  • Does final cut pro work on Macbook air.

Does final cut pro work on Macbook air.
I know it works fine on my Macbook Pro, but considering getting an Air for travelling, and like to import and do some basic editing while away.
Used to have a Macbook, and FCP wouldn't load on that.
Understand the Air's limitations on disk size, but only wanting it as a travelling editor.
    Thanks

"Traveling editor" could imply dedicated offlining. Shane, do you think that could work with a low rez ProRes codec?
I don't think anyone has tried to use an AirBook for FCP. Anyone bother to search?

  • Does Final Cut Express work on the iMac G5?

I just tried to put Final Cut Pro on a G5 iMac, but the error came up that it is missing a AGP card. Apparently the new iMac have an upgraded card that doesnt work wih the older software.
Does anyone know if the Final Cut Express HD work on a G5 iMac?

For a permanent solution to stop the error message ever appearing again you can use this hack:-
    1. Right click (Control-click) on the FCE application icon (NOT the one in the dock) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.

why am not able to support power pc applications in mac

Babowa: Here is a recent post I made on this subject (responding to the oft mentioned claim on this forum that "installing Rosetta into Lion" would allow FCPS to be installed).
I would love it, if the OP (or you, perhaps, if you do not mind goting through the process again) could confirm the "Terminal Instruction"installation method:
It never made sense to me that (a) one could install Rosetta into Lion and get any results at all, let alone get an installer written in PPC code to run; or (b) if installing Rosetta into Lion worked for an installer written in PPC code, then why wouldn't an application written in PPC code work also?
    And the answer is...
Anytime an operating system is updated, there is a chance that some of your software will no longer function 100% correctly, until the publisher releases an update of that software for the newly updated operating system.  And that is what is going on here...
The Final Cut Pro installer is NOT written in PowerPC code!  There is some minor instruction in the installer that makes a call to the operating system in Lion, that Lion is incorrectly interpreting as being PPC code and hence giving the Dialog Box that says that it cannot run a PowerPC program.
This minor instruction is attempting to execute the following instruction in Terminal:
    $ sudo installer -package /Volumes/Final\ Cut\ Studio/Installer/FinalCutStudio.mpkg -target /
If you execute this instruction in Terminal sans Rosetta, the program will install perfectly!
Somehow, the "installation of Rosetta" into Lion, and perhaps Mountain Lion interferes just enough between the program and the operating system, to allow the program to make this call to Terminal and install the program.  Since this instruction will work in Terminal without Rosetta installed, it obviously has nothing to do with PowerPC code or Rosetta.
So the best advice would appear to be to use this instruction in Terminal and wait while the installation program completes all of its tasks with the concluding statement:
    installer: The install was successful.
This method avoids any pitfalls that may occur by installing Rosetta, which has no place in Lion or Mountain Lion and may be the cause of future problems!
Since I do not have Final Cut Pro, I cannot confirm this, but maybe I can borrow a copy somewhere soon...

  • Does Final Cut Express work with P2?

Has anyone tried to import footage from a Panasonic P2 Card to Final Cut Express 4.0?

Cannot do. You need FCP to work with P2.

  • Does Final Cut Express Work with Canon XF300 or Kodak Zi8?

Question... I JUST purchased Final Cut Express 4. Ihave a Cannon XF 300 and I have the XF plugin software but it doesn't to appear to have worked.
I used the same software at work..except work computers use Final Cut Pro and it works beautifilly... How did you get your Copy of Express to recognize your MXF files... or any files that came from your Canon XF for that matter?
While I'm on that note.. i alternatively use a Kodak Zi8 HD for vlogging and Final Cut tells me it can't recognize the files... ***?!? They're MOV files!  Isn't that a native to apple format?
Feels like I ****** away almost 200 dollars..

The Zi8 records to .mov files but uses an H.264 codec.   A QuickTime .mov file can be created using any one of a long list of audio and video codecs.  Just because it's a .mov file doesn't mean it's compatible with any & every app.
The XF300 records to MPEG-2 Log GOP
Neither can be used directly in Final Cut Express
Both will need to be converted to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec.   I suggest using MPEG Streamclip to convert your raw video to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec in order to edit in FCE.  MPEG Streamclip is free; but you will also need the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Component if you do not already have it on your Mac.  ($19 from the Apple Online Store)
An alternative would be to Log/Transfer using Final Cut Pro into QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec.  Then transfer the files to your Mac that has Final Cut Express.

