HT3964 Mac Book refuses to charge battery...

Not even that old, actually.  I've been away for 3 weeks and came home to this problem.  Any ideas??  Reset SMC??

Copy/paste what System Information shows for Power. This has useful information on the battery and power adapter. Cycle count is the first thing to look for.

  • Mac Book Pro neither charging battery nor starting (turning on) without battery

    Hi
I am having Mac Book Pro 15' 2010 model. Recently I purchased a new battery as the old battery swelled and got exhausted. After using for about 25 days I faced a strange problem. As the laptop showed low battery; I connected the charger to my laptop. The caherger shows green light but the icon on the top said NOT CHARGING. I got scared and started to restart the laptop and connected it again to the charger. But still it said, NOT CHARGING. I took the laptop to the Apple Care (Authorized). They removed the battery and connected the charger to the laptop, it still did not TURN ON. They tried using different chargers but still the laptop is not turning on. They have concluded on the following.
    1. The battery is OK
    2. The charger I am using is OK.
Now even they are clueless as to why the laptop is not getting started/ Charging the battery.
Please help. I dont even have the back up for my data.
    Regards

  • Mac Book Pro Retina 2012 Battery Issue

guys i wanted to ask about the mac book pro retina 2012 battery issue
is it best to leave the laptop plug in charging all the time or let the laptop battery to have a full cycle all the time?
my usage is mainly autocad and photoshop.
i also have window 7 install on boot camp to play battlefield 3
my mac book aged 12 weeks adn the battery loadcycles is 78
    Battery Capacity : 8259mAh
    Design Capacity :  8460mAh
i also read on apple support saying it's advicable not to leave the laptop charge in. i ask on some forum some plug in all the time some perform full cycle.
so which is the best procedure ( plug in all the time / perform full cycle ) so that the battery can last for 5 years.

so what you're saying is for heavy usage plug in the charger
for light usage like web browsing, listneing songs, check mail, etc use battery right?
    You're right
what's the best ideal to drain the battery ( use the battery until how many percentage ) 5% or 20% then charge it.
in malaysia the reseller says 5%. but some says 20%
I recommend to charge it at 20% and use all the battery until your Mac shuts down at least once a month. With this, you'll have a healthy battery

  • Mac Book Air is charged but the circle just keeps going around and I can't even get to sign in?

Mac Book Air is charged, the apple appears but the broken circle just keeps going and does not even take me to the sign in; any hints?

If you don't see any option, maybe your hard disk is damaged.
Close the OS X installer pressing the red button at the top left corner of the window, and open Disk Utility. Then, after opening Disk Utility, look at the left sidebar. What do you see at the top of the sidebar? Do you see the hard disk? If not, take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired.
If you see the hard disk, select it and try to repair it. If it shows an error at the end, you will have to take the Mac to an Apple Store

  • Regarding iPhone link up with Mac book, am i charged by my cell company even if i am on wifi?

    Hi there!
Regarding iPhone link up with Mac book, am i charged by my cell company even if i am on wifi?
I ask because i travel to europe often, and need to get a phone there.. this would save me a whole lot of money and hastle
    Thank you

Streaming will be faster from the new iMac.  However it is still a good idea to keep the bulk of your material, 400 GB is a lot of content, on external drives.  That serves to protect the material if an internal drive fails, and also keeps the internal drive from getting too loaded down.  You can increase speed by simply moving content you want to use in the short term to the iMac SSD where it will be at its fastest speed, and then take it off when no longer needed there.
That gives the speed and security for your material.

  • Why is my Mac Book Pro not charging the battery?

I let my Mac Book get down to 4% and now its just taking power to stay up. When will it charge my battery?

Keep it charging for a while.
If you can, do not use the computer for a while.
    Let it charge.
    Best.

