Can't locate my original Aperture DVD. The application crashed after installing the latest upgrade. Most of the troubleshooting discussions say the only solution is to reintall the application but I can't find the Aperture DVD and the app store recognizes that I already have Aperture. An alternate solution would be appreciated. Thank you.

Before you reinstall, move the Aperture application to the Trash. Then the AppStore will not find it.
Use the Trial to reinstall, when you cannot find your cds.
See this knowledge base article by Apple:

After installing the trial it is important not to try to launch Aperture, but immediatly to upgrade using software update.
Once you are running Aperture 3.4 again, repair your Aperture library.

Do you still have the Aperture 2 and Aperture 3 registration codes? Then you can download the Trial installer and use that to install Aperture on your new Macbook.

Need to reinstall aperture. Hard drive crashed!!! I have the key for aperture 3.0 but I can not find anywhere to download it. What do I do?

Even if it works with a least expensive app, there is no guarantee it will work with anything else. This advice is a call-driver to iTS which causes the customers to be frustrated as to why they are charged again. I've also seen iTS refuse to refund as this will be considered an ACCIDENTAL purchase!
I agree it MAY work, and it MAY not. We are gambling here. I would contact iTS first, and discuss it with an advisor first before burning 80 bucks.

I've lost the original DVDs from the Technical communication Suite 2.0.
I've contacted Adobe systems & they sent me the TCS 2.5 Backup DVDs.
With the 1st DVD there is no problem.
Since in Version 2.5 following softwares have new versions,
Captivate 5
Photoshop CS5
the problem is, I have the license for TCS 2.0 which supports
Captivate 4
Photoshop CS4
& during the installation of Adobe Photoshop CS5 "Backup DVDs TCS 2.5",
I get the message:
- This serial number is not valid for this product. -
I also received another download version of Photoshop CS4 from Adobe,
but the Serial number "TCS 2.0" does not wort.
I guess the Photoshop CS4 is standalone, & that's why it does not work.
Since 2 weeks ago, I've been calling Adobe systems, & yesterday I just gave up.
Untile today I saw this forum & thought to give it a try.
Adobe does not have the Backup DVDs for TCS 2.0.
Adobe has sent me the Download Version of TCS 2.5 & Backup DVDs. They do not work as I mentioned.

Back then in 2009 the company got 20 exemplar of TCS 2.0 30 Day Trial Version & sent them to their customers. I wrote them & explained the situation & happened to be lucky. In fact the got 1 of them left.

During the installation, there is a step, which asks whether you want the software as Trial “30 Day” or put your serial number. There was no problem with my license “Had registered under my name.” & I’m enjoying it.

Could you please tell me how to re-install Aperture from the begining e.g. I have to put the SN again?
The problem is the program does not recognize my SN after the updates and I have no idea why. I bought this program through academic version.

James, if you need to reinstall the program, you are going to have to remove all Aperture related programs, folders and files, including plists and anything else that has Aperture in it. A file that the install program looks for is still on the system, and when the installation sees it, it goes into upgrade mode. Once you get rid of these files, the installation should work like a new install.
Do a search on all Aperture names files and see what you come up with. This should be pretty straight forward. This isn't Windows where things get written all over the disk, including the registry, and is almost impossible to remove.

Satellite A25-S279: How to reinstall XP with Ghost DVD without internal drive

I have tosbhia satellite a25-s279 and the toshiba ghost dvd.
My internal dvd drive is broken (w/ some difficult, it can play some audio cd's some of the time. it doesn't recognize any cd-rom nor dvd). I also have external pioneer dvd writer dvr-s606 (connect to satellite via usb). I want to reinstall xp.
The Bios is 1.10, the chipset is ALi M1672 rev 0. You have option of booting off HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, and LAN.
I think you also have option of bootin off pc-card, but this is not in Bios.
It appears (from reading these forums) that my satellite does not support booting off the external drive, so i can't use the ghost disc?
I found another website suggesting make usb stick bootable and load xp from the memory stick.
However, reading these forums, it also appears that this is not possible w/ my satellite?
I guess I can buy a replacement internal dvd drive, but these seem extremely unreliable, and i already have functioning external drive.
any other advice would be appreciated.

