HT4060 Even though the iPad is not charging, will it still use the USB for operating power?

I was wondering if there is enough power for operating (to conserve battery), even though there is not enough power for charging?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • HT4060 What If my iPad is not charging while I'm using the compatible charger for it?

Please help me, I don't know what to do.

If you are using an Apple charger and not a third-party item, try using a different outlet, try a different charger if you can get one, use a different connecting cable, see that the dock connector port or lightning connector port is clean.  Reboot the iPad by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
If none of that helps, take the iPad and charger to an Apple store genius bar for testing.

After the Apple logo appears, what happens then? Can you hear any sounds or if you tap on the screen, does it seem like apps can open or are you just seeing a black screen? You might have a hardware problem, but you can try restoring the software and see what happens.
Read this in its entirety before you do anything. Make sure you read the sections at the end about using recovery mode.

I'm ipgrading from an iPad1 (os 5.5.1) to a new iPad Air.  I want to still use the original, but want to transfer my iPad 1 stuff to my new iPad.  Do I restore (doesn't that also restore the old os?) or set up as new?
Also, every time I get a new device and transfer stuff from the old, I wind up with no folders.  How can I avoid that this time?
    Thanks in advance!

Make a backup of your old iPAd to itunes or iCloud.
Then restore from that backup when setting up the new iPad Air.
The restore will put your data onto the new iPad.  (The Os will remain at 7).
Folder structure is a little iffy. Since backups don't restore Apps, only data, you would still need to re-download the Apps to the new Air and as such would need to create the folders for them.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.

  • Hi i just got my new ipad today and it was on i don't why but its new and when i plug it into my computer at the top of the ipad says not charging how can i make it charge?

new ipad won't charge but i can download everytthing but the top says not charging and its at 20%

That is perfectly normal with the new iPad. Your USB port does not supply enough power to charge the iPad. This is copied from Apple's web site about the iPad battery.
    Charging Tips
The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
You can read the rest of it here.

  • Can anyone tell me how to scan documents to the icloud, so they will be on the ipad.  My husband is planning on using the ipad for work.

Can anyone tell me how to scan documents to the icloud, so they will be on the ipad?  My husband is planning on using his ipad for business.  I haven't been able to even find anywhere that I could read about scanning documents.

If you scanned the documents - what format did you save them in - pdf? If so, Pages will not open pdf files. you can save a file and export it as a pdf from Pages - but not the other way around.
If you need simply view the documents - you can send them to the iPad via email or DropBox and them open and save them in iBooks. or Adobe Reader. both apps are free. Adobe Reader can use file sharing in iTunes to transfer the files.
If you need to annotate the files - you will need an app like Goodreader - which can use file sharing from iTunes in order to transfer the files as well. GoodReader may work with iCloud now, but you will have to check that out in the App Store.
You can read this to see how to use file sharing. It really is pretty easy to use. You do need to do this with your computer.

Can anyone please help me.  I have had my ipad2 for about 5 months and it has worked fine.  I am now having issues charging it.  I am using the cords that came with it and the outlet that I have used to charge it in the past, but when plugged in it is recconoigzed, but states not charging.  I have made sure all my updates are current and they are.  Does anyone have any suggestions or helful advice that my help.  Thanks in advance.

Are you plugging it into a pc? If so it will not charge the iPad as there is not enough power try the back USB ports, may work.
If it isn't plugged into a pc and plugged into your socket could be faulty socket adapter.

Apples Software Update process is easy enough to do if you were to buy an iPad with iOS 5.1.1 (current) and upgrade to iOS 6.0 when it is released.

I recently downloaded 2 audiobooks on the ipad2.  I synced to the computer.  They show on the computer under books, but cannot find them on ipad..anyone know where I find them?

If you are on iOS 5 then they should be in the Music app under the More button - if there are audiobooks on the iPad then there should be an Audiobooks option under More. If you are on iOS 4 then they should be in the iPod app.
