HT3819 how to combine 2 separate libraries to one

how does home sharing work when 2 computers have separate apple IDs?

RESOLVED . . . Still looking for an iTunes method of creating 2 libraries on 1 computer.   But if it helps for others, you can use NTFS file permissions to deny access to one folder tree to keep iTunes focused on the other folder tree it can see when you select "Scan for Media".
Then reverse the permissions to create the library for the other folder tree.   When done allow access two both trees and they will then co-exist on one computer.
The only remaining inconvenience . . . I have iTunes Match set up on library "Adults".  If I sign into the Apple store to buy a song or get artwork from library "Kids", iTunes is populated with the "Adult" songs from iTunes Match.  I just have to avoid staying signed into the Store from the "Kids" library, so someone doesn't start downloading "Adults" music into the "Kids" library.
To inform the context of this question, we have 3 Apple portable devices that play from our iTunes Match "adult" library.  We also have "Adult" and "kid" devices that are not Apple, so we just copy the respective folder tree to non-Apple devices.
So the use NTFS DENY permissions works for creating two libraries on a single computer, and it only take a few minutes to do,  BUT FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T SYSTEM ADMININSTRATORS, IS THERE AN "APPLE WAY" TO DO THIS ON A WINDOWS COMPUTER?

  • Multiple iPods - One computer - How do I separate libraries?

I have an Ipod and my Two sons have thier own Ipods. When I hook up I get all of their songs on my ipod.
How do I set up Separate Ipod accounts and have my Ipod go to mine only and not theirs?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Using Windows XP User Accounts

  • How to create 2 separate libraries on one computer ?

I have two music folders (such as "kids" and "Adults") in the "My Music" folder and I want to create 2 separate libraries for managing the music for Kids versus adults.  I cannot figure out how to create a new iTunes library limited to a single folder tree ("kids" for example) . . .  because iTunes only gives the option to "Scan for Media" which is promiscuous and scans everything, regardless of where the library files are created.
I know I can temporariry remove the "kids" folder then create a the "Adult" library.  Then temporariliy remove "Adults" folder and create a "Kids" library, but thats requires hours of file copying to and from an External USB drive.  Once the two libraries are created then they can live together on the same computer . . . but how to get the libraries initially created is the question ?    Maybe I will try NTFS file permissions to make folder 'A' invisible to iTunes while creating the library for folder 'B'.
But there must be an iTunes option to do this . . right ?

RESOLVED . . . Still looking for an iTunes method of creating 2 libraries on 1 computer.   But if it helps for others, you can use NTFS file permissions to deny access to one folder tree to keep iTunes focused on the other folder tree it can see when you select "Scan for Media".

  • How do I transfer Libraries from one computer to the other?

ok i know this might sound like a dumb question but i have no idea how to do it how do i? i downloaded another library onto this computer but it wouldnt transfer any of my songs so how do i transfer libraries??

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. When I moved iTunes a while ago for my daughter I was also using the same version of iTunes, not sure how important that is but it's probably worth keeping them the same.
If you have an iPod it can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

    Hi:
How can I edit MPEG or convert DVD or MPEG to DV
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG
Matti says it better than any of us:
how/where you can join clips with Streamclip
Also MPEG Streamclip guide explains it.
MPEG Streamclip can join similar MPEG files: The joined files must have the same PIDs, the same start codes, and the same audio/video properties (that is, they must come from the same source or channel).
Using "Convert to MPEG" before joining the files can be helpful, because it changes PIDs and start codes to a default value. The preferred method to join streams is to Copy one stream in MPEG Streamclip, open another stream and Paste it there. This method checks that the joined streams indeed are compatible. Another method is to put the MPEGs in the same folder, and rename them so that they sort as desired in list view. Then select them via MPEG Streamclip's "File/Open Files..." dialog box (Shift- or Command-click to select multiple MPEGs). Then choose "Edit/Fix Timecode Breaks". After this MPEG Streamclip should report the combined length of all MPEGs (check the Log Window if you want to know whether any timecode breaks were found). Then choose "File/Convert to MPEG... or /Save As..." to save them in a single file. If the video transition between two files looks bad, you can use the Cut command to improve it. You can join very different and incompatible MPEGs with this latter method so the end result is not guaranteed to work.
MPEG Streamclip can also edit MPEG files. Just set In/Out points (with I/O keys), Cut unwanted material off and choose "File/Convert to MPEG...". You can also Cut/Copy selections to other parts of the same stream or open another compatible stream and Paste it there. Shift-dragging the playhead can also be used to define a selection. Option + arrow keys jump to the beginning/end or In/Out points. You can use the Trim-command to more closely see a part of the video before cutting, then choose Revert Trimming to see all material. JKL-keys can be used to enable fast forward or reverse playing. The scroll wheel works also; with the Option key it scrolls 1 second per click. See the manual for more details on how to jump in single frame, GOP, 1 second, 10 second or 1 minute chunks when searching a specific spot in the video.
Editing and trimming can be accurate only if In and Out are both on keyframes because MPEG Streamclip edits to the GOP, not to the frame. For DVD and (XS)VCD the maximum GOP size is PAL 15 and NTSC 18 frames, so the editing accuracy can be up to about 0.6 seconds. You can advance to the previous or next keyframe (i.e. I-frame, the beginning of each GOP or Group Of Pictures) with the Up/Down arrow keys -- you can also use the Edit/Go to Keyframe command to see where the In and Out points really are when editing (the In point is included in the selection, the Out point is not included). Shift + Up/Down arrow keys allow fine-tuning the selection to the GOP.

