HT3986 i can not install windows 7 with boot camp on my macbook pro 17-inch eairly 2011

I have been trying to install windows 7 on my MacBook pro 17inch 2011, once i get to the step "burn a copy to a cd or DVD" the system runs and burns the information to the DVD but when the next step appears after I create the partition the program dose not recognize the DVD I created. when i save the copy to an external hard drive that is MS-DOS (FAT) formatted the same thing happens, the system just does not recognize the saved file. I have updated my computer and tired to check if I have any updates for the boot camp were available my current version is 4.0.1 (429). if there is anyone out there who can help, please do.

1st, you read the full guide, and you understand that you need to supply your own copy of Windows 7 (Home Premium preferably 64-bit).

Can I install one 8 GB ram in a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011).  The other slot is not working, I have only one slot that works. It is stated in this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270#link1 , that the maximum memory is 8 GB where every slot slot has 4 Gb.  Is there any problem if i install only one 8 Gb ram in the working slot ?

You should be able to do that.

Understand that there is no guarantee it will work, but based on the above it should work for you.

  • If i buy parallels can i install it with boot camp?

So yeah If i buy parallels can i install it with boot camp?

    bootcamp is a bootloader
    a setup tool for osx
and a zip file with tested windows drivers and programs for the apple hardware
one use the setup tool to make some of the apple hd windows filesystem
one install windows on the space and the bootloader let you hold down option key to boot into what you want to use today
parallels is a virtual machine as in running windows under osx in a window if one wish
parallels can as the only virtual machine that I know of access a bootcamp patition directly where other virtual machines just keep the other hd as a file
when parallels use the windows partition it will like other virtual machines not be able to access the video card for 3d games though that is only for real bootcamp
users who don't need to play fancy 3d games on windows will have an easier time using a virtual machine like parallels or virtualbox(free) or wmware
they require much much much less tech knowlege to install and dont have driver issues like bootcamp can
both a virtual machine and bootcamp require you to bring your own windows and valid windows key

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.
This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting
    Just follow the steps:
    Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")
Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:
    i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)
    i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)
Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.
Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)
Right click the file and select Properties
Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target
Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)
    (remember, i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 / i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0)
It should look something like this:
Make sure to add space between " and -"
I hope This helps, although late cx

  • I wand to install Windows 7 on my band new Macbook Pro 13 inch. Do I need to buy a specific Mac version of Windows 7 or do I install a standard Windows 7 OS on the Mac

I want to install Windows 7 on my band new Macbook Pro 13 inch and use Parallel Desktop 6 torun it alongside my Mac OS. Do I need to buy a specific Mac version of Windows 7 or do I install a standard Windows 7 OS on the Mac using boot camp.

As vazandrew said, Boot Camp will work with any standard copy of Win 7.
The only exception would be if you want to run it in a virtual environment, such as with Parallels or WMware.
I personally recommend Boot Camp, however, since it only uses the resources for one OS at a time.

  • Can't Install Windows in Boot Camp - Windows Driver Issue

Before update to Mavericks, I had an installation of WIndows 7 running in Bootcamp.  I had updated this to Windows 8.
Just prior to Mavericks release, the hard drive in my MacBook Pro started to fail.  I had a full backup of the OS X partitiion, but did not have one of Windows.
After the drive was replaced, I did a fresh install of Mavericks and I'm planning on doing new installs of my apps over the coming days.  (It's an opportunity to clear-out remains of old apps/OS's.)  I have hit a wall with Boot Camp, though:
I used the Boot Camp Assistant to download the driver sets ("Windows support software")  to a USB stick and partition the HD. However, although the Mac then boots off the Windows 8 (64-bit) installer DVD I can only get as far as choosing the installation language before I get stuck on the next step where it's looking for missing drivers.  At first, I thought this was some reference to the ones downloaded from Apple, but I am now pretty certain that these just get installed after [in] Windows to allow access to the Apple hardware.
I have tried installing Windows 7 and get hung-up at the same point (which did not happen on 10.8).
Does anyone have any insight into what's happening and how I can get around the problem please?

Just chiming in - having the same issue as Bernard and Ian here myself, but with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  Trying to install on MBP Late 2013, Mavericks, using USB.  I get through the bootcamp phase to the language selection in Windows and then get the drivers error message.
Called apple tech support and they indicated that OEMs can sometimes be lightweight versions of the DVD installers (i.e. they leave out certain drivers because they assume a certain set of hardware components will be present, typically hardware that perhaps only PCs have and Macs don't) - so they suggested trying to get my hands on a retail version of the ISO file that might have all of the drivers necessary.  I tried downloading every feasible iteration of the windows trial ISOs here but every one of them gave me the same error message in Windows setup.  My next step is to call microsoft to ask them for a "complete" ISO - I'm hoping they can cooperate since I do have a valid, un-used authentication code for my Windows product.  I'll let you know if this works.
In the meantime - has anyone found an easier fix?

