' and tried to do this quite many times. What I do is I put the DVD in, start installing and then it automatically burn the DVD for me, but after I chose the partition for the Windows it won't install it further and gives me a error about my DVD is not inside and it takes a few seconds for it to recognize the DVD, but I've been waiting for a long time. Any solutions? The "lot of answers" all usually have one thing in common:
Burn Windows 7 or 8 ISOs are the slow 2x speed possible w/ verify.
Anything else with using Disk Utility to do the burn or even BCA do fail.
Copy the ISO to your disk and try using that to write the ISO to (another) USB device.
Instructions for the Air: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407
download a free iso burning program for Mac (we used SimplyBurns Mac).
That program runs you through the necessary steps to properly burn the iso file you need.
After doing so, Bootcamp recognized the installation file and everything worked as it should.

If for some reason you downloaded Windows from Microsoft instead of buying a package with a disc, you need to download the ISO version and burn it to a DVD. See this article on downloading the ISO:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/windows-7-iso-x86-and-x64-official-direct-download -links-ultimate-professional-and-home-premium/ (Make sure you choose the ISO that matches the version you bought).
Here's instructions on burning an ISO with Disk Utility:

And this thread on burning a Windows DVD in OSX:

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows
After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.
The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed WindowsLogo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.
If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you mustrespond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.
Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.
4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New HardwareWizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).
5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers
If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1 Start up your computer in Windows.
2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed WindowsLogo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.
To reinstall a specific driver:
1 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
2 Quit AutoRun if it opens.
3 Using Windows Explorer, locate the driver that you want to reinstall.
4 Open the driver to start the installation. -
Help with boot camp partition on leopard!
So I wanted to increase my partition disc size, because I ran out of space. So I restored it and started the whole process over again, using like 75 out of the 102 gigs of free space. This time, something went wrong. I window came up and said:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use the disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended(journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
All I want to do is repartition it... I need help plz, thanks. Oh and I assumed the big files were obstacles so I deleted some 1-6 gig stuff I used to use not anymore(not any system stuff either) but that didn't work. Help!I bought a new MacBook today with Leopard. I tried to install Windows XP (with service pack 2). I chose 32GB for windows. When I clicked start installation the screen went white, the windows CD was ejected and nothing else happened.
I had to switch it off manually and then I tried to restart the MacBook. The screen was just black.
I just read this:
+This means that the Windows partition is not bootable, usually because of a formatting problem. The Boot Camp Setup Assistant creates the Boot Camp partition, but the Windows installer must format it. Boot back into Mac OS X and re run the Boot Camp Setup Assistant. Remove the partition and re create it. Then install Windows again, this time allowing Windows to format the partition. Refer to the "Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide" PDF document for more detail on installing Boot Camp.+
I couldn't reboot it into the Mac OS X so I went back to PC World and created merry ****.
They blamed me and I blamed them and said there was a formatting problem. I left the MacBook with them and they said they would try and install windows XP for me. I collect it today.
What do I do if they can't get windows on there as I don't really understand what I read above so will need something a bit clearer....step-by-step.
Can anyone help me please? -
Can't partition during Boot Camp for Windows 8?
I am trying to install Windows 8 on my early/mid-2011 MacBook Pro. I am using the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide, but when I get to the area of partitioning the hard drive, I am choosing around 60GB and clicking next. After a minute or so, it is telling me that this drive cannot be partitioned?
I am not as savvy on the Mac as PC (switched from the Dark Side in early 2011), so I was wondering if the MacBook hard drive needs degragmented so thatjak9498 wrote:

Backup your user data files off the machine to a storage drive (not only TimeMachine as it might fail to restore) and disconnect everything else.
Reboot the computer and hold command option r keys down (wired or built in keyboard) on a Ethernet conection to your router or modem (power off/on modem to reset) use Disk Utility there to Repair your internal drive.
Reboot the machine normally.
Use Disk Utility and select the internal Macintosh HD partition, then click Erase Free Space (Zero) and move the slider one space to the right and Erase. You can't erase the entire Macintosh HD while booted from it, so your data is safe, this will only erase the FREE space. This will take some time so let it complete.
Next head to BootCamp and attempt to partition again, if it fails, then see this User Tip of mine to shift OS X data up.
BootCamp: "This disc can not be partitioned/impossible to move files."
If your still having problems, it's likely a bad drive and or a gltich in the 10.8.3

