HT3819 Understanding Home Sharing

My old computer crashed & I am attempting to download my entire itunes music library to my new computer under home sharing, but only part of the library downloaded.  Any tips on how to get the rest?
Thank you!

That is an old screenshot. That was what the Music app looked like ages ago. Before iOS 6 and maybe even before that.
You want to look for the shared video library in the Videos App. Look at the top of the screen where the other tabs are in the Videos App.

  • HT3819 Does Home Sharing count as part of my storage quota on iCloud?

I would like to be able to share my (very large) iTunes music library with my family. I have ripped my entire CD collection, and I'm sure many of the albums are not available on iTunes. Will Home Sharing use my iCloud storage quota? If I have to purchase extra storage in order to share the disks I've already purchased, then I will not be using Home Sharing. We used to be able to share CDs by...sharing CDs. No need to pay extra!

Home Sharing is between computers and devices on a local network, not iCloud, so it shouldn't affect that.

  • HT3819 Will home sharing work with 2 itunes accounts on the same computer?

My husband and I share a laptop.  Can we use Home Sharing to share music with each other? I have an account for each of us on iCloud and the computer has us each set up as users.

No, home sharing will not work for two different users on the same computer on a Windows based system as it requires iTunes running.  It is not possible in Windows for both users to be running iTunes at the same time.
Instead, simply use the File > Add Files/Folder option in iTunes to add the content you want to your iTunesLibrary.  Do the same for your husbands iTunesLibrary under his user.

  • How can I get music from one computer to another? Can't understand home sharing

I can't get home sharing to work for some reason.  Any tips?

Copy it to a flash drive, cd, dvd, external drive, etc then copy to your other computer.
To move the entire library, type "move itunes library" or similar into the google search bar

  • Understanding Home Sharing, itunes and icloud. Please clarify...

    Hi Guys,
I am new to the community, please could you help me out by clarifying the following:
    Intro:
In our family, we have 3 MacBook Pro's, an imac, an ipad and 4 iphones. We may get additional ipads. We all want different movies, apps and music on our devices.
To Clarify, am I right in understanding the following:
    1. If we use one itunes account for purchasing, all purchases will be in one place, available to the (4 or 5 limited) computers authorised on the itunes account.
    2. We can then use Home Share to swap the content between devices and each have our own itunes library on our own system.
    3. We can then download these individual libraries to our ipads or iphones - which as I understand do not form part of the 4 or 5 authorised computers in the itunes account.
    4. If we set up an icloud account as individuals this will just sync the stuff on our own computer ONLY.
Then the next question I have is what is the best thing to do with images... We keep filling the HD on the laptops and so keep dragging images off to external HD's, so iphoto just shows what is on the mac but we could do with one central location that we can can organise images in and have access to from multiple computers, any suggestions?
    Many Thanks!

If you all share 1 iCloud account you will be sharing your contacts, calendars, texts etc between all, if that is what you want go for it.
If however you would like a little privacy do it this way.
Individual iCloud accounts (1 each) and a shared iTunes account.

  • ITunes/Music Home sharing does not work on my iPad Air

No matter what I do I cannot use Music.app on my iPad Air to play music from my iTunes Library with Home-Sharing switched on. The Library name correctly appears in the Music.app source list after the loading symbol takes an age to complete. When it appears to have connected to the Library on my Mac, contents of my Library are shown in the app but I cannot play anything. If I select an albumn and press Play the Music.app merely cycles rapidly through all the track titles of the Album and then stops. Nothing plays. I've tried dozens of times to get this to work, even rebuilding my iTunes Library. Nothing seems to cure the problem. I can connect and play via Plex which is just plain daft seeing Apple designed all the software/hardware but they, themselves, cannot correctly code for this basic functionality.
Also, not all Album cover artwork is displayed correctly.
It seems many of the things I bought the iPad for are non-functional and the tablet is virtually useless. I can't beleive Apple would produce software and hardware which is specifically made to work harmoniously but obviously doesn't.
    Any help, here, please?
I'm also having problems with Bluetooth connecting to my Mac Pro (2008)... Namly, it will not.

    Hi ashleymartinsmith!
I have an article for you that may help you understand Home Sharing a little better:
    Understanding Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
Home Sharing in iTunes is designed to let you easily share your iTunes media libraries between up to five computers in your household. You can also use Home Sharing to play your iTunes content on your iOS devices and Apple TV (2nd generation) if they are connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
The important thing to note here is that all connected devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network for Home Sharing to be functional. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

Home Sharing enables you to stream or transfer music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more among up to five authorized computers in your household. To do so, you will need to Turn on Home Sharing on each computer using the same Apple ID.

  • Home sharing not working on ipad with different account name but same apple id that was created, what to do?

PC is set up for home sharing and 2 iPads and 1 iPhone is sharing fine.  1 iPad and 1 iPhone is not home sharing.  The only difference on the devices not working is that the Apple account name is [email protected] while the Apple ID is [email protected] which is also the Apple ID used in creating Home Sharing and is the account used on the devices that are working.  Do they need to be the same?  My wife has her own iTunes account.  If they are the same how would her purchases be charged to her account?  Thank you for any help.
