HT3819 Can 1 user delete unwanted music or will it affect all the computers on home sharing?

I turned on homesharing between our 3 computers. I would like to get rid of some of my husband's music files; he would like to get rid of some of my audio books. If we delete files on 1 computer - will it affect the other?

No.
Deleting files only deletes them on the computer you are deleting them from.

  • Why can't I delete unwanted apps from 4.2.1? The icons shake but the little x's are gone!

This just happened!  I wanted to get rid of an app - as I've done for the past two years - by holding down the app until it shakes...  But the little x's in the top left corner have vanished!  Is this some sort of update?  How do I delete apps on the iPod now?  Thanks

You're welcome, you are going to need these settings the next couple of years, I set it up for my 12 year old, to prevent app installation or removal on his iPod

  • If I delete my iCloud backup will it wipe all the content from my phone?

If I want to delete my iCloud back up to clear the iCloud memory, will it delete the content on my phone? I want to delete it then back it up again hoping I'll have more iCloud space available afterwards but I don't want to lose everything!
    Thanks

Delete iCloud backup will not erase data in iPhone. After deletion be sure that you have all your space available before make a new backup.

  • HT3819 do the computers for home sharing of iTunes have to be in the same building?

Can you use home share at three separate locations (cities) within the same network?

They would need to be on the same wifi network.

  • If I delete logic pro 9 will I lose all the loops for logic pro X?

I want to make space on my computer and right now I have logic 9 and logic X both installed. I think I heard somewhere that if you delete Logic 9 than you delete all of the loops in Logic X, is this true?

If you mean... delete the Logic Pro 9 app then no you wont lose any loops... However, the LP9 app is small and really won't save you that much space if you delete it..
If you mean uninstall Logic Pro 9 plus all it's content after installing LPX then yes, you could lose some loops/content because the LPX installer takes notice of any LP9 content you have already installed.
In otherwords, don't try and uninstall LP9 and it's content after installing LPX

  • I deleted all the music on my iPhone, but all the albums still exist. How do I clear and add a fresh batch of music?

I deleted all the music on my iPhone, but all the album artwork still exist. How do I clear and add a fresh batch of music?  Also my iTunes no longer recognizes my iPhone under the "devices" tab so I am unable to manually sync. I have disconnected it makes a beep sound when reconnected so I know my computer is finding the phone, the iPhone also appears on Explorer. Stupid question but I can't figure it out and wasting too much time.  Thank you.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything on the new one.
If for some reason you have failed to backup, big mistake, then you can transfer itunes purchases from the iphone to the computer:  File>Transfer Purchases
You may be able to buy a 3rd party program to get any other music off of the iphone ( not supported by Apple).
When you sync the iphone, it will erase the current content and replace with content form the new computer.
"Not happy with itunes right now, more then a bit of a joke"
Not itunes fault that you did not do the very basics and maintain a backup copy.

  • I've updated to the most recent version of iTunes and I can no longer see any of my old music on my mac.  All the music is still available on my ipad.  How can i download the music on my mac?

I've updated to the most recent version of iTunes and I can no longer see any of my old music on my mac.  All the music is still available on my ipad.  How can i download the music on my mac?

First, are you positive it is really not there?  Have you looked in your iTunes folder in your Music folder, and in the media folders there? Do you see your media files?
If your media are gone it is a lot easier to restore from a proper computer backup.  Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • HT202213 I have two computers with home sharing on, but I can't transfer music. What do I do?

I have two computers with home sharing on, but I can't transfer music. What do I do?

What do you mean by "won't pick up the songs"?
You can only sync with one iTunes library. However, you can manage mauic and videos among different computer by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
You can transfer iTunes purchases to a computer by:

  • Can you transfer music and audio books between computers via home sharing?

I just reformatted my iMac and would like to restore some music and an audio book from my MacBook Pro. Somehow, I got the audio book onto my MacBook Pro, which was originally downloaded to my iMac, but now I can't seem to transfer it back.
    Thanks,
    Paul

I figured it out. Home sharing was not activated on the iMac, even though I could see both computers on each computer. I tried to transfer all my music from the iMac to my MacBook Pro before I wiped everything off the iMac, but couldn't figure it out. I with I knew that before I reformatted it. I do, however, however, have everything backed up on disks. iTunes is one of the most confusing programs I've ever used...

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Most other stuff by the third-party programs discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
However, your app data such as saved games will be lost unless you have a backup file from your old computer.

  • TS4040 Safari giving me headaches. Can't delete bookmarks, etc. Must force quit all the time

I have a Mac OS X  Lion. I have tried several suggestions as to how to fix my Safari problems...and none have worked.
Months ago, I took my computer to the Apple store, they wiped the hard drive, loaded Lion operating system. I reinstalled everything that had been saved on Carbonite and have been having trouble with Safari ever since.
Can I reinstall Safari? Or/and what must I do to delete bookmarks?
Thanks, in advance, for all the suggestions. Most appreciated.  Jan

Sorry, I should have added this error message that I get when trying to move the rejected clips to the trash:
The operation could not be completed. * -[NSPlaceholderMutableDictionary initWithObjects:forKeys:]: number of objects (0) not equal to number of keys (4)
Perhaps this will help someone with nailing down what the issue is.
    Thanks again.

  • I want to search Time Machine for an appointment that has been deleted from my current view of iCal.  Can I "restore" a previous version of iCal without losing all the entries I've made to the calendar since that prior date?

No. I tried it on my Time Machine (I had just made one change today, so I knew I would not be left in the lurch if I failed) and when I clicked on restore I got this message:
It seems you have several options.  I chose 'Keep Both'.  I suggest that you proceed with your search.
    Ciao.

  • I have imac, macbook, ipad2, 2 iphone 4s and I want to share music, iphoto and apps between all the devices but keep e-mail and contacts separate and use icloud. How can I do that?

i have imac, macbook, ipad2, 2 iphone 4s and I want to share music, iphoto and apps between all the devices but keep e-mail and contacts separate and use icloud. How can I do that?

The ID for iTunes must be the same on both devices for it to automatically download purchases made on the other phone.
For example, if you have been using [email protected] for iTunes, continue to do so. One of you could also use [email protected] for their iCloud account and the other one use [email protected] for theirs, alternatively you could use [email protected] and [email protected] for the two separate iCloud accounts.

  • This morning, my iPad screen didn't respond to my touch commands. It displays mail, but I can't move the screen, can't delete an incoming item. Nothing. All the other screens work normally -- just no response to mail.

Have you tried closing the Mail app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • How do I transfer non-iTunes music files from my iPad to my MacBook using home sharing?

My MacBook Pro hard drive recently had to be replaced by Apple, because it quit for some reason they couldn't identify. However, now my ipad2 doesn't recognize my macbook pro and I have at least 200 music files in my library on my iPad that I did not get from iTunes. I need to upgrade my iPad to iOS 5 but I also don't want to lose all those music files. I was hopeful I could use home sharing to sync my iTunes libraries, but I can't figure out how to export files from my iPad. Please help, anyone?

I was hopeful I could use home sharing to sync my iTunes libraries,
Unfortunately, you can only stream content to your iOS devices via home sharing (not sync it).