That's correct. The external USB CD/DVD drive is not bootable and you will be not able to boot from the CD

No, its not possible to boot from the USB stick. BIOS does not support this boot option
I think the only way is to buy an internal supported drive and then to boot from the CD.
You could also try to boot from the LAN but this is not easy and you will need an RIS server.
I think this is not a really solution.

How to reinstall OS with dead DVD drive?

Hi everyone. I recently upgraded to a new MacBook, and have an iBook G4 which I want to sell. Unfortunately the DVD drive has died in it. I put it in target disk mode, hooked it up to the MacBook, did a secure wipe of the hard drive, and then (mistakenly) thought I could run the installer from my MacBook and install a fresh copy of the OS on the iBook. You used to be able to do this sort of thing back in the old OS9 days, but when I try and boot the old installer on my MacBook it says that it can't be used on this machine, and when I try and run the installer on the MacBook it tells me to reboot the machine.
Is there any way to do this? Or am I going to have to replace the DVD drive before I sell it?

I understand the concept, but will that work? This is an Intel machine, whereas the iBook is Motorola. I have a PowerPC Tiger installation disk. If I try and install it the MacBook thinks I'm trying to install a PowerPC OS and won't let me do it. If I use the MacBook install disk it will (I believe) install an Intel OS on a PowerPC computer. (Or will it install a UB OS?)
I even went into the individual installers at Install/Disk/Installation/Packages/ and ran OSInstall.mkpg. This boots, but when it gets to the list of disks it won't let me install on any external drives, saying "Mac OS X cannot start up from this volume," presumably because I'm trying to install a PowerPC OS.

Delete the Aperture app from the Applications folder. Then you'll be able to buy it from the App store.
Any libraries you have will work (after upgrading them) with the paid app.

How to reinstall safari from original disks

Brand new Macbook Pro, 2 wks old; Safari won't open links in Mail, and I got one error message instructing me to re-install it from the original system disks. But, under "Install bundled apps" on the original disk #1, there is no safari in the package, even under "Customize." The only other option is to install the entire system + apps all over again.
I'm celebrating 20 yrs of mac use this year but am new to leopard and being cautious.

If this is a new machine, and you are having problems that might indicate "broken" software, you probably have a disk error. This is quite common with new computers (Mac or otherwise), and the reason why many prefer too format (erase) a new computer's hard drive right away, then reinstall the system software themselves.
Even though it will take much longer, and you can use the link I have given to install just Safari, I am going to recommend you erase that hard drive and start over.

Siri is builtin with the iPhone 4S, so you cannot delete Siri.
Have you check Settings > General > Restrictions: should be OFF > Siri: ON?

BTW, there's no Siri app, you start Siri by pressing the Home button a bit longer.

How to reinstall pacman when pacman is broken

Some users had pain during the move of the openssl rebuilds to the main repos. Often this seems to be because they were upgrading against mirrors that hadn't fully synched. For whatever reason, some users found themselves with a broken pacman, and didn't know how to fix it. The solutions have been posted in several places. I'm making this new thread for easy reference. I don't know if anyone is still going to need it for the current round of upgrades. But the principles are simple and really should be known by the typical Arch user.
The basic idea is: get ahold of the necessary packages, either from your cache or by downloading it. Manually untar them onto your root. Then you should have a working pacman binary. Then use that to *reinstall* the packages to make sure your pacman db is in synch with what you actually have on your system.
Here's a script that would have worked to fix a broken pacman during the openssl upgrades:

Download the newest source for wget on another computer and copy it to a usb flash drive.
(http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/wget/wget-1.12.tar.bz2)
Plug it to the computer that runs Arch and mount it to /mnt, then:
#cd /mnt
#tar xfj wget-1.12.tar.bz2
#cd wget-1.12
#./configure --without-ssl && make && make install
On my system it installed to /usr/local/bin/wget
Download Profjim's script (I hadn't X installed)

I had to have my hard drive replaced a little while ago and I had bought iWork online. I bought it before my hard drive was replaced and then when I got my computer back it was obviously not there. I was given an email but we have been unable to find it. It wasn't my fault that my hard drive broke down. It wouldn't restart and wouldn't turn on so they had to totally replace it.
