i would like to know how i can install Autodesk 3ds max and Autodesk maya on my 27 inch mac ? (2012, sorry i forgot my OSX Lion version number)

Hi Sanal,
Maya will run natively on your Mac assuming you meet the minimum system requirements, however 3ds Max currently needs a virtualized environment such as Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion to operate.

Could Motion 4 replace Autodesk 3ds Max through Photoshop?

I need to draw a 3d depth map and save it as a BMP image file to be used with a Photoshop plug-in that creates a fake depth of field (DOF).
As you may know, in photography, DOF is governed by three factors: aperture, lens focal length and shooting distance. DOF PRO ( http://www.dofpro.com/overview.htm ) is probably the only plug-in that addresses them very well, because it uses a different approach instead of just a simple gaussian blur to reproduce a believable DOF effect.
Unfortunately DOF PRO is 32-bit windows only and requires the drawing of a depth map that contains information regarding the location of objects within a scene, through the use of such software as Autodesk 3ds Max 8. Is there such a 3ds tool in Mac OS? Could Motion 4 do the job? Could Motion 4 work seamlessly wth Photoshop CS5 (its Quick Seletion Tool) and create a still image and save the 3d scene as a BMP image file to be used with DOF PRO plug-in?

I don't know if Motion 4 has a defocusing plug-in or not and I only know that Motion 4 can create 3d animation videos.
A depth map should look like this in black and white (indicating the foreground and Bokeh area) with a grayscale as calculated by a 3ds-like software. The death map should be saved as a BMP image file.

Hi I installed a new hard drive in my Mac mini osx lion an when I turn it on I get a flashing file with a question mark. I tried holding command and R keys when turning it on but the recovery fails to work. Does any one know how I can get it to recover?

I can hold the option key at start up and choose my network, then Internet recovery shows up with an arrow pointing up. When I click on the arrow Internet recovery fails and all I get is a globe with a triangle on it with an exclamation mark on it, and under that it says

I had the same error. And i had a Computer that had worked, with a SSD drive and 16GB upgrade done by the owner himself.
I tried swapping with a Mechinal Harddrive, no luck.
Kept the Mechanical drive in, and tried with some other Ram, it worked..
So for me this error and after reading the other responses can be boiled down to a Harddrive problem or Ram issue.
It was Ram for me..

Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

Parallels + Autodesk 3Ds Max design 2010

Hey! I recently downloaded 3ds max design 2010 (student trial, 6mth lease if it matters) and it downloaded successfully onto my computer. I currently have autodesk autocad 2008 student version which works perfectly fine. When I go to run the 3ds max, it starts up normally and then roughly 30 seconds later parallels shuts down completely and gives a 'fatal error' message apologizing for the shut down and asks to have a written reason as to what happened to send off (which i doubt actually does anything). Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't understand why it keeps occurring, i've tried to restart it like 10 times and it happens every time. Thanks!

I received a response from the tech development side of
Autodesk on the Max 9 and
Shockwave 3D issue.
The reply was a little different to the one I posted before.
I have been told it was
not a mistake but an incompatibility with the higher bit
functionality of Max 9. So
that's why it was removed. But it is temporary.
Was told:
"This problem has been flagged and is currently being worked
on.
We will have some service packs sometime in the near future.
Cannot disclose a date
at the moment."

Use the add windows feature from the windows control panel.
Or use PowerShell:

Does Premiere Pro CS3 integrate/import Autodesk 3ds files? Anyone know of any issues or problems? My video guy wants to add animation to his projects but I want to make sure the two programs/formats will be compatible.

I don't think Premiere will import 3DS, OBJ, COB, CAR or any 3-D formats. I don't think Premiere has a raytracing render engine to render the 3-D files. I think you will have to render an AVI. The PP CS3 manual should list what it can import.

I have installed Windows 7 into my Macbook Pro 15 inch with Lions as operating system. (current model with 2.2 GHz i7 processor, 500 GB HD ad 5400 rpm). When I started with boot camp, the system promped me to create a disc, which I presume is for the drivers for windows 7. Now windows is intalled. What do I do with the CD that the system created for me? Also, why does the system automatically start in Win7 instead of Lion. I need to pression the option key to have it start in OS X. I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

Insert it while you are in Windows, if it does not autostart run setup.exe.
Choose your startup disk using Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk (in OSX) or Control Panel>Boot Camp>Startup Disk (in Windows)

How To Install 10.5 On A 1st Gen iMac G5

Hi All
1:40am and I give up and ask for help!
I am trying to install 10.5 on my old iMac G5 but am having massive problems.
I wont bore you all with the history but just descibe the position I now find myslef in and hope someone can help me get this machine up and running.
So, now I know that my machine can't read dual layer disks and that I have to use target mode to my brand new MBP running the latest version of 10.5.
The iMac (please don't ask why) now has a formatted HD with nothing on it.
It will boot into 10.4 on the install DVD OK but I can not find out how to link the two machines and thus use the DVD drive on the MBP to do the install.
I have tried turning the iMac on with the 10.4 DVD in the slot and holding down T but that has no effect ... just boots into the 10.4 installation routine.
I have looked around in the 10.4 Utilities menu to try and find n option to boot into target disk mode but can not see it in startup disk or disk repair. Might be too late at night but ...
Any help with this gratefully received.

Unless there's something wrong with your hardware the machine should be able to read dual layer disks, but the target mode should work for installation as well.
To boot off the leopard DVD on the iMac, press and hold "C" at bootup with the DVD in the drive, not "T". If this doesnt work (as you mentioned the thing has a hard time reading dual layer DVDs), then do the following to boot off of the DVD in Target Disk mode with the DVD in your MacBook Pro.
With the DVD in the drive, boot the MacBook and hold "T" and it will have the firewire symbol dancing on the screen. Connect the MBP to your iMac using a firewire cable. Then boot up the iMac and hold "options" down until it displays a list of drives that can be booted from. The Leopard DVD in the MacBook should be displayed (so should your MBP hard drive, but dont boot off of this). Select the installer DVD and press go (might be a bit laggy, so be patient), and it should boot into the installer.

I have an older macbook which I was able to install OSX Lion 10.7.5 onto, and it works good with this setup.
However I wanted to have the iPhoto app from the App Store installed on my Macbook, but looking in the App Store it says that iPhoto is compatible with OSX 10.9 or later.
How can I get a version of iPhoto that is compatible with my OSX Lion macbook??
