HT3835 Will final cut express 3.5 run on the newer mac os 10.8 or 10.9?

I am going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro when the newest model is released. I am wondering if I can run my Final Cut Express 3.5 with the latest operating system.

I've been using it with Lion and Mountain Lion and it is working well. It was updated to 3.5.1 via Software Update.
However, you will have a problem with the installer as I got the "PPC applications are not supported" when I tried to install it in Lion after doing a fresh install (although FCE is a Universal application, the installer appears to be PPC). So, I followed the file locations in this article and moved every file from my Snow Leopard partition to the Lion partition into the same folder/location. Restarted and it has been working since.

  • Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air

Can Final Cut Pro 7 be run on the New MacBook Air (just for looking at footage and assembling a rough cut) or is the graphics processing inadequate? Also wondering the same about Photoshop CS5 and Aperture 3.1.3.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

You can install on (1) Tower and (1) Laptop, as long as they are both used by you, and NOT at the same time.  This is for when you edit on your tower, but then need to edit at home, or on the road.  You cannot use one copy of FCP on multiple machines at the same time.  You need one copy for each machine you intend to use at the same time.

  • Will final cut x 10.1 work on a new mac mini?

Does anyone know if the newst verssion of final cut will work on the newest mac mini?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Final Cut Pro X is compatible with the Late 2012 Mac mini and you can download it from the Mac App Store. See > http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/

  • Will Final Cut Express 2.0.3 work with Tiger 10.4.4

Will Final Cut Express 2.0.3 work with Tiger 10.4.4

We have it running on our iMac G5s. Although it runs reasonably well, there are some teething problems with it. One of them is we cannot capture from a camcorder using timecodes because it just crashes when we try and do that, so we can only capture using the "DV Convertor" mode. Not unreasonable, but slightly annoying.
We also have the problem that, when we brought some new iMac G5s recently with the iSight built in, it wouldn't work at all because it didn't seem to realise that a PCI-Express graphics card was actually a graphics card at all, and it kept demanding we install an AGP one, which was a bit stupid.
Apart from that, it's definitely useable. No crashes or anything like that. And we use it daily.

  • Will final cut express work with os maverick

I am running mountain lion and FCE. will final cut express work with mavericks.?

A follow-up to my previous post.  FCE 4.0.1 is working fine with Mavericks on the computer at my church (we use it to video-tape sermons and masses for YouTube).
A few weeks ago, I purchased a copy of FCE 4.0 from Amazon (one of only two left).  It would NOT work with Mavericks, and there was no upgrade available on the App Store (the only source of software upgrades with Mavericks).  So, I installed FCE on another iMac running Lion.  It installed just fine, and when I went to "Check for New Software" in "the apple", it found the upgrade to 4.0.1, installed it, I copied it to a blank DVD, and installed that on my iMac running Mavericks.  It is working fine.  (HINT TO APPLE: Can we please go back to the simple "Check for Software Updates" instead of the App Store?  Ever since Steve Jobs died everything Apple has become more complicated, not intuitively simple as he made it.)

  • Will Final Cut Express work on a Macbook Core Duo

I have a 2006 Macbook 2ghz Core Duo with 2gig of Ram. Will Final Cut Express work on this? Will the integrated graphics card affect performance?

    hey there 12frets,
FCE should run w/out major probs. you should even be able to run a 2nd display up to 23", which would be very handy as the Canvass(playback) window will be rather small on a 13" display.
    FCE System Requirements
A Mac computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
For AVCHD: A Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of RAM or more
An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme; or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in a MacBook or Mac mini computer
Some FxPlug filters are not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors.
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
    A DVD drive for installation
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
500MB of disk space to install Final Cut Express and LiveType
Additional 500MB to install LiveType content
    good luck.

  • Will Final Cut Express help with...

I am considering purchasing Final Cut Express for a video project I am working on for my company. I have been using iMovie for a while and have not found a way to overlay a graphic (in this case, our company logo) on top of video. Will Final Cut Express allow me to do this?
Also, I just shot some video of clients giving testimonials that I would like to turn into marketing pieces. Unfortunately there is a lot of background noise in several of the clips. Does Final Cut Express have any audio tuning features that will help me reduce or remove the background noise?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Will Final Cut Express allow me to do this?
    Yes, easily.
Does Final Cut Express have any audio tuning features that will help me reduce or remove the background noise?
Not really. You could try using a noise reduction tool like SoundSaop, but you're best bet is to re-shoot using proper mics and placement.

  • Will final cut express work with a sony DCR-SR40

I got a sony DCR-SR40 camcorder for christmas an imovie won't work with it - will final cut express do the job?

First of all, welcome to the forum.
That camcorder uses a USB interface, correct? FCP and
iMovie can only import via FW. For hard drive
camcorders, you must import the footage like you
would files from an external HD. Then you can work
with the files in FCP or iMovie.
Good luck and happy New Year.
This Camera supports Mpeg -2 files I have had no end of problems importing this into I movie. Bought the software recomended by Sony (Capty MPEG ..whatever) cost £65 and is rubbish, so bought the Quicktime MPEG 2 codec plugin for £15, got the picture not the sound. What plug in do I need for the Audio, or should I ditch the camera and go for a Firewire version.

  • I had final cut express 4 already installed on my new macbook but can't open it because it is asking for my serial number which is on the disc. I've put it in with and without dashes and dots and it won't accept it. What do I do?

I had final cut express 4 already installed on my new macbook pro at the shop but I'm trying to open it up and it wants my serial number. I've typed in the number on the disc labelled 'product serial number' but it won't accept it. The number has lots of dots and dashes in it and I've tried typing these as well, but to no avail. What can I do?

