some Early 2011 MacBook Pros originally came with Snow Leopard installed, and some originally came with Lion installed. If yours originally came with Snow Leopard installed, then you should be able to install Snow Leopard from its model-specific grey Mac OS X Install DVD. (The white retail Snow Leopard DVD can’t be used with it; it was made for use with earlier models, which originally came with either Tiger or Leopard installed.) If yours originally came with Lion installed, then it won’t accept any Snow Leopard DVD; instead, you’d be able to use OS X Internet Recovery to download and install its original version of Lion from Apple’s servers. -
Can't Install windows on Macbook Pro Early 2011 with SSD upgrade
Dear all,
A few months ago I had an SSD upgrade and I purchased a Caddy and installed my old HDD on it, and I also changed my Battery because the old one only lasted for 15 inutes after 40 cycles :O
Anyways when I insert a windows 7 or 8 x64 DVD in my USB Samsung DVD Drive, My mac book detects Windows (with the windows 7 DVD) and Detects Windows and EFI Boot (with Windows 8), I have tried every option of those doesn't work.
With EFI it just boots Mac
With Windows it boots to a screen with one blinking cursor top left and then it ejects the DVD ROM and that it :s
I do not know what is wrong :/
P.S. when i installed the SSD I had windows on the old drive it didn't work after the upgrade (this is what made me link both incidents).I am willing to try this, but I was kinda trying to find a solution that doesn't need me to unscrew stuff ..etc

You have to boot the system from the original Snow Leopard DVD. With the DVD inserted in the drive restart the system and nhold down either the Option key, and then select the SNow Leopard DVD from the boot selection screen that comes up, or the C key to boot directly from the DVD drive.
Once the computer starts from the SL DVD Click the Utilities menu item and select Disk Utility. Once that starts select the top most entry in the keft side, the drive name and size, then the partition tab. Select one partition from the Partition Layout area drop down, Middle area, give it the name Macintosdh HD and format Mac extended (Journaled) and then click the Apply button.
Once all that is done exit DU and continue with the install. -
Help after installing additional SSD to macbook pro early 2011
I just installed a new ssd in addition the my original harddrive by removing the superdrive. I got everything working good and can see both drives in Finder (OSX MT LION was installed in the SSD then i used migration assistant to get user info into SSD but i did not transfer music, downloads, or pictures). The problem is that i cannot access my old folders off the harddrive because it says i do not have permission to open. I tried right clicking on many different folders, including the subfolders, and choosing "Get Info" in order to change permissions to allow everyone to read and write but I am still not able to go in and when I did get into a folder there was nothing in there. I thought i might have had deleted my files accidentally but when I see the disk space available, the harddrive only has 100 Gigs free (out of 500gb) and iPhoto found all my pictures, told me there was a problem with the permissions and fixed them, now i can see all my pictures in iPhoto. Any suggestions to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
If your hard drive in the opti-bay is still 'intact' and bootable, I would just boot to it, use Disk Utility to (once again) erase and format the SSD and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the HD to the SSD. You'd have no permissions problems after that.

if your computer does not support the operating system you wish to install in bootcamp then you have to use a virtual machine like virtual box to install the operating system you wish to install

bootcamp mean dual boot which mean a dual osx install
virtual machine is installing another operating system as an applications so to speak

I get this error nearly enough every time i turn on my MacBook Pro (Early 2011 Model), i says it needs to shut down because an error occured and when it comes back on i get this error below, which i copied and pasted.... You should be using the developers installer/unistaller to remove Log Me In from OS X.
Somehow it's in OS X, I don't know, but it's there and you need to remove it. I'm not dealing with Windows, just OS X.
Talk to Log Me In people and find out what is installed where so you can do a manual deletion out of OS X.
If that doesn't work, you have to reboot holding the Shift key down manually search for any Log Me In or Himachi files on your computer, in your System/Library/Extensions folder too, use the free Easy Find.

At some point, your internal HD was selected for use as Time Machine backups, and a Backups.backupdb folder was created at the top level. So OSX thinks you're trying to install it on the same drive as your backups.
Open your internal HD with the Finder (you won't find it via a Spotlight or Finder search) and delete that folder. -

I need your expert advice to proceed. I bought apple TV and it works fine with my iPad and iPhones also fine with itune of my Mac Book Pro BUT I am not seeing setting which says "Airplay Mirroring" in system preference -> Display at all.
I checked my mac serial number and it shows the model as below. As far as I understood this feature should be there from 2011 onwards.

I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA. It is now running Mavericks. I connect it to a 27" Cinema Display that I bought in China after we moved to China. Before I installed Mavericks, I could run all of the Adobe CS6 and Adobe CS5.5 applications on my Macbook Pro while connected to the cinema display. Now that I have Mavericks installed, whenever I am connected to my 27" CInema display my Adobe applications crash upon opening. I know this is a rare scenario, but does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there a new driver that needs installed? I'd appreciate any help.
I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.

Please help me! I'm confused.
My 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011) Keeps saying that No WIFI Hardware is installed.
My Mac has been running great until earlier this week. I turned it off one night before bed and then the next morning as I switched it on, it said there was no WIFI hardware installed. I launched recover mode which is when I figured my WIFI works in recovery mode just not in the Mac itself. I reinstalled a fresh copy of OS X Yosemite which worked for a day, but sure thing the next day I loaded the Mac and then there was the same issue. So I reinstalled OS X Yosemite... AGAIN!! this time I hit an error, Yosemite had deleting my recovery drive and unmounted my Macintosh HD but thats anther story to fix another time. Once I finally repaired my disk to install Yosemite my WIFI was working again... until I restarted my Mac and it went off and the error reappeared. Luckily Apple released OS X 10.10.2 so I plugged in the ethernet and installed it which has fixed my WIFI... for now, I'm to scared to restart my Mac. Does Anyone know what is going on? Thank you
Like I said when it gives the error (No WIFI Hardware installed) the wifi connects in recovery just not on my Mac OS. I'm currently using my Mac to submit this question and all seems fine so far.
Thanks again.Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

j.Quicktime comes pre-installed on all Macs. Quicktime 10 should be on your Dock and the original application inside your Application folder. Quicktime 7 is inside your Utility folder. VLC is the application that you need to download.
