HT3964 Cannot eject disk from Superdrive?

I have an Apple Superdrive connected to my iMac. I loaded a music cd, and ejected successfully. Then i inserted a dvd with photographs, just to check what was on it. I now cannot eject this dvd. I cannot see the disk drive or file anywhere. have tried to eject using button on keyboard. Have followed steps which tell me to shut down computer, unplug and restart after 15 secs. Also done Restart. Feel like chucking the drive at the wall! Can anyone help, please?

Just realised that the restart will not work, as I cannot close iPhotos. When i try to close it, it says cannot close as photos are importing. Can only be referring to the photos on this dvd stuck in the drive. Doesn't appear to be any way tp abort the import into iPhoto from dvd, but import is not actually happening! What can i do?
Force Quit iPhotos. If you don't know how to force quit an app, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and select Force Quit, select the application (iPhoto) and hit Enter.

I cannot eject a disk from my MacBook Air.   I've tried many options.    Any suggestions?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Cannot eject disk from bootcamp set up

Just setting up the bootcamp with Windows XP disk, all the installment is done but when you get to the end and windows says 'restarting in 13 sec's, please eject disk we cannot eject and it then states in a black background - disk error, press any key to re-start - nothing working when we do this. Have tuned on and off with same response - disk error, Think if we can just eject the disk it will be ok, using a wireless keyboard (but did not install keyboard software) thanks

You cannot eject the disk from the Mac during the install process. You only have access to the eject key after the Windows install is complete and after you install the Bootcamp Windows drivers from your Mac OS X disk. That is why you need to use a full version instead of an upgrade version per Apple's Bootcamp documentation. If you have a full, supported version of Windows you should be able to complete the install and reboot. Then you can boot into Mac OS X (holding the alt key after the ding and the white screen appears on the computer), eject the Windows install disk and insert the Mac OS X disk, then boor Windows and install the Bootcamp tools.
It sounds like your wireless keyboard is the problem here. You probably need a wired USB keyboard to do the Windows install. A USB keyboard (or the build-in notebook keyboard) will work for the install process (typing in the codes and what not).

  • Cannot eject disc from iMAC superdrive

When I insert a CD or DVD into my iMAC superdrive it is recognised and will play but then it is not displayed in the finder sidebar. consequently I cannot eject the disc. The only way to eject is to restart the machine.

    1. Click on Finder or your Desktop and with Finder on the Menu Bar open Finder Preferences. Next click on the Sidebar tab in Finder Preferences and make sure that (CDs, DVDs and iPods) is checked.
    2. Also check the General tab if you would like these things to also show up on your Desktop.
Lastly you should also be able to Eject CDs & DVDs using the Eject button on the Menu Bar.

  • Cannot eject ipod from my computer

every time i connect my ipod this thing e_t tm auto play shows up. i can see my ipod in windows and in itunes. but when i try to eject it from itunes and the little green arrow in windows it says, the device "generic volume" cannot be stopped right now. what do i do? the only way to disconnect my ipod is to shut down windows which is pretty annoying. sigh, cannot wait to get a mac.

Well, it may not specifically be your PC...but get rid of it anyway.
It could be that your iPod is conflicting with another device on the USB chain. Connect your iPod to a rear port on your doomed PC, then connect your keyboard and mouse. Disconnect ALL other USB devices including printers, external hard drives, digital cameras, phones, scanners, modems, thumb drives, improbability drives, flash camera memory readers, etc. If you are on a network, disconnect from the network.
After this give your iPod a new drive letter, something much higher such as M or P or Z.

  • Cant eject disk from external DVD drive

I inserted an dvd into my external DVD drive for my new mac book pro and it will not eject.
I believe the disk is defective.  It does show up in finder but does not read any files on it.
Tried, eject key from keyboard, ejecting from finder,  rebooting,  Nothing seems to work.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

When all else fails try Tech Support.
The solution:  reboot and while starting up, hold the left mouse button down (or equivalent) until it ejects.

  • Cannot eject disk

I burned a music CD. I ejected that disk and inserted a 2nd disk to make a 2nd copy. It does not show on the desktop. I have searched the forums and tried all the suggestions and still cannot eject the disk. I have Toast and a couple of disk ejector apps. Terminal commands, single user commands do not work. Must I take this to an Apple Store?

I did more research, found a few more ideas, tried them all, no dice. Resigned myself to a trip to the Apple Store on Monday.
Returned to the computer, (left on), a couple of hours later, and the disk had ben rejected.
I was going to make a chain of ALL the attempts to eject the disk and say, "This works!"
As a precaution I have trashed the culprit disk.
    Gracias  mende1 for writing.

