HT4060 Battery drains with iPad powered  off

Hello,
Battery drains even with ipad 2 powered off. And batterys since i use IO7 drains a lot faster even in airplane mode etc, etc.
What can you tell me?
Alejandro

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Full Battery Drain Overnight while Powered Off. -Defective Unit or?

I bought a new iPod Classic 80gb over the weekend and had charged it the same day via the included USB cable... Powered it off in the evening before going to bed by holding the play/pause button until the screen went black and I wake up the next morning to find that the battery is completely drained and the unit won't power up until its charged again.
Ok, so I figure this might just have been a fluke occurrence and that maybe I did something wrong in turning it off- but the EXACT same thing happened to me again this morning after doing a full charge just the previous night. I powered it off by holding play/pause as soon as it finished charging. Then I get into my car this morning ready to listen to some music on my commute and I get a message saying the battery is completely drained and it needs to be recharged...
How this has happened twice in 4 days I don't know, but hopefully someone may have an idea or might be experiencing the same thing? Am I doing something wrong? I haven't loaded anything other than music onto it and this has happened twice already since I bought it just a few days ago.
There is no video on it whatsoever and the battery has drained from 100% to 0% in a matter of 6 hours, while powered off, on two separate occasions.
I'd hate to think I just wasted $260+ dollars on a dud piece of equipment but if this persists I'll be returning it by week's end as it looks to be defective.

I bought Ipod Nano 2G and have the same problem, Charge 4 hours, then, when I use it , Ipod suddenly restart and the battery drains near to 98% of capacity, or when I power off the nano after use it, next morning or severals hours later, the battery is completly drain, and Ipod doesn't response, just response until I connect to USB port of my Computer or ITrip, and show the "extremely battery low message".
I use my ipod only in my car with my iTrip car, but some times y use it for some Long travels in plane, its works ok, but some days ago ( near to sept. /8 ) start with this failures.
Here some of my Hipotesis, It's may be related with the new software version 1.3.1 ? its install some days ago trought Itunes.
If the problem is the software? some one know if exist some software to downgrade the software from 1.3.1 to older version?
I found some things about this procedure , but only works to 1.2
    Sorry for my inglish.

About all that can be suggested is to use the feedback form and talk to Apple. They have communicated with some users, trying to get more info to find out just what the battery drain is so they can fix it. Unfortunately with the myriad of operating systems, apps and individual tweaks, there could be several combinations of settings that are draining the battery.
My personal suspicion is that it has something to do with iCloud and the wifi syncing. (My ipad, before I changed the setting, was reaching out to find a sync on a regular basis. And it may still be doing so, however I set my iTunes to not automatically open to keep my device from trying to sync several times in an evening...not to mention the constant aggravation of iTunes opening regularly)
That said, I could be wrong and it could be an app that users have in common, or several apps.

  • Upgrade to OS4.1 causes fast battery drain with WiFi on

I've just upgraded the software on my 3G Pod to 4.1, only to find that it has led to a much quicker battery drain with the WiFi on. Is there a fix for this or can I revert to the previous OS?

    Owen Glyndwr wrote:
Thanks llaass, but the discussion that you direct me to does not really address the issue of why a very recent upgrade should make such a significant difference. I had already realised that turning off WiFi makes a difference. Perhaps my question should have been addressed to Apple, since it appears that it is their so called 'upgrade' that has led to a deterioration.
I'm using iOS 4.1 on my iPod Touch 3 gen with no battery drain problem. This suggests that there is another factor at play which must be present to provoke this problem between the iPod and iOS (i.e., a specific App, a router type, or ?).

  • Am I the only one experiencing battery drain with the 6.1.3 upgrade?  It went from 100% to 63% in 7 hours WITH NO USE!

Am I the only one experiencing battery drain with the 6.1.3 upgrade?  It went from 100% to 63% in 7 hours WITH NO USE!  I've had worse luck with the i5 than the i4.  This is the first time I regret being in a two year contract.  I might add that this is my 3rd i5

So now 12 days later and another replacement I'm still having issues and apple still isn't helping. My phone has started shutting off unexpectedly again today. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here?

