HT3910 What if you no longer have the Mac OS X Install disk?

I'm reading article HT3910 regarding erasing and installing Snow Leopard, but I don't have the disc. Are there any other viable options for restoring the Macbook to original settings?

No there isn't, you need the disk to wipe the machine good.
Apple menu > about this Mac > more info for a model like MacBook Pro 3,1.
Download MacTracker and punch that in, find out the original OS X version that came on the machine.
If < 10.6.3, then call Apple via phone for the 10.6.3 white retail disks
If > 10.6.2 then call Apple via phone for the 10.6.3+ machine specific versions of the OS X install disks.

  • HT1212 What if you no longer have the computer you last synced your ipod with?

I forgot my passcode to my ipod and now have a disabled screen that appears.  I no longer have the computer I last synced my ipod with, so I cannot restore it that way.  Any other suggestions?  Is there any kind of hard reset?

  • If I no longer have the old application Backup installed on my Mac (part of the .Mac subscription), do I still need the folder called Backup, that is in my Library in the Application Support folder?

If I no longer have the old application Backup installed on my Mac (for performing scheduled backups of data on the computer), do I need the folder called Backup, that is in my Hard Drive, to Library, to the Application Support folder?  (There is no Backup folder in my Home Folder, to Library, to the Application Support folder.)
Backup was part of the .Mac subscription I used to have, and I have not used it since I gave up being a .Mac subscriber many years ago.  In fact I recall Apple saying at one point that they no longer supported the Backup Application.  I assume the Backup folder is just remnants from when I used to have that application, however I could be wrong, and don't want to trash the folder unwisely.
As I looked through the various items in the Backup folder, nothing appears to be modified since 2007, which further confirms that this folder is from long ago when I used to have that application.  I did notice that the main Backup folder itself was the only thing that had a more current modification date on it.  That date coincides with the date that I installed Snow Leopard on my Mac earlier this year.  But I'm assuming that any operating system software installation will place a modification date on all the various folders of one's computer, with the date the new OS was installed.
Any insight will be appreciated!  Thank you!

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer.  As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you.  I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.
    Best.

  • HT201318 How to downgrade when you no longer have the Iphone

I no longer have my Iphone and need to cancel my storage how do I do that? Which means I now longer have the serial number. Help!!

If you're signed into your iCloud account on your computer, you can downgrade from there.  Otherwise contact the Apple online store at the number shown on the bottom of this page.  They process storage upgrade refunds and should be able to help you with this.  Also, if you ever need to find your serial number and have ever synced your phone with iTunes, you can find it by doing the following:
    Launch iTunes on your computer.
Hold down your Control key, then on the menu bar in iTunes click iTunes>About iTunes (Mac) or Help>About iTunes(PC).
Any previously synced devices will scroll in a pop-up window; press the space bar to stop scrolling so you can write down the serial number.

  • HT1420 What if I no longer have the computers that need to be deauthorized?

I have had a new computer since Christmas.  I no longer have any of the other computers I once used for itunes.  Everything transferred fine and I have been using my account for my phone X2, i-pod and now my Ipad.  But tonight I tried to reinstall an app that froze on the ipad and I got a message that I need to deauthorize one of my computers. - I no longer have the old computer, how can I procede?

Deauthorize all, then authorize the active computers.

  • I have a '13-inch, Early 2009' MacBook.  I want to restore it to its factory settings (I have the 'Mac OS X Install DVD' and 'Applications Install DVD').  At this time, I am completely up-to-date with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3.  My question is:

After I restore the computer, will I also lose Lion?  If so, will it be possible to get it back?  Will it be possible to catch back up to the latest software without having to spend any money?  I bought and installed Snow Leopard when it came out, but no longer have a physical copy of that disc.

    Hi Linux,
I was about to restore my MacBook when I came upon this screen:
Is this not an indication that it intends on reinstalling it back to its "factory settings", which means OS X Leopard?
I'm simply afraid that I will be reverted back to 'Leopard', and then be forced to either stick with what I've got, or to spend unnecessary money in order to catch back up.