  • Charging Mac Book Air 11 inch battery

    hi, all
I have been advised by an Apple retailer and service provider to start recharging my Air's battery when the charge remaining drops to 80%, the rationale being that below 80% means another battery cycle. Is this true? Or would it be better to charge when the charge remaining drops to 40-50%??
    Ken

That is incorrect. A "cycle" requires a 100% cumulative discharge followed by a 100% cumulative recharge. If you discharge the battery to 50% then recharge it you have complete 1/2 a cycle. You can permit the charge to drop to between 10-20% before recharging. This allows the battery to discharge enough to keep the electrons flowing and will ensure a longer battery life.

  • Mac Book Pro Visually Deformed Battery

Here is the another example with so called, Visually Deformed Battery.
You can see it for yourself on this link.

I have already contacted Apple through Local Apple Representative in Croatia, Apcom.hr(istyle.hr) but they refused to replace it. The case is that Apcom was willing to replace it but when they contacted Apple support they received a notice to not do it because of some A1189 number. Yeah right!
I have tried to contact Apple support directly but I could find a single email address from The Apple corporate website. Anyone want to comment on the brand and user experience. Also worth of mentioning is that I have used a feedback section, two weeks ago but I have not received answer to this day. Anyway, I am curious to see the result of this post.

Seems like you set yourself up for a "no answer" siituation. Expect the worst and you usually get it. Anyway, I am an Apple fan after my switch to this Mac Book Pro 17" in 2007 so I couldn't help wanting to send you an answer. Are you in Croatia? I imagine there are not a lot of friendly Apple stores full of Apple Geniuses floating around over there. However, there are several posts here in support that address this issue already.
It looks like people in the US are having good luck walking in and getting their batteries replaced free of charge. I am certainly hoping so, since I just noticed a couple of hours ago that mine has bulged, again. My first one became visually deformed when my computer was about 18 months old. The good news for me is that at this rate, I may never have to buy a new battery. Apple should get consistent however. Seems like there should be a way for you to contact them from the website, but since that failed, try pulling up any US city and getting an Apple store phone number or email. If you have Skype you can call them for free and if not shoot them an email. There has to be a way to get this resolved. My experience with Apple has been wonderful both product and service. After years of PC's and Windows I cherish having a machine that just keeps on working!

  • My mac book pro wont charge even when plugged in what is this most likely to be, my mac book pro wont charge even when plugged in what is this most likely to be

my mac book pro wil not turn on even after being plugged in all day, the light on the charger is on a very faint green but will not power up, if anyone else has had this issue please let me no what it was, it could be the battery although my partner seems to think its the little black box the wires go in and out of
    Cheers
    Lee

    First try resetting the SMC.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If that doesn't do it, the best thing would be to take it to the Genius Bar for a free eval. If you can't, best guesses are:
    1. The battery
    2. The charger
    3. The internal board that the power supply connects to.
    What little black box?

  • Mac book pro fully charged but does not power on

My Mac book  pro is fully charged but does not power on.No lights sounds...nothing!

try doing SMC reset, the following article tells how:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
if it still won't turn on try the following article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367
if neither of this helps i would take to apple store or apple service provider and have it looked at for possible repair.

  • 7200 rpm hard drive for Mac Book..use up battery faster?

Would a 7200rpm hard drive use up the battery faster in a Mac Book. There wouldn't be any problems with heat or anything either, would there?
    thanks!!

The power requirements are virtually the same for their 5400rpm counterparts (100GB Seagate Momentus 5400rpm to 7200rpm for example) so on that front I wouldn't be concerned.
What I would consider is that 7200rpm drives do in fact get hotter than their 5400rpm drive counterparts not to mention that can be much noisier. While I wouldn't expect the difference to be serious it is worth considering.

  • After my Mac Book Prow is charged, should I leave it connected to an outlet or unplug and use it to 20 -25percent

one trainer told me never to leave the laptop pluged in, another sait to leave it and just use battery occasionally.

It is fine to leave it plugged in, the Mac has a circuit that will not allow it to over charge.
It is a good idea to run it on the battery approx once a month down to about 20-30% to "exercise" the battery. Leaving on power is not an issue,