  • Battery drain with 2 Push accounts Mobile Me and Microsoft exchange:

One might ask why I need two. Well, I started with a Microsoft Exchange account,, and now am trying Mobile Me. For now they are both being pushed to me. Do I get extra drain from having 2 accounts? I wonder if I get twice the drainage with 2 instead of 1 account. I had done a restore from backup when I got my new 3GS,, and didn't notice too much drain, but thought I could do better, so I restored a fresh 3.0 firmware, without a backup,, funny thing is, that I thought I would enhance battery life. So far, it seems worse than my restore from backup . All that work, with little improvement to show for it

You are going to get more battery drain with the 2 push accounts. Try removing the Exchange account for one day and see what happens to the battery life.

  • Iphone 4S battery drain with iOS 5.0.1

I am experiencing just about the same battery drain with the iOS update as I did before.
I was wondering how many of you had the battery drain problem, updates to iOS 5.0.1 and had that actually solve your battery problem.

I have IPhone 4 and I updated the IOS to version 5. After the update the battery lasts about a day. After the update to 5.0.1 the battery lasts a day and a half. It is an improvement, but not as I expected.
The next step is to disable configuration options like:
    - downgrade from 3G network to 2G
    - disable Data services
    - disable automatic clock
    - disable location services
    - use the phone only as a phone and nothing else.
I will come back to tell how much the battery lasts.
PS: the IPhone 4 is new so there is no problem with the battery itself.

  • X220 Battery charge drains when completely powered off

The original 6 cell battery charge drains when my X220 (i7 2640) is completely powered off or hibernates. When the battery is detached no charge is lost. When I disable WOL and Always-On USB, the charge lost decreases. Is this a common issue or do I face a hardware malfunction?

The fingerprint reader will drain a fair amount of power waiting for a swipe while the system is off (unless you have this option disabled).

  • Severe battery drain with iOS 8.1.2

I am having severe battery drain issues with iOS 8.1.2 with all my iOS devices (iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPad Mini Retina, iPad Air). I can have my device in DND mode overnight with 100% battery, then the following morning I will wake up to find my device down to 20%. The battery usage graph shows nothing abnormal, just very rapid battery drain. What gives?! I saw a couple other threads mentioning this issue. I have attempted Network Reset and verifying Bluetooth is off, but this is just crazy. Anyone else get a resolution on this or experience this after iOS 8.1.2?

tldr; Check the secd process on your Mac. If it is consuming greater than 50MB of memory...turn off Keychain sync on ALL your devices.
    The Full Story
The last few months I've had instances where my iPhone would start getting really hot in my pocket, and the battery would drain at 3x the speed. After much research I also discovered that a process on my Mac (secd) had a vicious memory leak and that single process was consuming 13GB of memory and paging thousands of console messages. After discovering that the process was related to Keychain sync, I disabled keychain sync across all 5 of my devices. Immediately, the battery life on my iPhone was restored to normal.
After I reenabled Keychain sync across all my devices, everything would run fine for a while, but after a few weeks, the problem would resurface. And I would repeat the process of turning it off on all my devices, to effectively reset the iCloud keychain data.
Anyway, Apple does need to fix this, as it affects performance on both OSX and iOS.

  • Battery drain in ipad 2 since iOS 8.1.1 update

I recently updated my iPad 2 and iPhone 4s to the new iOS 8.1.1. Have noticed a significant reduction in battery life on my iPad ever since. I have turned off bluetooth, all notifications, reduced brightness. I've pretty much turned off all that I can to save my battery life. When I checked usage, the biggest usage factor is Safari at over 50%. The rest of the apps are marginal in usage. Went into Safari and unchecked a bunch of options. Any other suggestions?  At this point, I'm regretting doing the update. I've also noticed lag on certain websites and dislike the new way Safari is presented. I use to be able to just x out of all screen. Now I have to click the double box and swipe left to get a blank screen. The favorites bar on the side is always there too.  One last thing, my bar at the top minimizes when I'm on a web page and I have to click on it to get the option to go back, print, forward, etc.
thanks in advance, from a very untech savey person