Boot Camp failure installing windows??
Hi all, I have been trying to install windows for few days now with no success.
I have a Macbook Pro (Uni) 17" with OS X 10.6.8 and boot camp 3.0.4. Started few days ago by partitioning the hard disc, assigning 35 gigs for the windows (to be) partition without a problem.
Next step was either selecting to download or instert DVD for the installation. First option with the downloading continuously failed and couldn't find any software to download. The other option (inserting the DVD) was also a failure. Tried to connect a USB stick with the windows installation disc on it but the computer still didn't recognize it.
Also tried restarting while holding the ALT key but I get no options for a start drive other than the Macintosh HD.
Can anyone please help out because it is sort of becoming a pain with all the hassle.
Do I need to install a different Boot Camp Assistant? Do I need to update anything?
Thanks in advanceHello zeeman,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying ot install Windows on your MacBook Pro. I recommend reviewing the steps in the section titled "If Windows didn’t install properly" on page 11 of the Boot Camp Installation and Setup Guide:

I want to use my mac mini as a stand alone hardawre for windows 8. If it is possible please help with what to do...
Backup / clone Mac OS X to another drive for safe keeping.
Boot from Windows 8 DVD and just format the entire drive, make sure to have everything else not needed unpugged.
Nothing hard.
What is Boot Camp 5?
Boot Camp 5 is not a release of OS X software. Rather, it is a release of the Windows Support Software (drivers). You will need to use this software on your Mac with Windows 8 or Windows 7. For more information on Boot Camp 5, see thttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT5639

but can't seen to find the disc. Does it even come with the computer??
In the OSX BootCamp Assistant did you download the "Windows Support Software" (aka BootCamp Windows Drivers) and installed them after the Windows Installation ?
The Boot Camp - Installation & Setup Guide (OS X Lion) describes how-to do this.
OSX 10.7 Lion does not come on a disc.

How to erase Windows partition with Boot Camp
I used Boot camp to create windowsXP partition, but windows got corrupted and I want to go back to zero by having boot camp erase the windows partition. The boot camp instruction setup guide says to open boot camp assistant, Introduction window and click on the third category " Restore the startup disk to a single volume". However, when I open Boot Camp Assistant there is no Introduction window as shown in the printed guide. Where do I find this so I can restore to a single volume again?
iMac Intel Mac OS X (10.4.8)Try downloading the brand new Boot Camp version that Apple just posted within the past week (1.1.2 IIRC). Install the new version and it should give you the introduction screen again where you can remove the Windows partition.

Boot Camp fails saying 64-bit Windows 7 .iso is 32-bit
I've a Windows 7 Home Premium licence. According to Microsoft, the correct .iso for 64-bit Windows 7 home premium is X17-58997. And yet when I try to install this using Boot Camp, the Assistant tells me this is NOT a 64-bit version of Windows and can't be installed.

Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf
1 Open Boot Camp Assistant, located in the Other folder in Launchpad.
2 Select the option to install Windows, select other options you need, then click Continue.
Here are the other options you can choose:
If you want to install Windows from a USB flash drive and you have a Windows ISO image, select the option to copy the image to a USB flash drive. If this option isn’t available, your Mac doesn’t support installing Windows from a USB flash drive.
If you haven’t already downloaded the Windows support software for your Mac, select the option to download it. In a later step, you’ll install the Windows support software on your Windows partition.
3 Follow the onscreen instructions for the options you selected.
4 When you’re asked to create a Windows partition, specify a partition size.
If you need help determining the best size for your Windows partition, refer to your Windows installer documentation. For Windows 8, create a partition that is at least 30 GB.
In a later step, you’ll format the Windows partition.
5 Insert the installation disc for the 64-bit version of Windows into your Mac’s optical drive or external optical drive, or insert the USB flash drive with the 64-bit version of Windows into a USB port on your Mac.
6 Click Install.
Boot Camp Assistant creates the Windows partition, restarts your Mac, and opens the Windows installer.
