I've downloaded (on ibook) a "how to" book on autodesk maya. The hard copy comes with a tutorial DVD. Is there a way I can retrieve this material or did I lose out on those goodies?

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything incorrectly from what I can see. Have you tried restarting the iPad and then see if you can backup?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

I have bought a book and I was not experienced with the iBooks app , so I couldn't find the book I bought although it was already in my library I downloaded that same book again . Hi everybody, I just recently upgraded my laptop and now can't play my music anymore. I bought the music years ago on an Apple ID that I haven't used for a while and even though I have a password written down, it doesn't seem to be the correct one. Furthermore, when I try to reset the password and send an e-mail to this old Apple ID, I don't receive anything and thus cannot even reset the passwort. Lastly, neither my, nor my mother's birthdate will work for security questions in order to reset the passwort. I really don't care about the account, I just want to get my music back! So if anybody either knows how to (re?)activate this Apple ID OR how to get my music playable both on my laptop as also on my other Apple devices without having to deal with this old Apple ID, I'd be super thankful for any help or tips!

Sorry to say you are out of luck.
The serial numbers came on the cd case. If they are no longer there, you have no way of using the program except as a 30 day trial. Adobe does not sell CS5 licenses any more.

Try this:
Open your iBooks app on your iPad
Select the Store Button at the top
Select Purchased at the bottom
You will see your AppleID on the right at the bottom, then Redeem, then Support
Click on your Apple ID, and when the AppleID window comes up with the options, Sign Out
Then Sign In again and try redownloading your book

When I download audio books from the library I can't find them in my itunes files. All of the chapters do not transfer to my itouch even though they all were downloaded.

I finally figured it out! On the book page of itunes I went to preferences and then import settings and changed the settings from aac to mp3 and when I went back to the page there was my itouch and clicked on it and then books and there were all my books and files! deleted 3 chapters that were greyed out and transfered them again and it worked. Thank you for your help.

Are they described in the store as being in English ? If they are then you could try deleting them from the bookshelf in the iBooks app and redownload them via the Purchased link in the ibookstore in the app : re-downloading.
If they re-download in the wrong language again then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account (Store > View My Apple ID on iTunes 11) and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find the books and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.