  • Does Final Cut 7 work in Mountain Lion?

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion for iCloud and being able to sync files with my iPhone.  However, I am a video editor using Final Cut Pro 7.  Will the program function properly in Mountain Lion?

First of all, backup your system before you do anything.
I had no problems with Final Cut Studio when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Mavericks causes the Qmaster preference pane to stop working. Supposedly you can still use the Terminal to set it up. I went ahead and got Compressor 4 and all was well.
I don't think it's no longer necessary to install FCP7 and FCPX on separate partitions. I had FCP7 on my 2008 iMac and installed FCPX without any partitioning. When FCPX is installed it creates a folder called "Final Cut Studio" in the Application folder that houses all the final cut Studio apps.

  • Does Final Cut ProX works OK with the OS X Yosemite

I've received a note to update my system to OS X Yosemite.
Does FCPX works well with the new system?
Is there any precaution that I should take before the update?
    Thank You for your help

Older Projects using the separate Projects and Events folders can be updated to the newer FCP X 10.1.4.
It's important to KNOW what you are doing BEFORE pushing buttons.

Why does final cut x not recognize the sharp PN- K321 monitor ( European version ) as output video monitor, and premiere yes?
Working with two cinema display and PN- K321 and I can not preview the output video at 4K by DisplayPort, whereas with premiere and after effects I have no problems

Look, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.
    Patrick
P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely.

  • Does Final Cut Express 4.0.1 work on OS 10.7.5?

Deos Final Cut Express work on OS 10.7.5?  Upgrading to a new MacPro and Final Cut Pro X, but have unfinished project on FCE that is not opeing properly.

Last officailly supported OS was 10.6.8.
There have beed mixed results with 7 but Apple does not support the marriage.
This forum has plenty of info if you wish to search.
My thoughts/advice are:  fix your issue and finish your Project with existing gear.
FYI: Mavericks and FCP X 10.1 seem fine.

Does Final Cut Studio 2 work with Lion?

As Final Cut Studio consists of several applications, either go to your System Profiler under Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and select Applications to determine which applications are PowerPC, or visit this website and check the version info of each application to see what works and what doesn't:

  • Does Final Cut Express 4 Read Clips From an External NAS Drive?

After upgrading from iMovie 08 to 09 I have found out through these pages that iMovie no longer supports reading clips from and writing them to my external wireless drive (via the Events library). The question for this forum - does Final Cut Express 4 have the same issue?
Just to anticipate a couple of points - I do not intend to use my external hard drive for 'in line' editing, it is merely a repository for excess clips that my hard drive cannot accommodate. I understand this kind of arrangement is slower than Firewire 800 but it is what I have and I want it to work.

FCE has nothing to do with how you archive your media as long as it's not used for playback within the application. The only issue might be how the drive is formatted. For large media files it really needs to be formatted in Mac OS Extended.

  • Does Final Cut X's Project Properties have an equivalent of FCP 7's NTSC CCIR 601 (anamorphic) Sequence Settings?

I work with a lot of remote freelance production vendors and manage productions that they are doing for me. I am not yet working in FCX, and only one of my vendors is using it.
The issue is that none of his footage is HD, but a lot of it is 16:9 SD anamorphic, or SD 4:3 footage that he might choose to stretch or enlarge to fill the widescreen frame.  He created his project as a 1080 HD project. I am concerned that  putting all this SD footage into an HD timeline will distort the footage from the get-go by blowing it up unnecessarily. I can't see anything good happening by blowing up footage only to shrink it back down to resolution for DVD encoding.
Final Cut 7 allows you to keep such footage at its native resolution through the NTSC CCIR 601 (anamorphic 16:9) Sequence Setting.  Does Final Cut X allow you to do the same thing, and how do I talk my producer through the steps needed to do it?   Does he need to start over with a new project?

Go to the Project Library and right click the project then choose "Show Properties" from the drop-down menu to bring up the Inspector. Click the little wrench icon to bring up the settings dialog. Change the settings to SD Anamorphic or 4:3 and the appropriate framerate.
Upscaling to HD is completely useless when dealing with SD footage going to DVD.
