HT3986 why can't my boot camp in mac system detect the win7 system i've installed

I try to use parallel in my macbook pro, but it can't show me the boot camp option that i used to intall win7.
when i click my boot camp assistance in mac system, it shows me only to continue to install windows. is it supposed to be like this?

Unclear what you did and askng your system to do.
Can you boot Windows natively now?
If you want to dual boot Windows and Mac, you use Boot Camp.
If you want to do all that, AND you also want to use your Windows as a guest OS under Mac using parallels you setup parallels after Windows was installed and functioning and fully updated first.
And Parallels has their How To, FAQ and support forum.

  • Can't download boot camp for Mac Air A1466

Hi, I bought a Macbook air yesterday, which I guess could be the newest version.
After I got home, I'm trying to install windows on this Air. But when I try to download the Windows Support from boot camp Assistant, Its' showing the following message:
"Can't install Windows Support Software because it is not currently available from the Software Update Server."
I contacted phone support, the technican told me that apple update server is down, he don't know what to do.
I tried to use the boot camp in SnowLeopard disk, which gives me"the bootcamp doesn't support current model".
Now I'm lost, I don't know what to do with it. If I couldn't install the Windows on this Air, I wouldn't buy it.
I have other Macbook Air which I believe is 2010 model, works fine with dual boot, Lion and Windows 7.
Anybody has the direct download link for bootcamp that compatiable with my Macbook Air??
Please help me sovle this, I need this new computer for my next trip before Sunday.
    Thanks.

really annoying issue. i have the same problem and looks like a million others who have posted in the past 2 days is about the same thing lol
yes they've not released the new package yet. BUT if you have the old package say from the 2011 MBA, then you can install drivers from the package manually (just explore a bit and you'll find them) and most things will work. i.e. i did the most basic things like wifi and display (! HD3000 drivers works for 4000)  and it's all been fine for now.
obviously this is just a workaround but im sure once the proper package is out, you can just install it on top of your windows installation (with manual drivers) and everything will be as it should be.
quite irresponsible of Apple imo. everyone is stuck on this.
in the keynote, someone mentioned they "closed down apple just so they can run/staff WWDC". makes me imagine that those words literally, meaning we'll have to wait till the event ends before we can hope for anything lol.
i sure as **** hope they're not waiting till Mountain Lion before the new update is out....

  • Macbook Pro w/ Boot Camp - Best way to reformat the 32bit Windows 7 and install 64 bit version without affecting the Mac side?

Hi guys! I have a new Macbook Pro purchased from Best Buy yesterday. I had the Geek Squad upgrade the RAM to 8 gigs (They only had PNY brand, I was concerned but went with it anyway). I had them install Boot Camp Windows 7 Ultimate. Today I picked it up and when I started playing with it I learned that they installed the 32 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate instead of the 64 bit version, why, I have NO IDEA.
So, I want to replace the Win 7 installation with the 64 bit version but have read that this can be tricky. What is the proper way to do this? I'm not sure I trust the Geek Squad to do this for me.
I assume I need to reformat the Windows partition, defragment and then install the 64 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate, but am not completely sure. I want to be sure that I do NOT do anything that could affect the Mac side
    What do you guys think?

I think you should take it back to the Geeks and tell them what you want, I also think you should backup before you do.
You do not need to reformat or repartition, you need to reinstall Windows from a 64bit copy, 32 & 64 have identical requirements as far as partition and format go, defragmenting has nothing at all to do with your needs.

  • Ok, so after I upgraded to ML I can no longer Boot camp...

The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.". Why does it say this?

  • After upgrading to Lion can't get Boot Camp to work! Just get "startup dusk cannot be portioned or restored to a single partition"?

After upgrading to Lion can't get Boot Camp to work! Just get "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition". Anytone?

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
    Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

It is difficult to understand your issue from your discription. I have three suggestions.
    1. Visit the Boot Camp forum. You posted in the Mac Book Pro forum about your Boot Camp issue. The Boot Camp gurus hang out in the Boot Camp form. https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
    2. Read the Boot Camp installation guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
    3. Do not post personal information such as phone numbers in public forums.

  • Can I use Boot Camp and Parallels 5???

