HT3819 Home Sharing issue

I have enabled home sharing on both my computers but still cannot see either library on either unit.  Could this be an OS issue?  One has Win 7 and the other has Win 8.  No homegroups have been used and I can see each machine on the opposing network.
Suggestions?

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing Issue (SOLVED for me)

I had been having problems with Home Sharing while other functions (Netflix etc) worked fine.  My setup is wireless using Time Capsule.  My network was "open" (password not needed).  I had tried everything from recycling my DSL modem and Time Capsule and turning Home Sharing off and on (on my computer and the Apple TV) without success.
My Time Capsule has the ability to connect at 5GHz or 2.4GHz.  Additionally, my networks may or may not be password protected.  I finally changed to a network that required a password and my Home Shareing issue ended.  Since that network change everything works fine.

I was going crazy trying to play music from my Itunes library and watch slideshows of my photos as, once started, the application would quit within a minute of starting. I called Apple Support and tried everything they sughgested - restart, restore etc. Finally, I turned my router off and let it reset. When I turned it back on. everything worked. I could have saved a lot of aggravation had I been instructed to do so originally.

  • Potential Solution: Home Sharing issues with iTunes 10.6

TL;DR: On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
    Folks,
Wanted to share my experience with Home Sharing issues after upgrading to iTunes 10.6. These forums a rampant with reports of the issue, so I'll defer to the search field above if you don't know what I am talking about. In short: iTunes 10.6 seems to have busted Home Sharing.
For those who do, here's what I found:
For some reason, is saw a very large number of established sessions from my Apple TV (ATV) into port 3689 on my Mac. This is the port that ATV uses to query iTunes to see what's available via Home Sharing (e.g.: what movies, songs, pictures, etc are available for display on the ATV).
A sniffer cap and some observation of the power indicator on the ATV indicated that while it was sleeping, the ATV was querying iTunes. It would power on for a sec (wake on LAN, maybe?), issue some queries, then sleep.
When this happened, the TCP sessions created were never town down. As such, I would eventually see 200+ established sessions on port 3689. I don't know exactly how many it took to make this happen, but when I saw this, iTunes stopped accepting new connections.
Of course, bouncing iTunes would remedy the issue for a while, but it would return.
On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
I would be interested to hear if it works for others.
    Happy viewing,
    Chris

    Thanks for posting this.
I've been searching for an option of how to approach this problem.
I picked up the new AppleTV when it was released, but it has made iTunes fairly useless from a Home Sharing standpoint.
I also observed the massive number of TCP connections being opened against iTunes, but never closed.
As expected, I could manually kill a few of these connections, and then could connect again, even without closing iTunes.
I performed most of my testing with Windows 7, but while troubleshooting I had the same issue with iTunes on an old Mac Mini I had sitting around.
I will try your solution, which makes a lot of sense, but it would be nice if Apple fixed the real problem.
    Thanks again.

  • HT3819 Home Share issue: I have a Mac and Apple TV. Both are log into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view purchased movies on AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers. Itunes sidebar-no

Has anyone else found solution to Apple devices not 'seeing' each other on Home Share?  I have a Macbook Air (new Nov'12) and Apple TV (new Dec'12). Software updated on both. Both are logged into the same Wifi network and the same iTunes account (I can view movies purchased from iTunes on my AppleTV). Home Sharing shows 'ON' for both devices. BUT...AppleTV shows no computers... and ... Itunes sidebar does not have a 'Shared' area at all.  Help please as without this functionality, my Apple TV only provides portal to purchased (i.e. Netflix,...) content which I can get from Wii or Xbox.
I have already tried the following without success:
    1. Homeshare DID work the first day after I setup Apple TV... but the next day it has not worked since then.
    2. Powered off 30 sec then re-started (Apple TV & Macbook & iTunes login)
    3. Checked Firewall settings per Home Sharing troubleshooting guide (correct settings)
    4. Turning on Photostream in iPhoto and selecting iPhoto within iTunes and then checking to see if Photostream shows anything on AppleTV (it shows 'on' for my iTunes account but 'Zero' pictures found ... despite the >3,000 pictures showing avail in iTunes).
I also have 'Remote" app on my iPhone 4, with Home Sharing turned on (same Wifi network)... it has a very similar message as the Apple TV and same result that despite all devices having HomeShare 'on' they cannot see each other:  "Remote will automatically find the iTunes libraries and Apple TVs that have Home Sharing turned on using the account xxxx (it lists my correct itunes account name)."