    Hi Jaberboss
I did start a similar thread on this issue myself, but seeing what I've read here I hope you're ok with me adding it here to
This one is a true case of a phone with zero potentail (electrically)
OK, I've done the rounds on this one, whereby I'm just adding to the list of complaints so that (hopefully) the powers that be, or not, in my phones case, might listen.
Since updating my just over 12 month old 5s to 8.1.2, it has turned into a bag of spanners in respect of its battery life. Its literally gone from 24 or so hours between charges to less than 8 !!
I have tried shutting all the apps down and even had it sitting in full airplane mode, where i've left it alone with the screen off, yet its dropping around 1% every 3 to 4 minutes, blinding!! Checked battery usage in settings after 30 minutes, guess what standby 29 minutes usage 1 minute.
Also tried the full restore, but to no avail, still a bag of spanners!
(slight update here)  Even took the SIM out with it in airplane mode and deleted all apps and a full reboot - same thing!
Does anyone remember the good old days of a fixed land line, where the phone had to be plugged into the wall before you could actually use it? lol
Nothing like a bit of retro ay, but some how I cant see this one catching on Mr Apple. Thanks

  • 4S battery drain - I've turned off everything - almost

So, to start off, I've turned all locations and most notifications OFF.
I have my emails on manual fetch, and I do not have an exchange account on my 4s.
The battery drains about 1% every minute when I'm at work, and it can become very warm when I have it on. I attributed these to the phone constantly searching for 3G in the area.
At home, I put the phone on wifi and charge it fully every night before i go to bed, but every morning i wake up with more than 12% battery drainage.
I called Apple Support, the advisor told me it might have been all the apps running in the background, so I retested with all apps closed. To be on the safe side, I also turned off wifi and 3G, so basically only the phone service was on overnight. But the next morning I wake up to find about 6-8% drainage.
This is not normal, as i have two other 4s in the household, and their battery life is way better than mine.
Just now, I put the phone on airplane mode and took a snap shot of the usage data, and locked the phone (all apps in background closed), 15 minutes later, I checked on it, it's 1% drain, standby time showed the difference in between, but the usage time increased by 5 minutes!!!! WTH??????
I've tried everything I've came across reading threads here and in Macrumors, but nothing helps. Did I miss something somewhere??
I really want to go to an Apple Store to exchange, but the last advisor I spoke with made it sound like there is no easy way just to go in and exchange, that they must do more test, blah blah blah....
And the big problem now is that I heard Apple stores already have refurbished ones. If I am able to exchange after all, any possibility that they will give me a new phone instead of a refurbished???
    Thanks all!

    zioweb,
Well I am completely sympathetic with your disappointment in the batter life of your phone.
There are a couple of things you may be dealing with one is just the normal relatively short battery capabilities of the iPhone and second is many people have had phones that appear to have a malfunction that depletes the battery at an alarmingly fast rate.
You might want to take it to a service center and have it checked out.
Also - you are not the only person that has become disenchanted with smart phone battery life. I don't think it is coincidental that Motorola came out with the Razor MAXX that has a 3300 ma/hr battery and is advertising it as the only smart phone that will give you a couple of days use and the option to leave your charger at home on an overnight business trip. I personally would have one but they only make it for Verizon (I am ATT) and I don't like Verizon... but I am having second thoughts about my allegiance to ATT and the under powered iPhone.

  • Battery drain with High CPU (v6.0 Bundle 3049) due to module net.rim.io.impl

    Hi,
I upgraded my Torch (9800) a week ago, and have been noticiing battery drain issues.  The problem is NOT persistent, but is happening most of the times though.  I am currently on OS v6.0 bundle 3049 (v6.0.0.706, platforn 6.6.0.246).  My Wifi and Bluetooth are always OFF.  Only using the Bell network, for which I have all the 5 bars available.
I have investigated further, and I found that the Blackberry System Software was the one running with the highest CPU - usually in the high 70s, to even high 90s.  And this was consistent over hours, until the battery was dead.  I have since removed any apps I suspecpected - such as Nice Office and LinkedIn.  But the problem still persists.
Battery pull has been done multiple times, as well as I have checked, and there are are no OS updates available.
Now, currently, only the basic apps are loaded (Alt-Back) : Home, Messages, BBM, Phone, Borwser.  All other apps are closed or exited.
Investigating further into the modules within the BB System Software, I have found that the net_rim_io_impl, is the one consuming ALL of the CPU.  I am not sure where/what this module does - so I am unclear on what service within the BB I can turn OFF to get rid of the issue.
Please see the following screen shots, the CPU for the System drops a bit, as Options uses up some, else, it goes back to 90s, if left alone :-
And within the BB System Software :-
Please assist and guide, with either a fix to the module, or else, via some workaround, wherein some service can be stopped or some setting can be changed to avoid this battery drain.
    Thanks!

