HT3924 mini displayport cable / thunderbolt cable

the mini displayport cable is the same as the thunderbolt cable?
I try connect my imac [mini displayport] (mid 2010) as external display with mac air [thunderbolt port] (early 2011)

A mini-DisplayPort cable and a Thunderbolt cable are not the same. If you wish to use Target Display Mode and your older iMac will be the "external display", a mini-DisplayPort cable should work. See:

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire.

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA cable, when available?

With this new MacBook aluminum, the I/Os are changed a little bit. The Mini DisplayPort in particular, it is said to be perfect to connect to Apple LED Cinema Display, but what if I want to connect any regular projector in order to do presentations? or any other monitors? I have searched here in China for Mini DisplayPort to VGA cable, but with no luck, then I googled it, seems it is not available in the market yet? Keynote is so good that makes me irresistible to do a presentation with my Mac.
So my question is: where can I get a cable like this? and how much would that be?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
it's avaiable in the US Apple Online Store http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjkyNjI0MA
Not sure how to get it to china though.

  • Apple mini displayport to vga cable. ...doesn't work. help.

Tried hooking up my mac mini using the apple mini displayport to vga cable to my 22" acer monitor but im getting nothing. At the same time I hooked my tv to the hdmi connection and could see in the display settings on the mini that a dialogue box for the settings for the acer had appeared but no signal on the monitor itself.....any ideas?

    Try resetting the PRAM.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable

Using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable from a 2010 MacBook Air is playing up, making it practically unusable. Essentially what happens is that when connecting a television set using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable the picture is perfect but no longer than 30 seconds at a time before the picture 'goes to sleep'. Is there a setting I need to change? There must be a setting that I can change which I haven't worked out yet. Thanks in advance for your help

has there been an answer to this yet?

  • 27" cinema display and female mini displayport to HDMI cable.

    Hi,
I need to connect my 27" cinema display to an AV amplifier.  In order to do this I need to find a mini displayport cable with a female connector on one end (to plug in to the monitor cable) and a male HDMI connector on the other.
Does anyone know if such a cable exists? and if so where I will find it?
Ideally I would like to do this with just one cable...using adaptors, eg mini displayport to displayport then displayport to hdmi are an option, but not my first choice.
    Many Thanks,
    Mark

  • Display Undetected: Cintiq 12WX to iMac via DVI + Mini Displayport Adapter Thunderbolt

Hello all. I'm connecting my Wacom Cintiq 12WX to an iMac 27-inch, Late 2013 (brand new) via a DVI cable connected to the iMac's thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Returning a "No Sync" response on the tablet, iMac is not detecting the display.
The cable is DVI-D (Dual Link), the adapter is DVI-D (Dual Link), and the port on the Wacom appears to be DVI-I (Dual Link) except with a vertical socket for "Analog Ground" connection which is missing in DVI-D – but from my understanding this shouldn't be an issue. Could be wrong, not my area of expertise.
However, in the past I have used this device with a Late 2008 Macbook and a DVI to Mini DVI adapter to the Mini DisplayPort, back when Apple was pre-Thunderbolt, same cable and it worked like a charm.
I've contacted Wacom's support, but they usually take a day or two to get back so I'm hoping someone here can shed some light.
    Thanks in advance.

yeah thats how I connect my 24" dell

  • Could my current mac with the Mini DisplayPort use thunderbolt displays? Even any other thunderbolt technology?

i am in the market for a new desktop computer, iMac or new Macpro if coming soon and priced right. i want two displays and I want my current Macbook Pro end 2008 with the Mini DisplayPort to be able to us a hunderbolt display. is this possible?
    thanks

It will work, but only as a display – obviously you will not have access to the hub and daisychain functions.
I don't see that would work... Plus, if it were possible, I would think a company would utilize that for marketing leverage to appeal to more users with only the older mDP cpu's.  In this case, that's not what is happening.  So I don't believe it will work like that.  Typically, a company wouldn't make specific statements (ex "attaching to any Thunderbolt enabled device"), if it was Not a requirement to work.
Then... on the technical side of it...
The TB cable / signal is a (new technology) Muxed signal of both PCIe and DP data.  Without the TB chipset / hardware on the host machine, it can Not communicate properly down the Thunderbolt cable and to any TB device.
As you can see in the cable cut-away... it's NOT just a matter of adding individual DP lines along with some individual PCIe lines and wrap it up in a single cable.... where you can choose just to use only the DP lines.  Nope... this is highly improbable and suggests that using an OLD (non-TB) computer will NOT work at ALL, if connecting to a TB display or any TB device.

  • USB over Mini Displayport in Thunderbolt port?

    Hey all,
I've got a MacBook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013, I've got it connected to an Acer B296CL 29" monitor. I'm connecting it with a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable, with the Mini DisplayPort end plugged into one of the Thunderbolt ports on the Macbook, and the DisplayPort into the monitor.
As far as I was aware, DisplayPort could carry USB?
I was hoping to utilise the USB ports on the monitor, so I could use the monitor as a dock, connecting to it via the MDP to DP cable, without having to also plug in any kind of USB dock to the MacBook to connect USB devices.
Is what I'm trying to do possible?
    Thanks, Jack.

Displayport itself can't carry USB except in the dual-link cable configuration if the graphics chip on board the Mac supports it.
You are probably better off getting a thunderbolt hub if you don't have enough ports.  A hub like this may be helpful:

  • Dr. Bott Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable doesn't work.

I'm trying to connect my MacBook (mid 2010) with my tv and I can't get it working properly. I have the HDMI cable, and the mini display port to the HDMI cable. When I connect the computer to the tv, the computer screen turns light blue like it is about to synchronize, but the tv screen remains black. After a moment, 2 boxes appear on my tv screen. One says "HDMI1: and  the other "no signal detected".
I've tried with "detect displays", I've tried connecting to all the HDMI ports I have on my TV, I've tried basically everything but it still doesn't work.
This is the adapter - http://www.drbott.net/product/7395-MDPA/
My TV is a fairly new Samsung, and everything else is working fine, I don't know why this won't function. It's frustrating me.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I have this problem, it is because my Macbook Pro is using "Integrated" graphics vs the "Descrete" graphics.  I control this via the gfxCardStatus menubar utility.
You could also try reseting the smc controller

    and/or resetting the PRAM

    That exhausts my ideas.

  • Connecting HDTV with mini displayport with HDMI cable dos'nt work

MacBook pro 15" mid 2010 when connected is nothing to see on HDTV. Could you give me some advice? thank you

Did you look at System Preferences>Displays?  Does the category 'Arrangement' appear?  Did you click on 'Detect Displays'?
Have you examined the instructions that came with your TV?  There should be settings for  an external PC/computer.
    Ciao.