  • I am having major Home Sharing issues (disrupting WiFi)

Have done a lot of research on the particular issues Im having and can only find discussions on problems slightly tangential to mine.
Beginning about a week ago whenever I would use home sharing on my iPad or iPhone (streaming through my Mac Pro desktop an an Airport Extreme) the file I would be playing would pause erratically and then start up again.  It would get really bad if I listened to one of the larger files (I download radio show podcasts) and try to jump to the middle of the program - every time the file would just pause and not play and then jump to the next file on the playlist and just hang.
Furthermore, it totally screws up my WiFi....I would have to reset my extreme to get the signal to stop behaving erratically.  I read through tons of posts and tried earlier versions of airport software, resetting my wifi settings, reste my router etc...but all to no avail.
Im a little surprised that Im the only one having this issue since it seems so basic....I turn on home sharing, start using it and bam -- all these wifi issues just start happening.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction for a solution?   Because it is driving me crazy....

you could be suffering from wireless interference.
perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on.
change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • Home Sharing Issues iOS6

I'm having an issue it seems with Home Sharing on my iPhone 5 after recently upgrading to iOS6 v6.1.2.  My network setup is as follows:  I have a 1TB TimeCapsule which is my WiFi access point in addition to storing my iTunes library.  My iMac is connected to the TC via Ethernet.  Wirelessly I have two Windows-based laptops, ATV (2nd gen), an iPad2, a BlackBerry Torch, iPhone 4S and iPhone5.  Until recently, all of my Apple devices were able to access my iTunes library over the WiFi using Home Sharing.  As of now, only my ATV and iPad2 are able to.  When I try to connect with the iPhones, I get an error stating "Cannot Connect to Media Library" about halfway through the connection attempt (little progress circle fills in halfway then stops).  My version of iTunes is 11.0.2.
I have tried resetting everything on the entire network including my cable modem, the TimeCapsule (upgraded to latest firmware), even going so far as to do a restore on the iPhone 5 in an effort to get Home Sharing working again.  Nothing I have tried has worked.  I've siged out of Home Sharing on the iMac and all devices...rebooted...no change.  The option to select my shared library is seen in the iPhone 5 but it just won't connect.  This is extremely frustrating as I often have my iPhone streaming from my iTunes library while I'm in other areas of the house.  For now I've resorted to using Pandora but would really like to have access to my music library.
Is anyone else having this or very similar issues?  I see several posts about Home Sharing but most are older and don't seem specific to the iPhone 5 or iOS 6...regardless, the suggestions in any of those posts didn't solve the problem either.

I am having the same issue.  Same hardware, same OS, same circle stopping halfway through.  When I do get it to connect it doesn't last forever.  I ran an experiment and found that the connection drops when I try to use my bluetooth speaker.  If I am streaming from Pandora the connection is fine, no drop.  But apparently it doesn't play nice with the shared library connection?  Does bluetooth interfere with wifi?

  • Home Sharing issues with iPhone 6 Plus

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with streaming music and video on my iPhone 6 plus from my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model) using iTunes' Home Sharing . I am able to stream without any issues using my iPhone 4S and my Apple TV, however.
I am using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, iOS 8.1.2, and OSX 10.9.5.
Using my 6 plus, I am able to connect to my iTunes library, both music and video. Album art shows up for music but no cover art for the videos. So, all in all, I am able to see the contents of my library.
However, when I try to play songs, a couple things may happen. First, nothing plays for about 10 seconds; then a second or two of the song plays followed by silence again, appearing as if it's buffering. Second thing that may happen is that a second or two plays immediately followed by silence. If I press next to play the next song, what usually happens is that nothing plays, although the song title does appear.
As seen in this video, I don't have any issues with my WIFI connection or internet speed, as demonstrated using the iPhone 4S and Apple TV.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.
Hopefully someone could shed some light with this issue. Please feel free to comment. I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions while Apple tries to find a solution. Thanks.

    UPDATE
So, after working with the guys at Apple, they we were to provide a solution.  Now I have no problems using Home Sharing with my iPhone 6 Plus!!!
(I should add that I have the Linksys Advanced Dual-Band N Router (E2500))
The issue was fixed by giving one of the wi-fi channels a different name, thus splitting the channels into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  Then, I connected my iPhone to one channel (2.4 GHz) and my MacBook Pro to the other channel (5GHz).  In this configuration, I have had no issues streaming my music and video.
It seems that the problem is some kind of interference between both devices when using the same channel (i.e., when both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channel share the same name).

  • Itunes 12.0.1 home sharing issues

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else was having problems with home sharing and iTunes 12.0.1?
My whole house pivots around home sharing, so this was a bit annoying when I couldn't get it to work after installing Yosemite and itunes 12.0.1.  I have apple TV, iPhone 5 (iOS 8.1), iPhone 6 (iOS 8.2) and MacBook Air (OS X).  First noticed this on my iphone 6 trying to play a song from the Mac and I couldn't see the library.  I tried the iPhone 5, couldn't see it as well.  But the apple TV I could see 2 libraries on my Mac (both the same name).  Eventually after turning off and back on home sharing on the iPhones, nothing happened, I could use the remote app to change the TV.  I could even see the Mac library on the phones but, it kept saying I couldn't get access to it.
I quit itunes.  At this point I then lost the ability for Apple TV to gain access to my Mac's home sharing.  Again 2 were being shown, and neither worked.  iPhones still not working.
Then I did an AirPlay from the Mac to the TV and it sprung into life.  TV works and both iPhones, I can see the shared folder in the More section in Music App, wasn't there before.  Also can see the Shared folder in movies, which wasn't there before.
If there is a better way of getting this to work, it would be nice to know.