  • A fix that works for your battery drain with iOS 8.2

After I updated my iPhone 4s to the new iOS 8.2 I found my battery life had become terrible.  I could barely make it through an 8 hour day at work before my phone would die.  It was so bad that I had to get myself a second charger to plug it in during the day.  Even then, if I used the phone at all, it would still lose its charge while plugged in.
Before this update, my phone would easily last through the day and would not need to be plugged in before I went to bed.  Even at midnight when I'd go to rest for the night, my phone was never below 70% and most times it would still be well above 80% but not so with iOS 8.2  So here is a fix I found on another forum somewhere.  I was desperate so I tried it and low and behold, it worked great.
    Here goes:
Let your phone die completely until it turns off by itself
Plug it in your charger until it comes back on again (around 6% for mine)
Turn it back off using the top button and the slider on the phone
Leave it plugged in for 2 to 3 hours or until you figure it would have reached 100%
Unplug the phone and turn it on
Now reboot your device (turn it off and back on again)
That's it.  This fixed it for me and for many on the forum where this was posted.  My battery life is back to what it was before my update to iOS 8.2.  I have plenty of battery life left when I get home after work.
Try it and pass it on....it works.

Use the Settings app to determine what apps or processes are using your battery the most. Once you know what is causing the battery drain you can take steps to reduce it.
Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage
Wait a few seconds for the device to bring up the list of apps with their battery usage.

  • Resolving battery drain with iOS 5 (not 5.0.1)

    Hi
New iPhone user (first iPhone).  Unlocked 4s 64Gb.  iOS 5  United Kingdom
NOT impressed with battery drain so far and reluctant to "upgrade" to iOS 5.0.1  On standby (most services set to "off") phone has decent life (looking at about a week bofore the battery dies) but as soon as I start using the phone - eg browsing over WiFi, battery drops like a stone (4% in 20 minutes).
I can see lots of folks upgrading to 5.0.1 and doing a full battery drain, full reset & set-up as a new phone and this seems to resolve some issues.
My question is, does this same technique work with iOS 5??
Hopefully 5.0.2 (or whatever it is called when released next week) will sort this out - otherwise the 4s goes back to store for a refund.
    Any comments gratefully received.
    Cheers
    RB

I have also noticed what appears to be decreased battery life after the upgrade, though not this bad.  Seems many people are noticing problems.
I noticed and changed a couple of settings that seem to have helped.
    - first, fully shut off the phone and then turn it back on - i read online this helped some, immediately after the update.
    - in mail settings, for the icloud account (I dont use this but it was configured by default) check the sync settings . it defaults to push, which takes more power.  you might want to disable push and set to fetch for this and any other accounts you have, for additional power savings
    - in settings, location services, scroll to the bottom and tap system services : All of them are defaulted to on.  I turned off location-based iads and setting time zone since i dont need those. (I also opted out of the diagnostics and usage as part of the setup, but it was set to on in this screen - i left it on for the time)
    - also in settings -- location settings:  check the list of apps and verify that only the ones you want, are enabled
These few settings seem to have improved things

  • IPhone 5 battery drain with OS 8

Incredible battery drain on my iPhone 5 after update.  I've done all the turn-offs, etc.  Still no joy.  100% to 15% with no use in 2 hours.  And when I plug it in, it immediately says I have 50% remaining.
Do I have a bad battery?

    @Donovan207
Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently. The affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.
If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms and meets the eligibility requirements noted below, Apple will replace your iPhone 5 battery, free of charge.