  • How to combine video clips into one video clip using FCPX

I typed this into the search engine but could not come up with anything. How do you combine Video clips into one Video clip using FCPX? Thanks in advance.
    Gar

The simple answer is to put the clips together in a project in the desired order and export (oops, the new word is share [YUK!]) a master file.
But maybe you should say a little more about the clips to determine whether the answer I've given is relevant to yor situation.

  • How to combine multiple webservices into one WSDL file

    Gurus,
I have 4 four webservices(ws1,ws2,ws3 & ws4) defined in XI. Normally in XI when we define webservice ,WSDL file will be generated for each interface. Now I have 4 related interfaces, so 4 WSDL files will generated. Suppose if I have 100 webservices then 100 WSDL files need to be generated & need to send to other party to consume our services, which is very tedious task & to track also. So is it possible to combine related webservices into one WSDL file? Your inputs will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Santhosh

    Hi,
Instead of trying to combine the interfaces, you can try to define your interface mapping with 4 sender interfaces with in one interface mapping . I think this may give you the result you are expecting.
If you want entire content to be in one interface , then, define single interface which can accomadate, all message ocntent of all 4 interfaces.Means your sender message to contain the 4 datatypes internally.

  • How to combine movie clips into one?

In one Aperture project I have 5 short (under 1 min) movie clips that I would like to combine into one "movie", and would like to know the quickest and easiest way to do this.  I am not interested in any editing other than combining the clips into one.  Thanks!

In Aperture the only way to combine movie clips is to create a basic slideshow, but you will get better results (stabilization, effects, etc) in iMovie or Quicktime 7, if you have it.
    In Aperture:
Create a slideshow with the "Classic" theme: Select the two video clips in the Browser and use:   File >New > Slideshow
Set the Default Slideshow settings (Transitions, Text, background) as you like them.
Arrange the clips in the Time Line in the order as you want them.
Press the "Export" button in the upper right corner to export a new video. Reimport it to Aperture.

  • How to combine XDCAM clips into one big file for import?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a basic question or just not possible... I'm on location and have to rush edit. I've not worked with xdcam before. Usually I would import all of the media in low-res (one tape at a time), see what I want, then re-import that in high-res.
In xdcam, when I import, I import EVERY single shot as a separate file. I can set ins and outs and just import what I want, but this is laborious to open and close every shot to see if I want it, then mark ins and outs.
Isn't it somehow possible to import everything on the xcdcam disk as ONE single file as you would a "tape" so you can quickly screen it, see what you want, then go back to the individual clips on your xdcam disk and import those in high-res? This would be so much faster!
Many thanks for your help... am in a bind and in a rush!

Ok thanks... that seems to work. It won't actually work for the way we're editing, but in theory had we synced up our workflow from the start...
Re. something new... well I hear what you're saying but I have changed formats several times, used 4 different nlediting platforms so far and not complained. This is the only one that seems much harder especially when you're working with different editors in different countries under tight time pressure.
The brief user guide that I read (and our tutorial instructor at work) told us to import all the little clips and said nothing of combining them... I'm not sure how people could actually work that way and manage dozens of disks' worth of individual shots as files. It would take years to cut an item... and usually we have about 45 minutes to an hour.
    Cheers,
    kim
