I've got to agree with Allan. It sounds like the hard drive is corrupt at least. It's possible it might be physically failing. Without backups, it's possible your data is already gone. You need a professional to help you.
If you do not have an Apple Store near you or simply don't have the time to spare, there are some things you can try, but you must understand that it's possible these things could make the chances of recovering your data worse than they already are. Perform the instructions to follow at your own risk!
First, you can try repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility. If that works, see if you can start up the machine. If you can, the very first thing you need to do is back up any data you don't want to lose. You may still need to take other steps, as your system may be damaged as well, but getting the data is the important part.
If Disk Utility cannot repair the problems, you can try DiskWarrior. It can repair problems that Disk Utility cannot. However, it also increases the risk of destroying your data if it fails. If it works and you can start up the machine, do the same as I advised for following success with Disk Utility.
If repairs (with either) were successful, but the machine still won't start up, you can try reinstalling the system. Hold down command-R at startup and then just install right on top of the existing system. If all goes well, you'll be able to start up afterwards and can get your data backed up. If all goes badly, it'll further decrease the chances of getting your data back.
If neither can repair the damage, you're in bad shape. You will need a professional to help you, unless you are willing to lose all your data.

FireFox hangs up for a long time on most pages and sometimes never loads them. This is new phenomenon. What can I do to resolve this issue?

I attempt to open up a site. Firefox hangs for a 20-30 seconds on most sites and sometimes never opens the page, despite leaving it open for a long, long time. I find that if I go up to the address bar and hit "enter" on the page I'm trying to go to that most of the time I can then load the page after a couple of tries. This is obviously annoying and never used to happen. I'm looking for a fix. Thanks!

I had done that already. I brought it down to 30, which was recommended in another thread.
For most sites, Firefox works fine. But some of the primary sites I use for work hang up for long periods of time and frequently never load. I've tested the same sites with other browsers and they load quickly, so it is a Firefox issue.

Google chat will not load nor will the graphics on all the web pages but it works ok in other browsers, what can I do to fix this?

utube vids play but the (pics) graphics do not load on any web page I go to and my google chat says it can't connect to internet but my internet works fine and google chrome works fine too. and google mail graphic buttons for email are not appearing also.

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains.
*Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the hidden Menu bar.
Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images
*Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
*If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.
Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

I have followed the instructions exactly according to Apple for making phone calls from my Macbook Air. Im signed in to iCloud on both devices. Im on the same wifi network. Wifi calls is turned off on my iPhone. Any suggestions?

Missing iMovie HD tracks in GarageBand 3: what can be done?

I have a 20 min. project in IMovie HD that utilizes camcorder video, narration and musical tracks derived from ITunes. When I shared the project with GarageBand 3 (wishing to elevate the volume in certain places of the camcorder soundtrack -- having boosted it to the max in IMovie HD but still found it hard to make out the words) the project appeared to lose its music track. That is, NO music at all could be heard.
I WAS able in GarageBand to boost the camcorder sound satisfactorily but without the music I could not go forward and burn a DVD.
Not sure what caused this to happen...
Can GarageBand import multiple soundtracks from iMovie HD?
I have gone as far as I can with sountrack editing in IMovie HD and now wish to add some finishing touches in GarageBand or some other program...

I had the same problem but in my case the music track was purchased music from iTunes music store. This will not export to Garageband. For reasons that are not clear to me, iLife will import purchased music into iMovie but not Garageband. If your music did not have DRM, then I don't know what happened.

Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

What I would call "body" copy is appearing in an unreadable script font on web pages and in emails since upgrading to Firefox 6.0, what can I do to resolve this?

Since upgrading to Firefox 6.0, some copy is appearing in a script font that is really difficult to read. I first noticed it in the body of an email I received, but then saw it on some web sites I was visiting. It also appears when I am typing.
I am on a Mac.

Also, here is what I've done so far to try and troubleshoot it...
I checked other browsers on my computer and it's not happening, I went through and checked for corrupt fonts on my computer, I double checked my font settings in Firefox prefs, I did a google search and attempted all the things I saw listed as potential fixes and nothing is working.