    You do need the dashes.
    Also double check that O & 0, I & 1 are not being confused.
The serial no. pretty much follows a three numbers then three letters approach.

  • Would I still be able to fun Final Cut Pro with no problem with the new 13"

My old MBP has "NVIDIA GeForce 860M GT with 128MB" and the new 13-inch MBP has "NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics" I don't really know what "GT" means, but the more expensive MBP's listed have it, so I'm guessing it's pretty good. I was wondering if I'd still be able to fun Final Cut Pro quickly if I got the new 13-inch MBP.
Back in 2007, the guy at the Apple store said I'd have to get a MBP instead of a MB if I wanted to fun FCP correctly, and now both the MB and MBP use the same graphics chip, so I'm wondering if FCP will still function correctly on the new 13-inch MBP?

    Eric wrote:
Incorrect about what? I never made any statements, just questions. According to the Apple store, the Macbook and 13-inch Macbook Pro both use the same chip, which is the only statement I made. And which is why I'm wondering if the new 13-inch MBP can even handle FCP since the MB can't (according to the guy in the Apple store).
Actually, your original question was formed as part of a statement:
now both the MB and MBP use the same graphics chip, so I'm wondering if FCP will still function >correctly on the new 13-inch MBP?
And that's the part that BoyHowdy pointed out that you are "a little incorrect" about. While it's true that they both have an onboard 9400M graphics chip, you are overlooking the fact that the 15" & 17" MBPs also have the much more powerful and dedicated 9600M GT graphics card. This is not an insignificant difference. Final Cut Pro, not to be confused with Final Cut Express (not you, others have confused the two), requires a dedicated card which the 15" & 17" MBPs have in the form of the additional 9600M GT, but the 13" still lacks.
The specs on the Final Cut Pro page are a little confusing because while it says it *will not work* with integrated graphics, it specifically refers to Intel, and does not mention Nvidia. However, it still says it requires an AGP or PCI Express card, which the 9400M is not.
My feeling is that even if it runs, the performance of Final Cut Pro on that system will be unacceptable, and will ultimately drive you mad. It really pushes the graphics systems hard, and despite their vast improvement over the pathetic Intel onboard graphics systems, the 9400M is still pretty anemic for high end work. You're better off saving a little more money and getting the low end 15" model. Not to mention, the extra screen real estate makes a huge difference with the very crowded Final Cut Pro UI.

  • Will my LED 27 Cinema Display work with the new Mac Pro?

Will my LED 27 Cinema Display work with the new Mac Pro?

Mini DisplayPort (like 27" LED Cinema Display) is a direct subset of ThunderBolt (like Mac pro late 2013). It plugs right in and the display portion "just works", no adapters required.

  • Will Final Cut Express HD run on my MacBook?

    Hi all!
I bought myself a MacBook Intel C2D a few months ago. I do enjoy it very very much.
I am thinking about going from iMovie to Final Cut Express HD, but I am not sure if it will run on my MacBook Intel C2D.
Anyone who can enlighten me in this subject?
    Sincerely,
    Andreas
    MacBook Intel C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, Final Cut Express will run on your MacBook. When you purchase, be sure to get FCE version 3.5 (not an earlier version).
What are the specs of your MacBook - especially how much RAM memory and what size HD you have in it.
Here are the FCE technical specs. Even though the minimum requirement is 512MB RAM, Final Cut Express will run much better if you have at least 1GB RAM in your MacBook (and 1GB RAM is the minimum if you plan to do HDV video).
    Hope that helps!

  • Will Final Cut Express be improved by upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks?

Will the performance of Final Cut Express, currently running under Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5 (12F45), be improved by upgrading to Mavericks?

  • Will Final Cut Express be any better than iMovie for colour resolution

    Hi
I have just made the move from a Laptop/Windows to a Macbook Pro, whilst running on the Laptop i used Ulead Video Studio V10.5 to capture and edit DV movies from my Panasonic NV-GS180. Once I learnt the basic the output results were very good, eg. an mpeg movie file of around 2.5GB for an hour of video.
Since moving to the Mac I have uploaded 2 recent DV tapes into the standard iMovie application. I have done a simple upload with minimal editing just to prove the quality of the output. I have output into H.264 format and the resultant file is around 2.5GB for an hour. The quality of the video is very poor compared to the equivalent on the VS10.5. Now, so by "poor quality" i mean the colour resolution is literally rubbish, on VS10.5 there are many different shades of the same colour, whereas in iMovie there is literally two. The resolution also looks worse, but I have read that iMovie doesn't handle the original interlaced video from my camcorder. So, I am more than willing to but Final Cut Express if my two problems with iMovie are addressed to achieve the same quality as VS10.5 on my old windows XP Laptop. There's no Trial like there is with Aperture, which I have recently bought to improve on the original installed iPhoto.
Any help, advice or comments gratefully received.

    hi Ian
In store, we were using an huge Mac, whereas I am using a Macbook Pro. I must admit I did not try iMovie in the store to check the quality was equally as bad. But I can confirm that since installing FCE4 on my Macbook Pro at home and capturing the same piece of video that the colour resolution is the same as in store, so all is good.
    Cheers

  • Will Final Cut Express do This?

I'm an iMovie user. I saw a montage that had different photos coming up into a kind of "grid"...so there could be four different photos in separate frames of the "grid" and you could change them one at a time. You could also have a video clip running in one "cell" while photos remained in the others. I don't know what this feature is called, but I was told that the montage was made in Final Cut Pro. Does anyone know what this is called and if Final Cut Express will do it? Sorry to seem like a complete idiot!

No. There is even a free plugin to help you do this.