  • Home sharing issue

I updated to the new iTunes yesterday.........everything was fine in home sharing but today the shared folder for photos in iTunes is not showing up on atv2 although it is accessing them for the scrensaver........go figure.......please any suggestions would me great..........thanks

As soon as I updated to version 4.2.2 (2203) software upgrade for the ATV2 - that ended being able to use Home Share. They have a problem with the networking non standard settings in the Apple TV software unfortunately and as far as I can ascertain - there is no fix other than getting another ATV2 that has a prior version of the software.
Then you run into the issue of it always prompting you to upgrade the software!  It is by far, the poorest implementation of software I have seen from Apple and very very frustrating.

  • I believe I found the fix solving home sharing issues with Windows 7

I was having a problem with my Windows 7 PC while trying to connect iTunes home sharing and my Apple TV.  While speaking to Apple support, the tech told me that home sharing uses port 3689.  I searched the web and found this link explaining how to open a port on your PC.  The issue seems to be with Windows firewall, or the anti virus software controlling the Windows firewall.  I use Norton anti virus so when I opened the Windows firewall selection in the control panel, the Norton window opened and the fix was identical to the one shown in this link.  http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-7/open-a-port-in-windows-7s-firewall/
Follow the instructions on the page and for step #7, enter 3689.  When you get to step #10, I typed in "Apple TV Home Sharing" so I could identify the port later on.  I made these changes, rebooted the computer, started iTunes, turned on the Apple TV and everything worked.  Try it and this should solve what seems to be a common problem.

Solved - at least all good so far.
I had to add rules to my firewall software (Symantec Endpoint Protection) for Bonjour (UDP 5353) and DAAP (TCP 3689).  Once I did that, the other librares were shown in SHARING and the Apple TV reliably connects.
What I don't understand was why it worked at all without the rules in place.

  • Home Sharing issues since iTunes 11.0.5, unable to play movie/tv content it just hangs on the spinning sprocket

Every since my upgrade to iTunes 11.0.5, I have had problems with my AppleTV homesharing with iTunes.  The media, (Movies, TV Shows, etc) hangs on that spinning sprocket/gear wheel or show's the first frame of the movie and never loads or plays.  I have to continually restart the AppleTV or iTunes, sometimes even restarting my iMac or the Network Router.
Does anyone have a work around or solution to this issues, it is making me mental having to restart after each screening.
    Thanks....

  • Home Sharing Issue Windows 7 x64 and Ipad 2 - Please Help!!!

    Hi all,
Having problems getting remote sharing to work. I am able to pair the ipad with my itunes library so obviously they can see and talk to each other but when it searches for the home share it gives message "could not find".
not sure if its relevant but i also cant sync the ipad wirelessly.

Those that have issue with Apple TV will be here those that don't won't because they will be just enjoying themselves.
A few more things to try.
To force quit Remote on your iOS device, double-click the Home button (to view your recently used apps) and then touch and hold the Remote app icon until it begins to jiggle, then tap . Remote is added to recent apps again the next time you open it.
Do you have the latest iTunes 10.5.1?
Is iTunes > Preferences > Sharing tab > Share my library on my local network
    and Share entire library selected.
Is your iTunes > Advanced > Home Sharing turn ON? (Try also to sign off and sign back on again)
Reboot your router (also update your router)
    Is your router WMM On?
Remote uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with your iTunes.  To configure your firewall to add these ports.

  • Apple TV/Home Sharing issue

I was having some remote and keyboard issues so I reset my AppleTV to it's original settings and updated it. Good news is my remote and keyboard are now working fine. Bad news is, none of my Home Sharing is working. My Apple TV and iTunes have Home Sharing turned on with the proper AppleID. When I select "Computers" from the main menu of AppleTV I should be able to see my iTunes library. Instead I get "To access your iTunes library on AppleTV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes..."
My AppleTV has the latest software update, my AirPort is working fine, and I'm running the latest version of iTunes on Mac OS X. I've gone through all of the trouble shooting tips and I'm stumped.
    Help!

  • Home Sharing Issue - deleted movies from one computer show up in other

    Hi Everyone:
I have searched for an answer to this issue, but have yet to find it, which is why I am posting.
I added some mv4 ripped movies to iTunes, but deleted them, moving the file to trash. I do not see them in my iTunes library. When I go into my wife's iTunes and use Home Sharing to access my computer's iTunes, the deleted movies are visible. I have logged out of Home Sharing and logged back in, but they still show up. I want to get rid of them from Home Sharing. If I deleted them on my computer, they should not show up elsewhere.
    Thank you in advance.

I've solved the problem and I wish I could just delete my previous post, but I guess I cannot. The movies I thought were deleted were listed under a different catagory in iTunes, which I found by searching for the file extension in Spotlight. Once I found them, I deleted them and they stopped showing up in Home Sharing.
