wanted to gift someone a book to their iBooks. is that possible
I can't see "gift this app or book" botton in iBooks so I think that it is impossible to gift a book.

You can only have one book open on-screen at a time, and you will need to go back to the bookshelf to select and re-open the second book. If you have the second book from a different store so that it's in a different app (e.g. an Amazon purchase in the Kindle app) then you could switch between then two apps/books via the iPad's taskbar - but you won't be able to have both apps open on screen at the same time.

I am currently writing a manual in Ibooks author for my company that is going on the company web server; the server requires a common access card to access the server. Because of this downloading the Ibook directly to an Ipad isn’t an option.
The work around I was thinking of using is logging on a pc with your common access card that has an itunes account, downloading it to the pc and then syncing it via the cable to the IPAD. is this possible?
I have read under the FAQ section, “Can I download books from other websites?” the answer says you can download ePub and PDF files on your Mac or PC, but doesn’t mention the Ibook format?
When I was on Itunes I noticed you could download books to your PC in the Ibooks format. But it doesn’t mention anything from another server.Yes, you can use another server for .ibooks format. You can also directly email it if your system can take the size.

I can see it in iBooks under the purchased section, but when I Tap on the book, it just brings up the book description and reviews. It's labeled as downloaded. Where do I go to read it?

Right-click in the book layout window and select save as pdf. Any pdf should import directly to iBooks.

At the moment no, it's not possible to gift an ibook. You could give the person a gift card instead and recommend that they buy that book with it.

Apple does not offer the option to gift individual books at this time. However, you can always send an iTunes Gift or an iTunes Gift Card to the recipient:

is it possible to load more dictionaries to ibooks? French, german and so on? I have books in severl languages and it would be easirer to use a built in dictionary like the one it already has.
At the moment no - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4059 says :
iBooks allows you to look up the definition of words using a built-in English or Japanese language dictionary
So it looks like just the two languages are currently supported -
