HT3964 Does anyone know how to restore power if resetting the SMC doesn't work?
I followed the instructions for resetting the SMC; however, my laptop still doesn't power up all the way. I can hear a fan coming on, and the motor of the CD drive turning, but the screen doesn't come on, the keyboard doesn't light. My computer was working pretty normal yesterday afternoon, and when I returned to it in the evening, it was completely unresponsive. I am not very technically savvy, so any help is much appreciated.
I didn't not get the happy chime. :-(

Wow! I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside. Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly. It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle. Of course I took no pictures!!! I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress... The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect. After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though. There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top. After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen. I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background. After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle. After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange. But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out. -

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in earlier versions there is only one.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -

In Maverick I seem to have lost visability of every folder I had .. please helpThey were coloured labels not coloured folders. And they are not part of the Mavericks OSX. You can reinstall the backup of your previous system if you require them

My iMac is connected to a Brother printer. I have Snow Leopard 10.7.3 As of yesterday, when I try to print a PDF it prints as a blank black page. Does anyone know how to correct this so that the PDF will print as I see it on screen?
If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash. -

You would have to add it to the mail server ( if you have an IMAP account), then it will appear on the ipad. -

I'm not sure if the recipient is using plain text or not and I don't think they could tell me if they were. I only know they're using an older PC . . . I'm sending in Rich text.
I've been sending them by goin' to Edit>Special Characters>selecting the emoticon from the list and inserting where I've clicked in the message which works when I send a message to myself.
I thought the other end might be getting them as attachments, but I don't know for sure. I've been goin' through my manual to find some sort of reference to that issue, but came up with nuthin'. I imagine I could try to send a plain text email to see what happens. -

THanks!A first generation iPod touch can't be updated past 3.1.3. If it's a newer model, update it from iTunes on a computer, and if possible, the one it normally syncs with.

Does anyone know how to find my iPhone without the Find My iPhone app?
Hi, I lost my iPhone Friday night. Ironic I know, Friday the 13th, who coulda had worse luck. Every person I ask what to do, tells me I should use the Find My iPhone app. BUT ITS RUBISH. IT DOES NOT HELP ME IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. WHOEVER INVENTED IT DID NOT ACCOMMODATE FOR IF THE PHONE WAS STOLEN OR LOST WHEN IT WAS SWITCHED OFF. Its obviously locked via passcode and lost mode on Find My iPhone but really anyone can bypass it or restore the phone which is what worries me because once they do that there is no way of finding it since the phone is only traceable through iCloud in partner with my apple ID. So thanks whoever invented Find My iPhone. It was just further confirmation that any chances of actually finding my iPhone are non-existent.
And I believe Apple has a way to find it via the 982149810 different kinds of product codes such as the serial number or the IMEI number but they choose not to, A) because they do not want to bother themselves and B) because they'd rather have you pay full ******* price for a brand new one. Which I'm not going to do. That phone has restricted and confidential material on it and it needs to be found NOW.
There must be a way to locate the phone. I've heard of ways that the police has worked side by side with carrier companies to track it. Unfortunately I cannot do that because I purchased an originally unlocked cell phone at full retail price from the Apple store itself. I know there is a way to find it. There has to be. Also, I heard that an Apple Certified Mac Technician can help find it. Does anyone know the number of any here in Canada? Prefferably the GTA? Please help me out.

P.S. If I never find my iPhone, I'm switching to Android. They have an app that helps you find the phone even if its switched off and an app for after it gets stolen. Meaning it doesn't have to be installed in the phone before it was stolen. BECAUSE THEY ARE SMART AND CONSIDER ALL OCCASIONS. LEARN FROM YOUR COMPETITORS APPLE. ADIOS APPLE.There is no way to remotely track any device that is turned off, or does not have an internet data connection. In that case, no remote system can possible communicate with the device, nor the device send any information to any remote server. Any device, not merely an iPhone, shares that same limitation. Remote tracking is only possible if the device and the tracking system can talk to eachother.
Apple does not offer any other feature because they are not a law enforcement agency. They are bound by the same privacy laws that keep you from snooping in somebody's house just because you claim they have something of yours.
Of course there are alternate ways to track a powered on and connected cell phone, but Apple has neither the legal nor the moral authority to do such things. Just because something is technically possible does not mean that any big company and just go out and do them.
Since when is it always "someone else's" fault and responsibility to deal with your lost or stolen private property? I don't get this mentality of passing either the blame or the responsibility on to someone else.