  • Cannot mount disk from a Sol8 system via nfs

    Hi All
I have Sol10 up and running. I noticed that it was not very easy to mount a linux disk with nfs. I found out that I had to add -o vers=3. Now I would like to mount a disk from a Sol8 system
    So far I only managed to get:mount sol8sys:/storage /mnt/sol8sys
nfs mount: sol8sys:/storage: Permission deniedThis gives me the impression something is not configured well on the Sol8 system.
Well here is some info about that $ exportfs
    -               /storage   rw=serv1:serv2:sol10sys,ro=serv3   "Storage Array"
sol10sys represents the system I'm trying to mount on.......
Any suggestions why I cannot mount this disk ? or give me some hints on how to proceed solving this problem!
    Thanks a lot
    LuCa

The reverse resolution has to match exactly. Most machines are in DNS, so the reverse resolution will be a name, not an IP address. Therefore they won't match.
Also, how were you specifing the IP address? You can't just throw an IP address in an access list. From the share_nfs man page we can see that an access list contains:
hostname, netgroup, domain name suffix, or network. 'IP address' isn't a valid member.

  • Cannot unmount disk from standard user account (bound to AD)

I have an intel iMac running 10.8.2 with problems unmounting disks. This isn't an issue from administrative accounts. However, any standard account requires authentication by an administrator to unmount a disk. I ran top while trying to unmount the disk and noticed that the daemon securityagent kept emerging. Unfortunately I can seem to modify any config or plist files to stop this prompt from happening. I need standard users to be able to mount and unmount disks from the machine. Here is what I've tried:
    Safe booting
    removing the plugin at /System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgentPlugins/DiskUnlock.bundle
Writing an Applescript running a diskutil command with administrator privileges (I'm sure the syntax was fine because it worked on a 10.7 machine)
    removing com.apple.unmountassistant.useragent.plist
    Disk Utility
I might be forgetting a step or two but that's about it. Any ideas?

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Could Spotlight or TM be running on those drives in that account?

  • MBP cannot find disk from start-up utility

I'm working with my friend's MBP, and it won't start up. It shows a folder with a question mark on it.
Apparently, he downloaded Mavericks, but didn't install it. The next time he opened his computer, this happened.
So I held option while booting it up and I got to the start-up utility. I tried to repair the disk from disk utility, but the only disks are something like "disk0" and "Mac OS X Utlity" (I can't remember the name exactly. But there were only two.
All the options were grayed out no matter which disk I chose. Additionally, I tried to reinstall Lion (the only option) and it prompted me to select a drive to install to, and none were available.
Is there any solution to this, or is the computer dead? What could have caused this?
    Thanks.

The computer isn't dead, but the hard drive probably is.

  • Cannot eject iPod  from iTunes Window

When I try to eject my iPod from the iTunes screen I get a "Windows - No Disk" pop up error saying that there is no disk in the drive, put a disk into the H drive. I also get an iTunes message alert that The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application. I can see the iPod name in Windows Explorer and I can safely eject using the XP Window's "Safely Remove Hardware" feature, but I want to fix this problem and free up whatever file that is being used by another application.

Are you using any third party applications to access/manage your iPod. I know that Red Chair Anapod causes this conflict with iTunes and I'm sure that other applications do to. Try uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling the latest version.

  • Can manually eject disk from iMac? iMac won't start up. . .

My iMac started acting up, as if a keyboard key was stuck and it kept scrolling through menu items; so I logged out all users and restarted. I get the grey screen with the Apple logo and timer, then it goes to the blue background/Mac OS X screen but the blue progress bar never fills in.
I can't start up from the OS X disk because there's already a disk in there. Anyone know how to manually get a disk out? I'm sure this is on Apple's support page, but it's currently down for maintenence.
We do have an external, USB bluetooth for a bluetooth Apple keyboard and a Microsoft bluetooth mouse; and at first I thought it was the bluetooth that was freaking out.
I know this is a pretty vague problem, but any others out there with a similar experience? Or can troubleshoot this one? Thanks!

    haythere-
It sounds like it could be the keyboard. have you replaced the batteries lately?
I know that if you hold down the mouse button of a wired mouse at power up it should eject the disc. That might work with the bluetooth mouse.
When it comes back up, this link for troubleshooting CD/DVD eject failures should be helpful.