I have a windows 7 partition w/ boot camp. I was wondering if I can also have parallels 5 too. Here is a example, Can I use boot camp for my games and use parallels for little stuff and internet? I want both! Can I do this? I am thinking about getting parallels 5.

    Hi,
with earlier Windows versions (XP or Vista) this was definitely possible to do.
I am not that sure if there are problems with Windows 7 doing this.
Have a look at the Parallels Support Forum here http://forum.parallels.com/

  • Can I Use Boot Camp to Install Windows XP on Late2012 MacMini

I can't remember everything I've read here in the Community, I still have my Windows XP laptop, haven't used it except to transport videos. Can I use Boot Camp to partition & install the XP on my Dec 2012 Mac Mini? Running Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I still have my Seagate ext HD 1.5 TB, connected to the Mini, but haven't reset it to Mac only. I'm having a slight prob with memory loss, mine, not the Mac's. I think I read that I can't do this with Mountain Lion, but when I try to find what I think I read, it's so far back, I can't get to it. Please help? Thanks in advance.

The Late 2012 Mac mini only supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so you can't install Windows XP with Boot Camp.
If you need Windows XP, download an application like Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, create a virtual machine and install Windows XP there. You shouldn't have any RAM problem with Windows XP.
OS X can copy to FAT and exFAT drives, so you can format your external drive in "MS-DOS (FAT)". First, open Finder, choose your external drive in the sidebar and copy all the files to the desktop. Then, use Disk Utility to format your external disk in "MS-DOS (FAT)" > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, copy all the files back

  • Windows Vista Ultimate on Dell XPS Notebook: Why do I need Boot  Camp?

I use Windows Vista Ultimate on my Dell XPS Notebook, and application software includes iTunes and Apple Store. Is this why I received a message to download "Boot Camp"? Why do I need Boot Camp?

  • Can't update Boot Camp from 3.1 to 3.2 in Windows 7 (32-bit)

The update starts to install, then I have to restart to finish updating, but when I do just that and fire up Windows 7 Boot Camp still tells me it's version 3.1. THis happens when I update via Apple Software Update. When I download the installer package it tells me the following: "The function you want to use, is on a network source which is not available." But I downloaded the package! Where else would it be? So until now I am not able to use my Magic Mouse in Windows 7. Is there a workaround for this problem? Thanks in advance.

When I inserted Snow Leopard DVD, the autorun didn't show me an option to install Boot Camp Drivers. Just like the author of this topic, it only showed me 2 options: to Install Mac OS X remotely and to install CD/DVD Sharing.
Then, I've run Windows Explorer, navigated to Snow Leopard DVD, opened Boot Camp folder and runned "setup.exe". The installer opened and Boot Camp 3.0 was installed successfully.
I don't know if it could help you guys with that error message, but after the installation of Windows 7 64bits, I've rebooted my Macbook Pro. Only after the reboot I did the Boot Camp Drivers installation.
You can also try to run the "setup.exe" as Administrator (right-click, Run as administrator).
Also, my Snow Leopard DVD is that grey one with the white "Mac OS X Install DVD" labelled on it.

  • HT5639 Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?

Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp wasn't designed to install Linux. Apart from that, the Boot Camp version included in OS X Mountain Lion will ask you to insert a Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD in order to run Boot Camp, as far as I know.
Apple doesn't support Linux on Macs, but it works properly on Macs. There are a lot of how-to's in the Internet about the steps to install Linux and the different possibilities you have. Also, what distribution do you want to install on the computer? You should also consider the option to install Linux on a virtual machine

  • How can I activate Boot Camp Assistant?

How can I activate Boot Camp?  I want to install an educational library that is on a CD.  People that have PC's can use the CD.  I have a mac mini and I want to open the CD to read/review.  I have the Snow Leopard model.

Open Boot Camp Assistant in the Utilities folder. You will see the following:
Click on the Print Installation & Setup Guide button. Click the OK button in the dropdown panel. You will now see the main Print panel. You can now print the document to your printer. If you prefer to make a PDF file you can read on the computer instead, then select Save as PDF from the PDF dropdown menu on the lower left. Save it to the location of your choice.
Now, read this document carefully in order to follow the proper procedures for creating a Windows partition on your hard drive to which you can install Windows 7 from a retail Windows 7 installer DVD.
    Other options for running Windows:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    6. Last is Q.  Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs.  It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
