HT3819 My Laptop picks up my desktop library but won't allow me to access it??

I am trying to transfer my Library from my desktop to my laptop, I have followed the on screen instructions for Home sharing and can see my desktop library folder in the sharing menu. however i can not access any of the sub menu ie music film etc in the folder in fact they are not displayed. Any help would be appeciated. My desktop is using Windows Vista home premium and my laptop windows 8.

If only some of the songs on an album are giving you the authorisation message, that suggests those song files are damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".

I would try restoring the Nano to factory settings via iTunes. This will clear your iPod's artwork cache and rebuild it. Here are instructions on how to restore your Nano.

I purchased music from Amazon. It downloaded to ITunes Library but won't sync/download to IPod (Nano 4th gen.) Plays with no problem on my Mac Pro but can't get it downloaded to my IPod. How can I resolve?

If you right click on the song it will give you an option such as Create AAC version or Create mp3 version.
To control what option appears Preferences, general.
At the bottom right is a button called import settings. This will start another dailog box where you can choose which encoder to use
Select Mp3 version.
Go back to your song and create an mp3 version and see if that synces

Ringtones are in my library but won't show up in the tones folder

I have iTunes10 and an iPhone 5. The files are the correct format (m4r), they show up in my music library as a ringtone, the tones folder is already showing, but the ringtones do not show up in my tones folder. I have already tried saving the files to the desktop and then deleting them from my music library and then opening the file from the desktop. It automatically adds it back to my music library as a ringtone but does not add it to the tones folder. Does anyone have any idea why iTunes won't allow me to put anything in my Tones folder and nothing will show up in there even if it is the right file format?
Also, because there is nothing in the tones folder when I connect my iPhone there is no tones tab at the top of the screen to allow me to select any syncing options. The tones folder shows on the left side of the screen when I click on the iPhone to expand it but no tab at the top and it won't let me put anything in the tones folder under my iPhone either. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I spent three hours on the phone with Apple Reps last night. They first said that they would have to reinstate ? my permissions, which they did (I had also lost some music) but after an hour of downloads, I still had no tones. Spoke with another Rep and they said if I purchased the Tones on Istore they should show up. I had. They didn't. Then said that it could be the "older" music was no longer compatible and it MUST be purchased through Itunes Store to show up in Tones automatically. So...I bought almost $20 of Tones last night after I hung up, and NONE Of them show up in my Tones folder. I have tried everything. I cannot move them by drag and drop.
This has been an ongoing problem for me for over a year, and so far, I cannot get any help.
I was asked if it was possible if I had different Libraries. I told them I don't know, since I have used Itunes since 2009 (and like the old version much better) and I have never changed my Itunes login or password. I have however, had different computers. I hope someone can help with this issue.

Photos appear in library but won't open properly

I just recently got this new MacBook Pro and got rid of my PowerBook. Before I sold it, I transferred all my data to my Lacie External drive - including my old iPhoto library, iTunes, address book etc.
Everything else but iPhoto has been transferred back successfully. I can see all the photos in the library but when I try to click on them, I get a big gray box with another box composed of white dotted lines and an exclaimation point within it.
What does this mean ? The thumbnails are there but that's it..I can't view them in the bigger window.
Any suggestions ?

This is not an iPhoto 09 library.
And I'm running iPhoto 8.2
There is no iPhoto 8.2
My guess is that this is an iPhoto 6 Library.
If the other versions won't open the Library then it's got a damaged database.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

TS1420 I updated my ipod to 5.1.1 and now it wont sync downloaded music onto my ipod. All the music I purchased through itunes went on the ipod during backup restore and my downloaded music went into my itunes library but won't sync onto my ipod.

I updated my ipod touch to 5.1.1 and did a system restore. All of my purchased music from itunes went back on along with photos and apps but now it won't let me sync music that I downloaded. All of my music that was imported from cd's synced but not my downloaded music from internet. They went into my itunes library but they are a light gray and have a little sync symbol next to them. After you have updated your device to version 5.1.1, have you tried resyncing everything from your iTunes yet?

How can I get bookmarks moved to a new laptop when my old broken laptop can no longer launch Firefox but does still allow access to all of the Profile files such as places.sqlite

My old laptop appears to be a victim of Bit Rot according to an IT person who was here helping me. All of the support material I've seen so far related to moving bookmarks from one computer to another seem to assume that Firefox can be launched on the old computer (which can't be done in my case). I'd like to figure out how to use the files which may hold my extensive bookmark data while the old computer is still allowing me to access those files and save to a removable thumb drive.

Fortunately I seem to have found and still have access to the old Profile files you're mentioning but I don't know how to make use of them such that Firefox on my new computer can incorporate all the data they hold. Again, I'm not able to open Firefox on the old computer. Any ideas how to use these .sqlite files on the new computer to get myself operable how I had been w. Firefox on the old broken one?

Laptop P505D-S8000 went to sleep but won't wake up...

Laptop was put to sleep and now won't wake up. Power, plug & battery lights are on and power switch is lit. No hard drive activity at boot. Fans run than stop. I tried all the known tricks of removing battery & power cord, pushing power button for 60 secs, than powering up with power cord only. This seems to be the fixall for this problem when I searched the web but only seems to work for 1 out of 10 people. I have checked the screen at an angle to make sure the backlight is not out but since I am not getting activity on the hard drive I figured it was OK. I get nothing by trying to boot into setup modes, bios checks or safe mode.
Any last advice other than take it to a toshiba tech? Rick

Unfortunately that fix doesn't always work because these symptoms often represent a hardware failure.
Just to confirm, the power LED (not the AC adapter LED) does light up when you press the power button, right? If so, it does sound like you'll need to get the notebook serviced.
