I would like to export an image from my aperture library so that end result would be less than 400 kb! Where can I set the size of my exports in kb?

There is no specific settings for the end file size on disk.
Typically, you use the image export dialog to select your size (this is image dimension not file size) and then adjust the 'Quality' slider up or down as needed to increase or reduce the file size on disk.
You may need to do this a couple times until you can dial in the end file size on disk.
Look in 'Aperture menu > Presets > Image Export' for the various options. You can create your own custom settings by clicking the '+' button below the left pane in dialog and selecting your settings. This setting is 'sticky' and will be the default until changed by you.

How to export image data into XDP

Hi, All
I'm working on a healthcare project that needs to export the doctor's signature image into XDP file from the database to fill in the Insurance company claim form. My question is how to export image data into a field node in the XDP file, we know the name of the image field which defined in the PDF form, Is it something like:
the signature image data ?
Should the image data in this node be base64 encoded or text encoded or something else?
Can the image be any kind? e.g. BMP, PNG, JPEG, ..., etc?

Document will be of ASCII characters right?? but image data will be in binary format. as per database concept it is stored as binary large object. But in datawarehousing the back end is also going to be some database such as Oracle or other DBs.
which can take blob's. so it would be possible to store the binary data.
If any one has faced this situation can reply.to this ques.
can post the step to load image(jpg/bmp or any image format) data in to info cube??

How to export images with Project Name to be visable by Photo Mechanic.

Hello all,
I am trying to create another complete set of my images, that can be edited by outside programs (Photo Mechanic and/or Lightroom). I am doing this by exporting the images out of a managed library. I want the Aperture "*Project name*" and Rating fields to be passed to Photo Mechanic. And then I want PM to be able to do queries on the Metadata fields containing the Aperture Project Name and Rating. My intention is to use Photo Mechanic to rename the images and relocate the images but still keep track of the Rating and Project Name.
In Aperture, when I add a custom metadata item under IPTC and export the image, that custom metadata item does not show up in PM or Bridge for that matter.
How can I export images and have the Rating and *Project Name* be exported and visible in PM or LR or Bridge?

There is not an easy way but Ian Wood's tool might help you out.
Personally I would just use the "subfolder format" drop down options available in all of the export and relocate dialogs to sort them into directories that are based on Aperture project name - easy enough considering those other tools use file system based folders for there organization structure anyway.

How to export images at 5x7 at 72dpi for sure?

Hi All,
I'm creating an CD with my portfolio and I have to send all images formatted to 5x7 inches at 72 dpi. I want to make sure I did this 100% correct before I send it out.
I exported from Aperture 3.03 with settings at JPEG Original Size, 72 dpi, and dimensions at 5x7 inches. When I look at the images with Preview, the images are at 360 x 504 pixels, which I read online are the appropriate dimensions for 5x7.
My sense of doubt kicks in because the images on my monitor are not the same as an 5x7 print. In fact, when using a ruler to measure on-screen dimensions, the resized images are about 5.5 inches wide, 3.75 inches tall, and 6.5 inches diagonally. Is this right? I'm simply afraid the images are too small...

If you chose the JPEG - Original Size preset, Aperture does not change the pixel dimensions from the original - that is unless you edited that preset to change the Size To: setting from Original Size to something else.
If you create an export preset and set the Size To: setting to Fit Within (Inches), then a combination of the Width and Height and DPI settings control the pixel dimensions. If this is what you did, then you did not really use the JPEG - Original Size preset as it was delivered by Apple.
BTW, the pixel dimensions you stated above are indeed a 5x7 image at 72DPI.
5 x 72 = 360
7 x 72 = 504
I agree with Jeffrey that you cannot determine the size on screen unless your display is also set to 72DPI. Or in Photoshop there is a View Print Size command that would do it if you properly tell Photoshop your display's true DPI ahead of time. Preview doesn't have that capability.

Are you exporting as a PNG or exporting as a JPG?
JPG doesn't support transparency so you'll have to export as a PNG and check the Transparency box.

How to export images from 8i

I have successfully imported a couple of pictures from a file system and can display them on a webbrowser.
Now I want to export them but the method image.export(ctx, 'FILE', 'IMGDIR', 'joe.gif')
creates a lot of cryptic error messages.
What could be wrong? Has anyone noticed the same?
I am thankfull for any hint or advice.

Just to confirm: the export method for the built-in FILE source type in the interMedia ORDImage/Audio/Video object type APIs is not implemented in versions prior to 8.1.7. To use the export method, you must have Oracle 8.1.7 or later. (It is possible to implement your own plug-in to the embedded ORDSource type and implement your own import, export, etc, methods, but it would be a lot of work, and is way beyond the scope of this discussion forum.) With 8.1.6, it would be a simple matter to write a Java application to extract images from the database and write them to a file. For 8.1.5, you'd have to do it with an OCI application, which is more work.

How to export images into folders and subfolders

I've been using Aperture as an orgianizer basically. Now I want to export everything into a sane folder structure, but I haven't been able to figure out a way. Currently I have a setup something like this:
[Folder 1]
--Project 1
--Project 2
--Project 3
[Folder 2]
--Project 4
--[Folder 3]
----Project 5
----Project 6
--Project 7
And I want export everything exactly like that. For example Project 4 and Folder 3 should both be subfolders of Folder 2. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

You can define an export preset for the subfolder names, but I do not think you can get so deeply nested as your structure is. You may have to do several exports, separately for the different parts of your library.

I selected the option to share my Lightroom Gallery online from the Lightroom Mobile App. I can view my images on the web, but theres no option to save/export the photos. I wanted to share the entire gallery easily so that my family may download and print pictures at their convenience.

Can anyone please offer any suggestions or help with this: I need API access to the "Put Images in SubFolder" checkbox in the Export dialogue box. I've tried ExporSettings object, and fw.exporHTMLAndImages() function and neither have it.
I've been coding a custom HTML template and one of the last things that I need to do is to create a custom interface for it. I need a way to export HTML and Images without using the Fireworks Export dialogue box (File > Export or Ctrl + Shift + R).
According to the Docs, fw.exportHtmlAndImages() uses the third argument to either export an image and name it if it's a single image, or export the images into a folder of that name if there are multiple images, but this does not work! Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

How to reorder images within an event

I would like to reorder images in an event which will produce a slide show in the order I desire. Highlight an image and dragging it does not work for me.

Create an album and put the photos from the Event into it. Then you can manually sort the photos into the order you want before creating the slideshow from the album with the Create button in the toolbar:

How to export images with meta data from iPhoto?

I have about 4000 family photos which have been scanned and imported to iPhoto. They are all dated the same day, naturally. I'm now in the process of adding metadata to every photo: location, faces, time and year, file name and description.
Once I have gone through every photo, I will put them into albums based on events and the meta data above.
Eventually, I will want to share all these photos with people who should like to see them (and who are not tech savvy...) I'm looking for the best approach to do to this.
1. Will all the metadata that I have added remain in the photos when I export them?
2. What exactly is the best approach to export these 4000 photos?
- As I have gone through all the hard work of sorting the photos in albums, is it possible to export these photos in the albums that they already in?