  • HT4111 What happens when you no longer have the bluetooth device?

There's no option to "forget about this device" and it'll remain on the list. Further, when you navigate to Bluetooth it will try to keep finding the incorrect device and does drain the battery. How can this list be cleaned up now?

If you tap on the blue arrow to the right of the item's name then you should go to a second screen with a 'Forget This Device' button on it

  • In the new iTunes you no longer have the 'create iPod version' or 'create Apple TV version,' for converting movies. Will this feature return..?

After installing the new itunes, I inserted some video files, and wanted to create a version for my iPod classic. Before, I could just click on the video and then select 'create iPod version' from the menu. It would then convert the file. However, this feature no longer exist. Is there another way I can easily convert my files?

  • HT3910 i don't have the Mac OS X Install DVD. What do I do on that case? and I need it to erase and install my computer

    I need help!

If you have Snow Leopard installed then buy yourself another copy of the Snow Leopard DVD. You can purchase replacements for the original discs from Apple Support:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
Otherwise, for Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks you would use Internet Recovery:
Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery
OS X (Lion/Mountain Lion)- About OS X Recovery
You can also create a USB flash drive installer for any version of OS X with the appropriate tools.

  • Is it possibe to 'deauthorize' a computer that you no longer have?

I got a new computer and when I 'authorized' it, it told me that this was 5 of 5 authorized computers. I 'deauthorized' my last computer before trading it in on my new one and my MacBook Pro is also 'authorized'. The other 3 must be on very old computers that I no longer owm. Is there any way to 'deauthorize' them?

If you no longer have the computer(s) you want to deauthorise,
Log in to iTunes,  go to "view your account info" on the itunes store,  deauthorise all five, (Please Note: this can only be done Once every 12 months)  and then re-authorize your current Computer(s) one at a time.

I, too, love everything about my phone. The other day I tried to crash my Z10 by running multiple apps and having videos running in the background. Do you think my Z10 showed any signs of slowing down? Nothing doing! It ran as smooth as silk. I'm very impressed.
    Cheers.

  • How do you delete photos from an iphone 5 using ios7 that have been uploaded from a computer? Hitch: I no longer have the old computer.

When I was upgrading from the iphone 4 to the iphone 5, i uploaded all of the pictures from the iphone 4 to my computer and then added them to the iphone 5. I no longer have the laptop that the pictures were uploaded to (crashed). There are several pictures that I now wish to remove from my iphone 5 that had been uploaded from the old laptop but am unable to do so. I googled it many times and everything says go back and sync via itunes yadda yadda. i get that part, but i don't have access to the photos anymore from a laptop, only on my phone. when i try to select the photos and delete them, the trash symbol is greyed out. any suggestions or am I just stuck wtith these photos on the iphone 5?

Syncing with iTunes is completely separate from and not related to importing photos and videos from your iPhone's camera roll with your computer.
Have you imported photos from the Camera Roll previously with your computer?
What are you using for the import with your computer?
When I import with my Mac, I'm provided an option to delete the just imported photos and videos from the iPhone's camera roll after the import process is complete. If I choose no, with the next import I'm alerted about the photos/videos being previously imported by my computer - do I want to re-import and replace what was previously imported, or ignore the previously imported content and only import the new content that has not been imported.

Ya know what I'm on a brand new MBP just about 24 hours old and you know whats been working amazingly for me. I have a 27inch iMac as well and i've just connected it to my network and been dragging files and apps across the network onto my new MBP. Its really working fast and its flawless. You could always do that option, Just go into sharing options and turn them on for both Macs. Then just click and drag. Of course they have to both be on the same network for this to be possible.
    Look at my network.
Shared is what your looking at.  I click on there see all my computers files and then drag the ones i want form its folder to my MBP folders.  Hope that helps if your looking for a very simple way on a wireless network.
