What do I need the Computer certificate for in an Active Directory domain? Theoretical Inquiry
So we are trying to clean up the thousands of certificate we have deployed. We are on a 2008 R2 Active Directory and have been using certs for about a decade. With all of our machines auto enrolling in Computer certificates and renewing every
year we have maybe 50,000 certificates, yes some are expired already but its a nightmare to manage. So what do we need the Computer certificate on all the Windows machines for anyway, some are XP most are Windows 7.
Is the Computer certificate required for Kerberos authentication?
If we don't need it I rather stop publishing the Computer template and simplify our lives.
Please explain (I am not new to PKI, though this question may make me seem like a novice) I get the Web Certs, EFS, etc.Computer certificates are not needed for Kerberos authentication.
They are typically used for 802.1x WLAN or wired authentication, or they might be used for VPN logon. Then you might used them for IPsec / "domain isolation" or perhaps DirectAccess or related solutions by other vendors.
So they are needed for some sort of "network isolation" but they are not required for default AD operations. With some the mentioned scenarios (e.g. 802.1x / IPsec) you have the choice to pick either certificates or other credentials.

I have Win Vista. After I upgraded Firefox to 8.0 a window is popping up and continually saying Firefox needs the computer to restart to finalize installation. I've done the restart when prompted - the next time I start up the computer it does it again, same message.
Just went down this road. Bought two new iPhones last week, one is having this same problem. No help from the store, no help from apple. Re-setting, re-booting, updating, all did nothing. Time to move away from apple. When you have to go through as much as we did to try to solve such a very simple issue, after paying so much money, it's definitely time to try a different product. Apple charges a fortune, yet they provide the same ridiculous service as everyone else. Why get hosed?

I bought a used macbook pro from a friend. Software updates are available, but when I try to update, the computer asks for apple id and will only accept the former owner´s. How can I connect my macbook to my apple id?
The first thing you should do after acquiring a used computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, it should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them. -

Pages will no longer let me open files that I have previously downloaded, worked on and then saved on my mac. However it will let me open pages documents that I have started from new. I need the other documents to open and can't figure it out. PLEASE
I just got my mac a month ago so go easy on me but I was just working with the pages that was already on it, and then today I know it updated, and now I am unable to open a lot of my documents!:( Idk what you mean by the icloud version lol sorry! As for the version, when I open pages from my apps and click 'about' it says version 5.1? And when I open the document it just goes grey and kind of blinks and doesnt open? No error message or any indication of why it will not open now when I for sure have opened it in the past! Andddd for the OS X I think it is 10.9.1 ??

If you want to use your exisiting Apple ID on your iPad, you need to:
1. Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and sign out the new ID, and then sign on the old one
2. Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and delete the iCloud account, and the sign back onto iCloud using the old ID
You still have not indindated why you are saying that using your old ID originally "didn't work". What do you mean by that? Did you get some sort of error when you tried to sign on with your exisiting Apple ID?

I recently bought two iMac quad core i5 processor speed 2.5 Ghz. Every time I use Air Drop and I send a file from one iMac to the other, a black curtain drops and I am asked to restart the computer!!! What can I do?
That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts. -

Unfortunately logging into your account won't help, because then I don't have access to Illustrator.
I was just trying around a little if you could share it with me, but unfortunately sharing doesn't seem to work with Draw files. You could try and find someone near you who also has an iPad and Illustrator and then try to send it to them via AirDrop. But I don't know if that actually shares the file or just a PNG.
Maybe someone on the Draw forum has an idea how you could send the file to someone else.

They already damaged you Mac by fooling with the BootCamp partition without knowing what they were doing. I wouldn't suggest haveing them help you do anything.

First, see if you can boot into the Recovery HD. Restart and hold down cmd-r until you see the gray screen. It should boot into Recovery. If your Mac shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, it will boot into Internet Recovery if it cannot boot into the Recovery HD on the hard drive.
They should have tried this at the store. -