  • Problems installing Windows with Boot Camp

    Hello,
i am having this strange issue with boot camp. i have my windows 7 install dvd and go through all the standard boot camp procedure's, but once its finished partitioning the disk and restarts it just opens up to the apple logo on a grey screen, no spining logo, no status bar, nothing! ive left it for 6 hours on this screen 2-3 times now and nothing is happening. when i turn off and on again it just goes to a black screen telling me to install a bootable device and press any key. BUT THE INSTAL DISC IS IN!!! its driving me insane!
windows was burned to a dvd using disc aid and the .iso copied over fine and was verified and everything. the machine im trying to get this to run on is a 15 mbp 2.66 i7. the optical drive has been replaced with a 120gb ssd and there is a 1tb internal sitting in the hdd bay. i dont know if that has any relavance to this issue? i boot osx 10.7 (mountain lion) off the ssd and am trying to boot camp my hdd, but that couldent cause issues could it?
ive had a look around the other disscussions and fourums for 4 days now and i think i have seen nearly every bootcamp related youtube video there is! AND IT STILL DOSENT WORK!
if any one has ANY idea or sugesstion on how i can rectify this issue it would be greatly appriceated.
    thanks for your time!
    Harry.

"You can't do both boot drive and storage drive on the same drive.
A boot drive requires (all data off first) it to be formatted GUID and OSX Extended Journaled, then OS X installed, then option key at boot to select that HD OS X boot drive, then BootCamp proceedure ran and install into the partition it creates on the HD."
THANKS AGAIN, i think im getting closer to a solution, i really dident think that simple old bootcamp could become so complicated!.
so i couldent (boot off the ssd as normal) and then create a seperate partition on the hdd of about 30gb, install osx on it, boot from that (with the optical bay back inside), create a thrid partition on the hdd via bootcamp then instal windows?
its just that erasing and reformating the hdd sounds a bit scary, its taken months of getting the permissions and fixing rouge ubd processes all right so everything works perfectly and seamlessly together with the ssd+hdd combo
"You can replace the data back into OS X on the HD and use that as extra storage, but your main use OS X user(s) needs to remain on the boot SSD.
To do this you need to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the OS X boot partition of the SSD to the blank/empty of data HD, this will copy all the Users accounts accuratly so you can access them from the SSD.
As you can see here, I can access the same user folders of my cloned partition from the original partition, no "-" minus signs on the folders as I'm the exact same user.
I am currently booted into Macintosh HD and accessing my same named user folder on the clone on Macintosh HD 2.
So basically OS X on HD will become your new "Storage Drive"
this is pretty much exactly how im set up at the moment! with the user account and applications on the SSD and libarys like iphoto, itunes etc are on the HDD and i symlinked some others like the downloads off to the hdd aswell.
thanks for your help again, ive given you some more stars for your time!
    Harry.

  • Installing windows with boot camp

i have a legal windows xp cd with sp2 in good condition and i am trying to install it on the 35gig partition i made with boot camp, however every time the installation gets to 53% during the copying files phase, it cannot copy a certain file and stops. i tried skipping the file in the installation to no avail. i am running out of ideas if anyone knows what might help.

Are you running Leopard or Tiger? This is posted in the Tiger forums. I believe the only version of Boot Camp for Tiger was a beta version for which the license has expired, although [this MacWorld article|http://www.macworld.com/article/61249/2007/11/bootcamp.html] says existing partitions made before the end of the license will continue to work.

  • Can I install window 7 enterprise 32 bit on MacBook Pro

I have installed window 7 enterprise 32 bit on my MacBook Pro but it appears no software drivers such as Bluethoot USB Bost Controller, Enternet Controller, FaceTIme HD Camera (Built-in), Network Controller...etc. Then I tried to download Boot Camp Support Software 4 but it did not work.
So, can i install window 7 enterprise 32 bit on Mac? How to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

You don't say what year/version Macbook Pro you have. Newer Macbook Pros only support 64 bit Windows. See the tables here to see which Windows your computer supports. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
There are several reasons you should use 64 bit Windows on a newer Macbook Pro:
    Your computer is 64 bit
32 bit Windows can only use about 3.5 GB of your installed ram
32 bit programs run in 64 bit Windows
There is no reason to use 32 bit Windows in a modern Macbook Pro.

So let me explain something. I just got the macbook pro put some music on it and pictures. so what do I do to fix this problem? please let me know.

Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If you are unable to repair the drive then you will need to reformat the drive using Disk Utility. Of course this will erase all your files so have a backup before you start.
    Basic Backup
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
